Voodoo is a complete copy of Flaming Timberlands!

Archive: 37 posts

Am I the only one who thinks that this level is a direct copy of Flaming Timberlands by jackofcourse?

Anyway I left a comment on the level saying the exact same thing and today I find a comment on my oldest level (Tunnel up!) saying:
"Your level are complete trash u n00b. Don't make me **** you ****. Suck my **** little n00b!

if you're going to accuse someone in public of copying I would think you should expect one or two comments directed at you. I haven't seen the level so I can't comment on that, but 'copying' is quite the allegation in the LBP community.2009-08-18 13:57:00

Worst thing to do.

If hes a idiot to say that comment, then hes going to good grief that.

Just delet it, ferget it, never say anything.

This level is absolutely horrible and an obvious attempt to copy the FT levels, I remember playing it a few weeks back and thinking "what garbage is this"??2009-08-19 04:28:00

he could possibly be copying directly but if he is its clear that jackofcourse created the original... if he were to copy a really obscure level, that was good then wed be none the wiser and then accuse the original creator of being the copier, im not saying he was the original creator im just saying be careful what you say... for all we know he could have never even played FT2009-08-19 16:18:00

I played this level last night and I really couldn't say its a direct copy. Granted, i haven't played flaming timberland in a while now but from what I can remember all they have in common is similar materials and the same music.

Its definitely not as polished as one of jackofcourses but it wasn't a bad level either.

Is there certain areas in this that are direct copies?

Wow I've only just seen this thread. So I went to play the level. I looked at the pictures while it was loading and thought hmmm, it's a little the same but I wouldn't say a copy.

Then it started and I flew across the scoreboard in a lift...I lol'd. (I guess he missed the part where that's actually the same scoreboard you finish on haha)

As it started I thought hmm it doesn't looks too similar apart from that bit...

Then I got to some of the gameplay...wow, there's so many parts that have just been totally ripped off. The game play is definitely the one area that's been copied. (Considering he used the exact same materials as I used in FT too that is quite impressive!)

I didn't count them but there is so so many contraptions and ideas that I used in FT2 that are in it. Quite amusing really.

Oh and he definitely has played FT2 because he's got it hearted there was never any doubt that he had played it though tbh, there's too many things that are exactly the same.

The levels pretty good tbh, he has some creating ability, shame all the ideas are stolen.

Just a note: If anyone is planning on playing them back to back. It's FT2 that has been copied not FT1

After playing this level today, it does seem to be a direct copy of the Flaming Timberland levels. The starting sequence is nearly the same as the one in FT2, the visual style is almost the same, the music is the same (although that isn't REALLY copying) and much of the gameplay elements are taken from FT2.

It's actually quite impressive though that the creator was able to copy off the FT series. I sure know I couldn't make a copy of FT2.

Okay I've just played FT2 and then this back to back to show my friend how much he's copied...and playing them back to back myself has actually left me bemused. There's things in there that even I didn't notice was copied until I played them next to each other.

There's atleast 12 sections that he's copied...there's only like 17 sections in FT2.

I'm not that bothered because it's not like it's stole any of its thunder of anything. Still a little bit sad though, it's not like he doesn't have any creating ability, it's actually a decent level...it's just all my ideas that he's used!

Well... I played FT 1, 2 and Voodoo. Voodoo is indeed sort of a rip-off but if you have seen that "Good, bad and evil" rip-off (don't really bother to remember the name) you don't really care about this one... It was just...geez....

EDIT: Oh yeah... it was Imagination Factory >= (

He recreated it but in the exact way the original level as made apparently. I haven't played any of the levels but this is what the creator of flaming timberlands said:

I thought reloading was more like Ka-chick.... anyway....

With all due respect. It's not like Voodoo is getting as much hearts or plays as Flaming Timberlands.
The creator may not have copied the level to gain fame or get lots of hearts and plays, maybe he made it because he respected Jackofcourse?
Or just one of those crazy fans that follow you around all day long and have this little shrine in the corner of the room.....

Anyway before jumping to conclusions and everyone piling ontop of the creator (searching for him in the forums and shooting him with a cat... or what ever you wanna do) I think it's fair to first see his side of the story too.

Also, seeing as jack is aware of this, maybe let him approach the creator first if that is what he wants to do, or at least ask him first before you start some kind of hate campaign against some kid in jackofcourse's name

I agree. I just hate those comments that say "You copied Blah blah! You perv!!"
Rather than that, I think it's much better just to tell the creator about the level and have him/her deal with it.

Yeah I definitely don't want everyone attacking him. There's no doubt he's copied a lot of the ideas and contraptions out of FT2 but there's no harm been done really. Sure it's a bit annoying, but he could be a really young kid and everyone attacking him when he's just joined the forum (if he has) isn't the way forward.

I'm sure if he has joined then eventually we'll get a reason as to why he did it. Sometimes copying things other people do can just be about seeing whether you're able to do it too. In all honestly, I don't actually think that's the case here though, as if you look at the first post and what he said when someone accused of copying, it wasn't the most gracious of replies. That being said, lets not start a witch hunt just yet.
