Card Quest 2 Ideas

Archive: 7 posts

Some of you may have played my first level, Card Quest I: The Road Trip.

I am currently working on a sequel Card Quest II: The Escape (working title). However, this is not what this thread is about. This thread is to discuss another idea for the Card Quest series. This single level will be a sequel to the entire Card Quest series so far and will be named Card Quest 2: The Finishing.

I have planned out the story so here it is:

The ancients speak of a brave explorer
(next two lines are spoilers so won't say)
The tales of his adventures in the Land of Cardboard are legend.
This legend...
Is true...

Soon after the adventurer's departure from the land,
The very earth began to change.
From card to stone, from paper to wood.
And all because the hero left the quest unfinished.
Soon nothing remained of the land as he knew it.
And no one remains to know what became of it.

Now a new hero must finish the quest before the land is lost forever.
That hero...
Is you...

So that's the basic story.
The level obviously is story driven, however you will not be forces to do the story. It is very focused on exploration. And you will be able to change between the new land, The Kingdom of Drac and the old land, The Land of Card. Since the kingdom is built on top of the old land, you will have to explore and find caves and such which give a passage to the old land which is underground.

If you're really smart you'll be able to see that the landscape of Drac is moulded upon the cardland's buildings and mountains.

I do have a few issues which I hope you can help me with.

1. Thermo
The thermometer didn't really have an effect in the original card quest but now since there will be stone etc I'm a bit worried. Bear in mind it has to all be in one level to make sense.

2. Do you like the idea? I was heavily inspired by Zelda. Especially Wind Waker (as Zelda fans will know, there is a land under the sea. Which is similar to my land underground.)

3. If you have played the original, what changes would you like to see in terms of visuals?

Thanks guys!

1. Thermo is only a problem if you use too many materials/objects. Limit yourself to about 5 or 6 materials and you should be alright.
2. It sounds like a great idea. Though I'm confused as to this Card Quest 2, Card Quest II business. Is the former a spinoff and the latter a follow up to the first Card Quest level?
3. Adding in a bit of colour to buildings would be good.

Yeah Card Quest 2 the one this thread is about is a spin off, do you think I should change the name to make less confusing?

Maybe just Card Quest: The Finishing
without the two

PS. Card Quest II is the follow up to the only one out now.

Yeah, I'd think it'd be better to leave the 2 out of this one to avoid confusion for when the sequel is published.2009-08-17 12:18:00
