How do you put gas through material?

I can't figure out how to put gas into material so when you fall on that material you die! Anyone know how?2009-08-16 03:07:00

Um... you can just put a block inside the 1 material, then turn it into gas.2009-08-16 03:13:00

Just make a very thin strip of material and turn it to gas. Alternatively, take a material, make it as small as possible, draw a very long, straight line, and then select it, and turn it a little bit and shrink it down until it becomes invisible. Turn that into gas, and then cut off the edges if it is too long.2009-08-16 03:17:00

Another way is to put material through gas, rather than gas through material.

Make a block of any material and turn it into gas. Make another block of material in another spot. Select the second block and move it into the gas.

Tried it already, it stays where it is and tries to get glued to the gas...

What you have to do is not create the gas and material in the same location.

For example;

Create your material first. Place it down on the ground.

Now go away from that material, create a block of gas (or whatever) and now place the gas away from the material.

Select the gas, and drag it into the material. It won't glue itself to the material.

Rembembering to turn off grid mode when moving the gas. Stupiest stupidest interface ever

Does grid mode really make a difference? I move objects all of the time in grid mode, it just gets tedious if it's a long distance, in which case I set it to large grid.

You can't move gas through other objects in grid mode. My guess: different collision detection algorithm. Nongrid uses in-game collision detection and grid mode uses something different, gas movement was probably an oversight in the grid mode algo - I can't see why it would be a deliberate design choice.2009-08-16 11:39:00

If you place the gas in the world and then put it in the spot of the material the two should blend together, making you die when you touch it...I think.2009-08-16 16:36:00

As you can see this is what he's probably talking about, in fig 1. there's a brown block which is the material, then the green is the gas which is inside the block.
Is this what you're talking about?

What I do, which has always worked, is to make the gas and material seperately, and then to turn off grid mode. Then select the gas and move it where you want in the material. Then, instead of pressing x to put it there, press circle. Easy! 2009-08-16 17:23:00

That picture wouldn't kill you, so it's most likely not what he was talking about.

turn off grids.

Make a block the size you want. copy it. turn one of the blocks you just made into gas.
Put that gas in the place you want. Put something beneath the gas( i.e. a small line of metal) Now take you 2nd block make it a just a tiny bit smaller, and put it above the gas. Close you popit, and voila you block will fall right in to the gas.

And now when you fall down/touch that block you will die. (since you gas block is bigger then you material block, and so will touch the gas first)
