Archive: 22 posts

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to take gamers as close to war as they?ll ever want to get. In a shooter that recreates the brutal reality of the modern combat experience in stunning detail, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will challenge players to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of modern warfare in a new contemporary theatre.

Players will experience the intensity, diversity and claustrophobia of a present day conflict from the unique perspectives of an infantry marine and a Special Forces officer, each engaged against the full force of the Chinese PLA on the huge open-world island of Skira. Gameplay simulates an immense conflict between advanced forces and provides unparalleled scope with different military disciplines, vehicles and equipment for players to utilise.

? The most realistic modern military shooter: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will deliver the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year, with a huge variety of equipment, weapons and tactics available. Authentic cutting-edge weaponry is simulated with detailed ballistic physics and players will command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. The character damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the lethality of combat.

? Freedom of Play: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will give players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions will task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit's retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics.

? Squad-Based Combat: As an epic single and multi-player campaign weaves the narrative, players will fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armoured assaults, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns and grenade launchers.

? Redefines the Size of Battle: the 220km2 island of Skira gives players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment.

Played the pc version a lot. It's good to know there will be map editors on the consoles too though. You can mod the pc version till you drop. A friend of mine with a 360 doesn't like this so I'll probably get it on PS3.2009-08-16 18:06:00

I first seen this game in a PS3 Magazine last year!

It looks great & i cant wait for it! Thing is everyone i know is getting MW2 instead...but meh to them!

The online idea sounds good, where a friend can jump into your game at anytime!

I usually ignore games like this because i find realistic shooters really boring

After watching the trailer though it sounds really interesting, i'll probably end up giving it a try once it's released

ArmA 2 seems to be disliked by a few of people mostly because of the ai is annoying.

Maybe this can pick up where Arma failed ? (Well it's still a cool game).

Did anyone else actually buy this? I have it on 360, and it's amazing in Co-Op....

Not for the run n gunners though.... Definitely slower paced than any other game on consoles, and some pretty intense moments aswell.

Was walking through a field in a line formation with 2 of my mates, and one AI squad-mate, and suddenly bullets started whipping through the grass, one of which ricocheted off a rock, into my mates leg. He fell to the ground, and we all had to drop prone, but a base of fire on the area where the shots were coming from, patch up the fallen guy, and then track back to some rocks for cover, before finally taking out the patrol who had shot at us.

And that was just on the way to an objective....

If you like realism (bullet trajectories anyone) this is for you. One of the best co-op games i have played

Just did a mission with 4 guys, at the end we were advancing up a mountain side, with mortars falling all around us, we had to take out the mortar teams before they could take out our tanks. Two of us got blown up, the other 2 caught the objective. Later on i was moving through some rocks, went round a corner, and got hit by a tank shell. My mate saw my head rolling past him... lol2009-10-11 18:23:00

It was quite funny lol.

I was just walking between some rocks, i got to the end of the hill so i could see down, with binoculars out to have a look for men, and suddenly i was dead lol.

Well I went the other way and bought Arma 2 instead. Can't really compare because I haven't played flashpoint but wow Arma is awesome!

I've managed to recreate the CoD4 ghille mission really easily + I've made it so you come in by plane and parachute into a field to begin your infiltration, all authentic like.

What's the mission editor like in flashpoint?

There isn't an editor on consoles, so i couldn't say. but i hear it's quite good on PC....

I'm hoping for free DLC from the best edited missions....

Oh I thought consoles had it

I imagine they can easily churn out dlc and missions for consoles then if they don't have the editor.
