I was going through a bad spot last week. Sorry I deleted them. I'll repost them. I have severely low self esteem, especially about my singing. In high school, my "best friend" told me that my voice was horrible and i should just stop trying. I didn't sing for like two years after that... so... yeah, I've gotten better, but I'm still a bit wary of posting this stuff. But here they are again...

The Frug and Christmas Panic are the only ones that don't have mistakes. lol.

Music is art, and well, you know better than most of the people here, is an expression of your self.
And it's a cathartic way to let your feelings come out, and people shouldn't worry about what you do.
If you don't like a form of art, whatever it is, you don't support it, but you don't bash it just or the sake of it.
Everyone has the ability to sing, some may have a pleasant tone, some other less, it's just a matter of getting the right notes, and apply a little of technique, everyone can do it, with just a little exercise, and your confidence and self esteem will grow while you will meet your targets
I was forced to record the vocals for the demo of my band since we fired the singer during the record session, I wrote the lyric, the melodic lines, but I never sang, except for the Church choir LOL
I sounded like a beaten dog, and at the time I smoke 2 box of cigarettes every day, but then the situation forced me to take responsibility towards the other guys, to start making exercise, smoking less, take care o my voice, to focus on the breathing techniques, and even to start learning to play the guitar and sing at the same time.
And I did improve a lot.
Still, I don't have a good voice but I get the notes.

So, you will improve as long as you want to spend time on your voice, you will get better for sure, while your friend is a dushbag and can't change that.

So I just learned about this thread... Swan asked me to put my video in here. I have a few videos on youtube, but this is my favorite. It's from November of 2009:

I'm glad you reposted your songs, kappa. One, because they are good, and two, because you should hear people tell you how good they are.

You shouldn't worry about posting your stuff here, I know some of those music share sites can be pretty brutal, but that's just because they are choked up with a bunch of haters that think it's funny to down-rate and flame with out even listening to a particular track. The people who look at this thread are interested in hearing each other play music.
All the trolls seem to skip this thread. Either that, or they save it for other threads.

The Frug and Christmas Panic are the only ones that don't have mistakes. lol.
You know, I end up keeping at least 75% of my mistakes because they add flavor. Mistakes can be a good thing.

Also, Don't think that just because you are playing to a "Warm room" here, that we are blowing sunshine at you. If we say we like it, we like it.
We seem to like it.

@ Powershifter Wohooo! So glad you made it to the party!

Thanks. ^__^ I forget this is lbpcentral sometimes. People here are nice. I've been to a lot of forums that.. well... weren't. I hope to record some more songs at some point, but I mess up a lot when I'm recording the guitar. That's always the hardest part for me. I play an entire song and then screw up right at the end when I realize I played the whole song without screwing up! LOL.2010-06-11 22:17:00

So, finally, thanks to swan, I managed to upload 2 songs from my former band, it's stuff that has already more than 10 years, it was supponed to be a preproduction for the album, recorded in May 2000 even if the label "tricked" us and released it as the proper album in 2002 after a lot of prolems
I wrote the stuff (music & lyrics), did the background vocals, played the lead guitar except the first part of the solo of the 2nd song and a lead in the first.
And yeah, I didn't drunk, I wasn't under drugs nor mushrooms while writing the lyrics, I was only very young.
I wrote the second song when I was 16...so there's a lot of ingenuity...
I didn't named the songs for privacy reasons, though you maybe can figure out the titles anyway...

I made a song in GarageBand a while back that I'm quite pleased of. I'm putting it into a video now, so you can have a listen!

In your second song/video, The opening reminds me of The Mentalist (one of my favourite programs!! ) with the definitions. (Well, the old Mentalist opening)

EDIT: Here it is. It's still processing, so the quality will improve. There's no video though, just the title and the music...

@DayneOram: I really liked it; I wouldn't have known it was made in garageband if you didn't say so. I thought I heard some loops in there however; normally I wouldn't recommend that, since the piano is the only instrument in this song, but that's just me. Maybe there wasn't any and I'm just insane.

@OmegaSlayer: Now I see why you were complaining that our music was too happy Good job though

@Kappa: I read a great saying off a bathroom wall once; that all art will turn out bad if you worry whether it will be good or not. You have a great voice, so my advice would be to keep practicing and not worry about what people will think of it And make them solely for yourself, if it's what you like to do.

@Powershifter: Awesome; now you can summon a flying motorcycle with your mustache and ride to the heavens after performing that awesome drum solo.

SEXY CLOUDS

Now that i've got your attention; http://soundcloud.com/dominc-parker/sexy-clouds

It's inspired by some contemporary dance I went to see at a theatre the other week which was by a spanish group and their work was heavily inspired by the work of french painter rene magritte. (I have to assure you i'm not *** haha, it was an idea from my oldest bro and it was actually really good)

Basically the song is some electro prog with tempo changes, time sig and key changes galore whilst being non-agressive.

It's quite relaxing when it gets going

@ Asbestos - I liked that! I loved all the time signature changes. I have a couple questions though: Did you speed up the tempo twice on purpose? (I'm sure you did) Also, are the drums from a drum machine, or did you do that yourself? Either way, the drums have a nice sound to them throughout - really clear and warm.2010-06-17 18:58:00

Ahh thanks a lot guys, and yeah the tempo changes were intentional.

I used EZdrummer for my drum samples, lol, no way am I that good at drums...I mean I can play simple stuff but this was much nicer. I programmed all the drums too, am quite proud that I managed to create something listenable in all those funky time signatures!

While I think programming drums can be very cool, there is a part of me that feels sad. It's almost as if we drummers aren't needed anymore *sniff* Speaking of which, have any of you ever wondered which is better, the man or the machine drummer? I would argue the man. Here's why:

Have you guys ever heard of the program Mario Paint Composer? It's basically a revamped version of the music creation tool in the SNES game Mario Paint, allowing sharps, flats, 5 notes per line and faster tempos. It's a blast to play with, free to download here (http://www.unfungames.com/mariopaint/)

Here's a recent video I made, a recreation of the J-E-N-O-V-A boss battle music from Final Fantasy 7

You've struck a balance between digital and almost classical sounding. The quality sounds not so good but I like it as a song.

Now, I'm not comparing you to anyone else in this current post, when it comes to composing classical music, you're absolutely amazing for someone who isn't, as far as I know, in the mainstream industry, however, I think you might have overdone the reverb on this one. It's highly possible that I'm being really stupid right now, and in that case I don't mean to offend you at all, as a matter of fact it's certain that this post is going to come with a certain amount of stpuidity, but I honestly think you kinda overdid the reverb. At least as I'm listening to it through headphones now, I think you overdid the reverb. Looking at the song from a strictly compositional standpoint, it's very good, however, the reverb on this song honestly sounds overdone. I know I've repeated that around 3 times now but it's an honest opinion.

Hahaha, coming from someone who never had that game and never played FF7, the most I can say is that it sounds good for an SNES music creator.

Anyway, I know no one will probably listen to these, just like my other posts, but here goes.

I made two ambient pieces for a game I'm making with RPG Maker XP called Generica, parodying the common RPG cliches, and here are the songs I've made for it so far...

A much slower, sadder ambient piece.

LOOK!

IdK if this will help all you great composers in this thread but you can actually submit your music to Last FM

You pick your artist name and Albums if you really want. i tried using it before and uploading was pretty quick.
And another optional thing is to get payed for having your music listened to, because Last FM puts ads every now and then inbetween music, or you could chose to not get any money for publishing your songs.
Its really cool you can put your songs up for download (For Free, or money but im guessing all of you will make free downloads)
It shows how much plays total your music has got to, you guys should try it out.

If you need help finding the exact place to start out just ask me i will find the link again for you.

As you suggested me to do, here is my house mix!
House is very popular here in Miami and from time to time, I get to play some! This particular mix is about a year old and was made using 2 CDJ-1000. This mix has more of a techy feel to it and its aimed at those Afterhours parties that I've come to love. Hope you guys like it!

All I really use FL for is to put effects on my guitar tracks and make drum beats and bass lines, then I'm done. Not so sure how Reason would enhance my music unless I strictly made DnB or something.

Nice one Swan! Cool song and video! Although, now I want to know what the speech bubble says D: lol

Also, Awesomemans, I like Ballad of Willmasarusamasanasasdlkjfla;skdfnkjasdbfjhkeagryj ewgr it's kinda calming but moody. And I like how you develop it, keeping it interesting. You should try maybe putting a compressor on your final mix - there's just some 'spikes' in the sound which a compressor should fix, especially near the end.

I've been working on a bunch of compositions over the summer, then realized last night I should really get something finished and on YouTube already! So I decided to just start and finish a new piece last night!
So, about 6 hours of work Just supposed to be something relatively simple and epic.

A new power is rising. This is the critical hour, as it takes control.

Great talent, and the tools to back it up! It's a little scary, hilight. Like I said before, Stewart Copland, and Danny Elfman, had better look out for their jobs with you around.

"Hour of Ascension" is great with the timpani and taiko drum madness happening all over the place! The horn clusters remind me of something I can't quite put a finger on...Beatles? Not sure. I like it a lot though. Makes me want to go out and sprint through the mist and rain in full armor and red cape. Since I live in down-town San Diego that might be a problem, So, I guess I'll just hit "play" again instead.

@ Awesomans: I Don't know how I managed to miss the latest chapter of Bulrog. I love the Ballad of Willmasauramasan! it just keeps getting better and better! I'd love to have a read-along kind of text-and-picture thing to go with your bulrog tunes! I'd definately read a Bulrog comic!

First off, I've enjoyed all the music I've listened to in this thread. Clearly each and everyone of you enjoy music to be doing this, and that's a great thing to see.

@highlightnotes Your work is absolutely amazing. I'm sure you've said it in the thread (and I probably read it too, my memory just doesn't click this morning), what program do you use for your work? It seems to be very powerful whatever it is, and that Diamond kit really does it justice. I've really wanted to get into some original compositions myself, but I've been stuck writing arrangements for my school's marching band since I got the stuff I'm using.

Which brings me to what I would like to share. It's nothing very fantastic, since as I said I'm stuck writing arrangements at the moment, but I thought I would share some. Few things I would like to point out about them:

Sound quality is not fantastic. Working on getting a high quality soundset for Finale, but being on a budget leaves me with the basic features for now.
Word Up does not have full percussion parts, because the drumline in the band I'm writing for has a mind of their own and wouldn't play the parts even if I did write them, so why waste my time. Simply has parts at the beginning cause I didn't take them out.
Final Countdown has percussion parts, written by a friend of mine I met at a competition, and while we use the same composition program my computer, for some reason, decided to botch them up and hide every note that had a roll/buzz/etc. on it, so the drum parts sound choppy.

With all that self-discouragement out of the way though, here are two of the songs I've arranged for our band. Maybe I can post some original compositions later.

Word Up (http://hsp.teamofx.us/Word%20Up.mp3)
Final Countdown (http://hsp.teamofx.us/Final%20Countdown.mp3)

.... and actually, now that I think, I do have one piano piece I wrote. Still has the "amazing" quality of the two above, but it is an original. (I have actually played it, too, just don't have an actual recording to share yet.) The full song has lyrics, but I'll hold off one those until I can actually get together with my friend and record.

welcome to the show, ironmalley! I loves me some band scores with the quad toms rolling, but even more, I like a good piano ballad like "Nobodies" I can't wait to here it with lyrics. I think you should get in touch with FenderJT and/or Xkappax , and shoot them a copy of of the lyrics. I have the voice of a frog on Valium, but those girls have got serious pipes on them.
Again, welcome to thread!

Thanks for the kind comments swan and ironmalley

I'm using Logic Pro 8 for everything right now. 'Tis a good program! (Although kinda crashy sometimes.. :S)

The Final Countdown arrangement was fun! I'd like to play that in a marching band!
I also liked the piano piece, and like swan said, I'd love to hear it with the lyrics! I hope you and your friend can record soon

I'm kinda bummed cause this morning I discovered my harddrive with alllllll my samples crashed - the files seem to have just disappeared D: I should have a backup, but the backup harddrive is a bit finicky also (I know, stupid). I'm going to have to stick the harddrive into a PC (internally) and then transfer the files over to my Mac. So yea... hoping very much that it works okay :S

Man! I'm sorry to hear about your hard drive! There seems to be a bit of that going around. This last week my Sound card went bad and did a number on my computer in the process. happily, though no permenant damage to the machine, and I just happened to have a spare card lying around for just such an occasion.
The bad news...I stupidly wiped my C drive before I realized that it was strictly a hardware issue. lol. I've been reinstalling crap for the last week! lol

Here's hoping your back-up drive comes through!

Ironmalley's "Nobodies" (sound Lift)

Loving it with that kit swan, really gives me a feel for what I actually meant for the song to sound like when I wrote it. Thanks again, really and honestly. I enjoy writing Piano compositions far more than full pieces, have a few others I need to polish up that I might share.

@ironmalley
nice; despite the shortage of resources it turned out great. Looking forward to more

@hilightnotes
I can see that in a high-budget action Hollywood film that takes place in the medieval era. Great job

I read in some book that aphex twin said that only he could make his kind of music. irritated and insulted, i twisted some knobs and came out with this little tune here.
Walt Acid (http://soundcloud.com/voodeedoo/walt-acid)

Mind the mistakes; I got tired of hearing the synth so I didn't fix it lol

i'm trying to get his fast paced stuff down so i made this demo ^^

I'm very happy to report everything transferred perfectly from my back-up! Actually, before this restoration, a few of my samples had been screwing up and not loading, and now they appear to all be working so far. So I'm a happy camper

More importantly, I've got another composition to share! But this time, I scored it to video Check out the most epic tennis match you'll ever see:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19ysoJddc08
Music and sound effects composed by me, video filmed and directed by Royce Choi

I actually had this 90% finished about a month ago, but my iMac couldn't handle the processing power required to play the music, and so I was stuck near the end with my sounds not playing, unable to hear anything I was composing. So I put it all on hold until finally I now have my new Macbook Pro set-up It actually still was cutting out a bit, but it was better. And at least with this Macboook I can upgrade the RAM further past 4GB, so I might do that.. That should solve the problem (until I have even more processor intensive sounds at least lol).

..If you just want to give the piece a listen without the video, here's the piece by itself.

Holy crow! that's true - epic! I love how the first contact is in perfect sync with the music!
Absolutely out-standing! you never cease to amaze!
Also, I'm overjoyed to hear that your back-up came through!

I have half a mind to get in touch with leathermonkeys to see about getting a shot-for-shot machinima version! lol

Haha that would be pretty cool!

Thanks Yea I was really nervous there for a while. Basically the only back-up I had was on a hard-drive that the USB connection was broken or something :O so we had to open up an old PC of ours and stick it in as an internal hard-drive. Kinda nerve-wracking, but it worked out! The harddrive that crashed must have been screwed up all along, because like I said some of the samples didn't work, and also I couldn't properly copy all the files to another harddrive, which is why I didn't have a better back-up. Of course when I got everything back online, the first thing I did was make a more reliable backup - which worked this time
EDIT: haha reading it over, this paragraph ^ seems really confusing xD either that, or I'm just really tired. Or both

Anyways, really, thanks for all the support from you guys I'm glad you like my work. It can sometimes be a little worrying when I really stop and think about the fact that I'm planning to make film scoring my career haha. So yea, it's really nice for me when I hear that people are enjoying my music - it encourages me to keep at it!

I'm currently working on a piece that'll hopefully be a nice break from my last couple 'epic' pieces. Not that I don't looove epicness xD but the main piece I'm working on now is lighter and I'm focusing a lot on really tight orchestration so that it could really be played by an orchestra (whereas other pieces of mine would need a bunch of re-working for it to be played by a real orchestra). So yeah, I'm trying to get as much music done in my last couple weeks before I leave for my first year of music school so hopefully I'll have the new one done in the next week or so!

Finally do have time to write some original compositions, and I wanted to try one I've had stuck in my head for quite sometime. The ideal of a dreamscape, not a place you see in your dreams, but rather the one place that you've always imagined. A place that you create, control, and make everything you wish. For each their own, but it is always majestic in some form for the eyes of the beholder.

I've not fully finished the song, but I thought I would share a snippet seeing as this is my first full original arrangement. This is just the first 36 measures or so, and is supposed to be the growing beauty as the dreamscape forms itself around you. That is reflected in the music literally by the repeating 8 measure pattern, which is built upon by adding other counter-melodies and such each time it loops around. You can also hear part of the first transition before it fades.

I think I got a little better sound with the reverb and then playing with it in Audacity, but it's still limited.

GHAAAAAH! "to be continued" right after those six woodwind notes that promise a really interesting transition! you're a sadist, my friend.

That's really nice! I'm looking forward to hearing more of it.

Had you posted that earlier I would have told you you'll just have to wait... but since I'm doing this in movements, you can have the rest of the 1st. Still may add/remove/tweak it, but you can get the full movement in what it is now. (And no, it doesn't stop that abruptly. I just didn't want to tease you again with a snippet of the second movement.)

Or you can just click the link up there in the other post, they're the same really.

Another little sample, should have this one complete really quick. Was thrown on the spot to write the closer to our show because the person who usually writes for us still doesn't have it done (our first game is this Friday), so I have to get it done and done quick. Won't tell you what it is, I'm sure someone can guess. (Besides, it's titled so.)

Has no dynamics or such yet, I always do those last.

Alas, I've finally had an epiphany I feel is proper for the 2nd Movement of Dreamscape. It's still in it's very early stages, but I do have a small sample to share. I added an optional crossover at the end of the 1st movement with flutes to tie both movements together, and it is included in the sample if you listen carefully. The idea of this is indulgence. You've created this world with the deepest recesses of your mind, to the point that you don't even know what all you have created! As you explore the world and indulge yourself in the details and fancies you have designed, you are overwhelmed by the joy it brings you. This is reflected in the upbeat rhythm kept by the 1st flutes as well as the chord progressions made with the oboes and trumpets. A victorious, proud feeling is undertoned by the viola and violin throughout the song as well.

No Dynamics yet as always with most of my samples, and I'm not sure that I don't want to add a few more parts to it.

On a side note, I won't post the full copy of the sample I recently posted for the marching show the band I am in will be performing this year per request of my director, so you'll just have to take what ya' got.

@NinjaMicWZ

I like the direction and mood of the song, however I feel that there needs to be more change in it to give it a sense of direction. Those beats are maaaaad dope, but maybe some EQ tweaking and lowering about -12.5dB @ about 2900Hz could give the kick more roundness and UMF if you knawmsayin. The vocals are flawless, and it balances out well with the instrumentals [they don't overdo each other]. Looking forward to more!

i agree, the quality was really bad... it was just my little cousin beat boxing into cool edit, and me being a moron in the background to try and distract him... he couldn't contain the laugh and had to cut it short. fission mailed. i tried to eq it a little, but whatever.

he was just visiting otherwise i'd have him do more.

Here are two songs I made [not sure if I've posted them yet] while trying to get technical EQ'ing down. Making music's been different for me now :O

By the way, I wanted to show you all some guides I found to getting a good mix. You don't have to follow it exactly, but you can experiment, depending on what you're aiming for. They really make the biggest difference

Thanks, Aspestos and Morgana. I used to really like Master Shake, But then I discovered "The Alchemist" from the Venture Brothers, who is voiced by the same actor. He's Soo much funnier as the alchemist, although he doesn't appear nearly as often.

My Musical Duck and I (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/391294)
Recently I can't seem to get away from swing beats, and causing my gear to make quacking sounds. The quacking is because I finally got my head wrapped around formant ( or tuned / Comb) filters. They can be used for making vowel-like sounds, if you have your math right (or just get lucky while arbitrarily turning knobs). I don't know what the swing timing is about.

Mars, Bringer of Baked Goodies (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/393959)
Normally, I try to steer well clear of covering anything that has already been covered by Keith Emerson, of Emerson, lake, and Palmer, Since It's Futile to try to improve on that kind of mastery (a person could loose a finger trying to play his stuff). But I woke up after having a strange dream about attending a get-together, and who should show up, but Mars. I was so amused by the Idea that I made this to represent my new view of the god of war.

You Can't Stop me (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/393960)
So, I took some of the extra notes I've been saving in my spare note Jar, and poured them into a sequencer with echo. Then I found some clips I'd recorded from old movies because I thought they were funny, and then spent the next few (embarrassing length of time) Indulging my whims, and developing new music tools like the Sneezing Laser Sequencer, the NyaNyaNya synth, and the Kung Foo Theater Vocal effect.
I Think This is going to my new catch phrase when playing LBP - "You...Caaaaaant ...Stop Mehhhhhh!"

Fantastic self love (http://theaudioportal.com/portal/listen/707)
When playing music, there's a sort-of temporary intimacy I feel with the other musicians. The only other human connection that feels like it to me is during romance, and all that ensues during it. I normally can't "tickle myself" while doing a solo thing where It's just me and my machines, but from bar one, this had that feel. This tune sounds familiar to me. I Don't know if it is, or if it's just the result of hours of intense concentration sans-sleep I put into this.
