Cheeky Switch Stickers On Level's

Archive: 13 posts

What i have found out on some levels. People have created Switch Stickers for there level's, So they can get all the points and become first. I have found this out on loads of levels. And it is anoying. Because i became 2nd on a level with 100 views. And 1st place was the publisher with double points that me. Lol. Reply back if you have found out this.2009-08-16 20:40:00

I always do the opposite and try not to be first in my own levels. It ruins it for everyone else otherwise.2009-08-16 20:51:00

I do the opposite, as well. I like to see who's been playing my levels. I also try to add a significant amout of bubbles every time I republish to keep the leader-board in flux.2009-08-16 21:07:00

I don't really give a ****! I usually get the highest score I can just to show the player how many points you can actually get, so they replay to try and top or match it! Ingenious, I tell you...Genius!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!2009-08-16 21:45:00

I think that's kind of annoying for some players. What I do when I first publish the level is play through it and get a reasonably high score, to set as a sort of beggining challenge to the players who want to do that.2009-08-16 23:34:00

Yeah some people do it and it's a bit strange to be honest.

What I usually do is leave it a couple of weeks and then attempt the top score on my levels. I do try and set the bubbles out in well placed areas so that if you want the top score that's a game in itself getting the combos etc.

My Industrial Assistance level when I tried to get the top score on that last week, I didn't even get close. Although it is a two player only level and I was doing it on my own, so that could have something to do with it...

My new level Tribal Ruins, someone has got a very good top score in that too. They've managed to get one combo that no one else has managed to string together to grab #1.

I'm very prudent with score bubbles can consider where they're placed a great deal so I know what will work well and what won't when it comes to combos.

I've got a whole section about them and how they can add replay value in my Creating thread over in tutorials

There is nothing impressive about being top of your own scoreboard. You know where the secrets are, you know exactly how and when to jump to get the combos and you know all the hazards inside out. I posted a moderate score on mine, around 45-50% of the max score I think. I want people to beat that score. Sadly, Only 1 person has actually managed to, but it's early days yet.2009-08-17 00:20:00

How did you get past the first room, never mind everything else?

On-topic: I think it's just sad that people are so competitive/uncompetitive (depending on how you look at it) that they actually have to rig a game so they come out on top.

this. i like to let players know that its possible to get a higher score to try to goad them into achieving it. i would never try to totally dominate my own scoreboard though. but for example dynamic park the level i am working on.
max score without finding the big secret is a few 1000 but with the secret its much higher. getting a score thats more than possible without the secret but not near max hints players something is up maybe?

you know, some of these would go good on the "one piece of advice to other creators" thread.

a couple of times after publishing a level, I was playing it, and got a higher score than I really wanted.
luckily, someone beat it, and I started monitoring the scores and occasionally sending out "ARRgh! you beat me at my own game!" type messages.
After receiving one of those, I've noticed that those players tend to come back to sort-of guard their king-O-the hill status.

I admit to doing this on one of my levels.

Except in mine its not just points its just a different adventure, including a trip to the moon (That just happens to have 1,000,000 points-worth in bubbles) XD

I have to republish the level anyways, it was attack by spammers with bad tags and ratings.

Ill just republish it and remove that part XD

Point bubbles are great when used properly. look at Jaeyden's level, Tye Dye. My FAVOURITE LBP level. Ever.

All it is, is a simple platformer, with funky visuals, and INSANE combo potential. It is awesome.

As for scores on your own levels... I don't cheat, but, I try to keep the top score.... Guilty as charged

I had #2 on one of my levels and I wondered if the person with the #1 score really had done a perfect run. I should have let that score stand, but I couldn't help myself because I wasn't even sure it was possible.

That LBP player wasn't one of my friends whom I had shown the level, so it was something else that someone would have bothered to learn the level well enough to beat my original #1 score. It took me several tries over the course of a week to retake first place, but I think now that it was a mistake.

I don't like letting the scores inflate each time I re-publish, though, and it seems better to just delete the level and re-publish if the scoring changes.
