Yay, friendly navigation. Odd, it didn't "auto" update for me. | 2009-08-18 18:18:00 Author: Unknown User |

that dynamic background of little big planet looks pretty cool! misty we can only hope that it's not a premium theme! firmware 3.00 http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/firmrwae300ps3.jpg | 2009-08-18 18:24:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |

Concurrently with the release of new PS3, system software will be upgraded to version 3.00 on September 1. http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Content/Detail.asp?ReleaseID=4842&NewsAreaID=2 | 2009-08-18 19:52:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
i dont know about this one for starters when you boot up it automaticly goes to psn tab, i like just starting up and start playin games. and the wats new thing, well wats rong with the information board, nutin i tell ya. the new interfaces in the rite corner, personaly it looks bland and dusnt fit well and finnaly all the new icons in each tab just complocates things, they say there making it more simple but there not. uthor than that it looks good | 2009-08-19 02:13:00 Author: solid-snake Posts: 212 |
Sure, don't add better features like voice chat. This update is interesting, but why is it taking so long for In-game voice chat? | 2009-08-19 03:40:00 Author: Ryutei Posts: 244 |
Anyone notice the date on the XMB screen in the demo video? 11/19 !? | 2009-08-19 04:22:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Once again, useless features, no one's gonna go in the whats new section seeing as how it's never anything interesting. I like the animated themes though, hopefully we'll be able to create some like we currently can, the sparkles to the normal theme is nice but who actually uses it? The "quick" button in each of the tabs is also useless and is just taking up space, we can go to the store and click on videos, we're not lazy or braindead. | 2009-08-19 04:33:00 Author: Jack Posts: 999 |
Sure, don't add better features like voice chat. This update is interesting, but why is it taking so long for In-game voice chat? Unlike on the 360, the PS3 does not have dedicated gaming servers for third parties to use. So one could be playing an EA game on an EA server, and a friend might be playing a multiplayer ubisoft game. To get the two talking to the point where they can stream the game data and voice chat without getting too much lag would be quite a sight indeed. It's just not as simple as a few lines of code to fix it. Please note that this is me guessing the situation. I'm not a Sony employee or fully understand the entire problem, but I'm guessing this is a big part of it. Anyone notice the date on the XMB screen in the demo video? 11/19 !? I was even more impressed that it was 7am. The guy presenting looked pretty well awake for that hour! | 2009-08-19 08:54:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
I kind of agree with Snake, although there's a lot that i really like there's a few things that i'd wish they'd leave as normal. For example going to the news at startup, and the ps store shortcuts in the game AND video category. I like a seamless list of games in the game section, i don't want a ps store thing randomly plonked in the middle of it. To be honest i don't want that logo anywhere other than the network category, it's like Sony are pushing it in our faces. On the other hand though i LOVE the new themes, i can actually see myself paying for stuff like that | 2009-08-19 09:17:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I'm disappointed. I was expecting something HUUUUUUUUGE! But that background looked kind of cool. | 2009-08-19 14:21:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
I agree that having the PS Store icons under Games and Movies is really lame, as is it booting to the What's New thing instead of Games. Then again, he did say that games recently played will be there, so maybe it won't make too much a difference... Also, I want that LBP theme... NOW! | 2009-08-19 18:42:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |

Even counting the one last year that gave us in-game XMB? That was the first one I really noticed. | 2009-08-19 21:24:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
Even counting the one last year that gave us in-game XMB? That was the first one I really noticed. I didn't have a ps3 last year | 2009-08-19 21:27:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Well, that makes sense. | 2009-08-19 21:31:00 Author: dandygandy2704 Posts: 1002 |
If anyone's interested... the reason we don't have cross-game voice chat is because of EA. I'm not going to explain it... but go here (http://xrossplatform.com/2009/08/27/ea-preventing-cross-game-voice-chat-in-ps3-firmware-3-0/), and you'll find out everything. | 2009-09-01 02:01:00 Author: alexbull_uk Posts: 1287 |
3.0 is out, downloading now . | 2009-09-01 03:43:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
In my opinion I don't mind the changes in 3.0. I'm almost certain there's a way to change going to the PSNetwork at startup, besides autoplay. | 2009-09-01 03:46:00 Author: crazymario Posts: 657 |
you know, im okay with the update. but i wish you could customize the box color that your psn name is in. the gray kind of hurts my eyes | 2009-09-01 05:34:00 Author: Unreal_Styrofoam Posts: 99 |
OOOh, sweet!! Gotta download it. That dynamic lbp-theme isn't available yet by any chance? | 2009-09-01 06:02:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
I can confirm that the LBP animated theme is available on the NA PSN Store for 2.99 USD -the font is TOO LARGE in 1080p HD -friends list is the ugliest GUI I've seen this year -ticker needs to have a toggle option -reply system needs "copy" function toggle -in game XMB is still slow as hell -What's New page needs an off toggle ( a real one ) update is fail | 2009-09-01 06:14:00 Author: Aurongel Posts: 221 |
I'm downloading now as well. | 2009-09-01 06:20:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Just got it. It's. . meh. I don't really like how the friends list is now, I think it looked much nicer before. @ the moving LBP theme not being free. update is fail I would have to agree. Nothing on it I like, but a few things I don't like. | 2009-09-01 07:24:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |
Downloaded it before going to work. I didn't dissected it but it didn't seem Fail at all. Maybe I don't like the size of the characters but that's all. Then I think that the premium theme for 2,99 is a real steal. | 2009-09-01 09:01:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Oh good, the Premium theme is also out in Europe it seems. Thanks Omega! | 2009-09-01 09:07:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
Not to be a d**k, but I'm starting to think that IF you SIGNED for the water beta AND you BUY the theme, you have some chance more... Sadly for most of the beta stuff of other games it has been in this way. | 2009-09-01 10:01:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Can anyone from the uk with this update please tell me if they have been able to watch live tv using the new bbc iplayer. I can watch it live on the internet but cannot yet find how to do this on the new xmb icon Edit: just realised that the icon from the xmb goes to the internet browser. This is bad as when i try to visit the iplayer from the browser, I cannot watch the bbc channels live Another edit: I have managed to get to the full site by going through the help pages but cannot load the videos, maybe its just my slow internet Cant even listen to the radio live | 2009-09-01 10:09:00 Author: Dhawken Posts: 96 |
You're probably going to have a crazy reason but why not watch live tv on the actual tv channels? | 2009-09-01 11:46:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Lol, crazy reason: Its not connected to a TV, just a monitor. | 2009-09-01 11:50:00 Author: Dhawken Posts: 96 |
Just finished downloading it! Love the sparkles | 2009-09-01 12:22:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
Absolutely hating the way the friend list looks with the update. There's a nice little feature that allows you to copy parts of messages. Now I can finally send my friends complicated links. | 2009-09-01 12:31:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |

I don't believe a word of that. Sony wouldn't prevent itself to make its console user friendly for Electronic Arts. Doesn't make sense. This is terrible D: The only thing i like about this update that i've seen so far is the new sparkles in the background, and the dynamic themes look promising too. I don't like the new ps store icons everywhere, going to the network category on startup, the huge ticker thing us too big and the friends list is an absolute eyesore. Who's idea was it to put huge grey boxes in the friends list?! It wouldn't look too bad if the boxes were at least transparent and a different colour. Just letting ya's know, there's a free Afrika animated theme on the Japan store. Just in case yas don't want to pay for one. I kind of like the update but agree that the Friends list looked better the way it was. Still, it does seem to load a little faster especially when using the in-game XMB. Love the new "What's New" thing and the new icon for the Playstation Store in the Game column. | 2009-09-01 13:26:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |

It says Hakuna Matata on the icon and the is giraffe (or some other animal...) depicted on it. Top section. | 2009-09-01 13:41:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |

The Afrika theme is quite cool. The animated LBP theme isn't out on the Irish store yet. | 2009-09-01 14:32:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
The Afrika theme is quite cool. The animated LBP theme isn't out on the Irish store yet. I don't think it's out on any EU stores, i can't find it on the english one at least. | 2009-09-01 14:38:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
The grey boxes don't actually look bad with the Afrika theme. Clearly what they need is the ability to toggle them on/off. | 2009-09-01 14:52:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
The grey boxes don't actually look bad with the Afrika theme. Clearly what they need is the ability to toggle them on/off. I don't mind the boxes like i said before, but really who's idea was it to make them solid grey xD I think they should make the boxes white and transparent or just get rid of them completly. | 2009-09-01 15:01:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
I think they plan to have premium backgrounds for the grey.. | 2009-09-01 15:12:00 Author: Zac Posts: 165 |
When I got my slim hooked up yesterday I was not prompted for the update but it showed up when I checked manually. Not to thrilled with the appearance overall but the LBP dynamic theme is pretty cool except the chat icon is not changed when you apply this theme. | 2009-09-01 15:50:00 Author: rz22g Posts: 340 |
uhhhhhhh to qwout avgn "wat were they thinking was all this nessisary or were the game desiners just trying to be ***holes" reely though was there any reson to get rid of the information board and the wats new all it is is just more crap on the psn icon(i thought is was 2 much when they added home) oh and the new freinds list.wat the hell theres no need of that its looks tacky and out of place. and the new store icons well my main problem is the video stor icon because we dont evan get that servis hear in canada so wy do i have it now when i press xmb in game the this is super sized like reely reely sony if your lisning please please re rereleas 2.80 and fix 3.0 im not happy | 2009-09-01 17:47:00 Author: solid-snake Posts: 212 |
I like the sparkles - I know "how typically girly" but that's where my love stops so far. I'm having issues with some data corruption since the update and I am not loving the large print and the gray boxes..... I may learn to like it but so far meh. | 2009-09-01 17:54:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
The grey boxes don't actually look bad with the Afrika theme. Clearly what they need is the ability to toggle them on/off. Clearly. I was looking for one, couldn't find it. Transparent is way better than a stupid gray box. I don't know what they were thinking. Lets make it so peoples avatars are smaller, the comments are smaller, and everything's sitting on this useless gray bar. Gah, pure crap. Bring on update 3.01 with a way to use the old one. They got it right the first time. | 2009-09-01 18:28:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |
This thread makes me chuckle. The XMB is pretty much the worst GUI ever, it was awful before the update and it's equally bad now. I can't even believe this is a significant issue to anyone. The update is a complete non-event IMO. Except if you've experienced data loss, that's understandable . | 2009-09-01 18:33:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
This thread makes me chuckle. The XMB is pretty much the worst GUI ever, it was awful before the update and it's equally bad now. . I really liked the XMB, i think it's the next best thing to OS's like windows I still like it now it's just they'd made it look really cluttered and inconsistent. | 2009-09-01 18:36:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
This thread makes me chuckle. The XMB is pretty much the worst GUI ever, it was awful before the update and it's equally bad now. What?! It wasn't bad at all, better than 360's with their stupid sims people avatars. Now it just has a ugly assortment of friends. Everything else is fine. | 2009-09-01 18:38:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |
I'm having issues with some data corruption since the update and I am not loving the large print and the gray boxes..... I may learn to like it but so far meh. I'm a little worried about even throwing my copy of LBP in because of this post in another thread. Anyone else have this happen to them yet? yeah i downloaded it too and it like destroyed my LBP data!!!! It like reverted it back to all the stuff I had a year ago...all the costumes, all the levels on my moon (yes, that means the ones i was working on were deleted!!!!!) and all of the trophies i had earned are no longer there, as well as all the levels id aced.... WHAT THE @$#% HAPPENED???? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! | 2009-09-01 19:09:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |

I think Sony should allow us to change the colour of our boxes in the friends list, and the box should show trophy information, making it look more like a portable ID | 2009-09-01 19:14:00 Author: Entity Posts: 274 |

Ylod.......... Just Yellow....... Are you being serious or joking? If you are joking, IT'S NOT FUNNY. You can't keep crying wolf or whatever you are crying, you did it in the water beta thread and just caused some confusion. People are really having issues with this and others really need to know exactly what problems there are with this firmware update and I for one want to see what potential problems can possibly come from installing this. Did your PS3 display one yellow light after installing this update, or are you just trying to be funny/annoying/disruptive? If so, I'm sorry that's happened to you, but from all the issues people have reported so far, your's is a first. Also, to the quote from a person who said the update reverted their LittleBigPlanet settings to how they were a year ago, they are either lying or exaggerating because LittleBigPlanet hasn't been out for a year yet. | 2009-09-01 20:53:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

I've not seen this (thank god) but which of the normal colored lights goes yellow with this failure? I believe the right (second) light does. http://www.ps3news.com/modules/image_upload/plugins/thumb.php?img=img_11819.jpg&w=500&h=400 | 2009-09-01 21:36:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
When I start up light is green, 2 seconds in light turns yellow and PS3 shuts down. So in my case, not a lie. | 2009-09-01 21:48:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
Well Yeah.... What better way to get current PS3 owners to buy the new Slim? Destroy your current system with a firmware update. Its just genious Joking of course. I hope the sytems have problems can be recovered. I have not had any issue with my Slim but I have not played anything yet for a significant amount of time, other that watching Disneys Earth. Zwollie... Try this. Might help, might not. With PS3 off, hold finger on power button and leave it until you hear the second beep. Usually takes about 5 seconds. You may already know this. Worth a try though. | 2009-09-01 22:30:00 Author: rz22g Posts: 340 |
When I start up light is green, 2 seconds in light turns yellow and PS3 shuts down. So in my case, not a lie. That's not good at all. I'm sorry for your loss. In all seriousness (with a little optimism), maybe Sony will release a statement or something that will help address the current issues and possibly a fix. It could very well have been a terrible coincidence in timing, meaning your PS3 was on the way out anyway. It seems similar to the 2.40 fiasco though. | 2009-09-01 22:46:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
... This update is horrible >_<. It seems like all it does is now you can get to the store more :/ and make it ugly ;o. And the few good features promised aren't here, and the avatars will probably be payed for <_> | 2009-09-01 23:00:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

I warned you in your other thread. Regardless, it really is terrible that it happened, but if it helps, you aren't the only one. Unfortunately the warning isn't much help because it's an update that's forced on us. We have to install it to use the PS3, it's not like we can choose not to. | 2009-09-01 23:12:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Unfortunately the warning isn't much help because it's an update that's forced on us. We have to install it to use the PS3, it's not like we can choose not to. My post in the other thread actually outlined how to avoid it until the problems were smoothed over: I would actually hold off downloading it if possible, sign out of PSN or shut off the PS3s internet capabilities until all of the issues that people are reporting get sorted out. | 2009-09-01 23:21:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

i only have a wimpy little 256mb one that i just use to put school files on to take homework to and from school. That should be enough for the save files. | 2009-09-02 00:34:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
LBP save is < 5MB. Most games are even smaller than that. Also remember you can still play games offline without getting the update. Yes, back in my day we played all our games offline, it's crazy I know, but it is possible Seriously though, if you are worried and haven't upgraded yet, then just make sure you do a full backup off anything before trying it. And if you are really worried, then just don't go online for the next couple of days and see if Sony put out an announcement. Also remember that a lot of people aren't experiencing problems (doesn't diminish from those that are, I know) | 2009-09-02 00:45:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Also remember that a lot of people aren't experiencing problems (doesn't diminish from those that are, I know) It seems a lot worse than it actually is because people don't generally post about how everything is going smoothly, so it's basically a thread full of the issues people are having, and reading it makes it seem like everyone is having the problem. It doesn't change the fact there is a severe problem though. | 2009-09-02 00:59:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Oh crap. I just installed this update before going on the internet and reading this terrible stuff. | 2009-09-02 01:41:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |

Oh God ... I haven't downloaded yet but I'd hate to restart my game for the THIRD TIME. | 2009-09-02 02:29:00 Author: TheMarvelousHat Posts: 542 |
This is just like the NXE for Xbox; Anticipated, and when you recieve it, it's unwanted, unnessacary, ruins games, and it's a new way for the Game Devs to cram products down your thorat. | 2009-09-02 02:46:00 Author: TheMarvelousHat Posts: 542 |
I am so glad I didn't update my PS3 before when my husband asked me to. I'm going to go downstairs and take it offline RIGHT NOW! | 2009-09-02 03:01:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Simply backup your data, update, and move along. If the LBP data wipes, you have your backup which you can copy from. It should work, theoretically. | 2009-09-02 04:19:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
So is it wise to update the firmware now..... or should I just wait till Sony trys and do something about this? I really don't want the PS3 to break down on me.... When i was updating my PS3, my internet disconnected about 3 times, so i just gave up updating.... was this a Omen? | 2009-09-02 05:11:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |
well, i took your advice and attempted to put my save file on the flash drive. mission accomplished. >_> i hope. idk if i did it right, but im not too worried. my ps3 hasnt crashed yet. | 2009-09-02 05:27:00 Author: gofurr360z Posts: 886 |
Unfortunately the warning isn't much help because it's an update that's forced on us. We have to install it to use the PS3, it's not like we can choose not to. True, but it is not an auto-update. So you have the opportunity to go back up your data before you go perform the update. Simply backup your data, update, and move along. If the LBP data wipes, you have your backup which you can copy from. It should work, theoretically.This. I did not have any trouble with the upgrade (though I agree with everyone on the ugliness of the new Friends section - but that's for a different thread). But just in case, I plugged in my USB thumb drive and backed up all my game data before I accepted the new download/install. | 2009-09-02 05:27:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Well, as BSprague said, not everyone is experiencing issues with it. I just downloaded and installed it, and it all looks great. Well, all but the new Friends section - y'all were right about that... it is nuttin' but ugly! | 2009-09-02 05:33:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |

Well, all but the new Friends section - y'all were right about that... it is nuttin' but ugly! i hate it so much. the gray boxes just seems out of place to me. i dont even want to see who's online, or read new messages anymore. they need to give you the option of changing the background, that gray bg is nasty lookin. actually, completely getting rid of it would be better. | 2009-09-02 05:38:00 Author: gofurr360z Posts: 886 |

Go tell Sony in their PlayStation Blog. No joke. They're always listening to the consumer, even if they tend to mess up from time to time. Also, merged the thread that was hanging about General Chat with this one (firmware 3.00). | 2009-09-02 06:22:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |

I didn't had any problem with LBP, or Batman...the games I played yesterday. I can cope with the friend's list...yeah it's not that great but you guys are complaining really too much about it...it's not the end of the world. What I really don't like is the Playstation Store shortcuts in every section, and the lack of a preset of animated free themes. Those are the problems for me. | 2009-09-02 07:00:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Hate the grey boxes thing , clogging up a screen with grey doesn't make sense to me. Also what are the bad things that happen, just losing save data? I can live with that if it's happened. | 2009-09-02 07:28:00 Author: Shermzor Posts: 1330 |

That's all i gotta say about 3.00 | 2009-09-02 14:10:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |

i haven't had any problems yet. It didn't fix my "half-corrupted" save. But yeah the grey friends BG is annoying. I do love the Dynamic LBP theme. Worth $3 IMO. But i was hoping for more avatars. I WANT A SACKBOY AVATAR!!! (oh well maybe tomorrow) | 2009-09-03 01:48:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
