Castlevania: Curse of SaculaNosada_Kage
An all new original Castlevania adventure!
all
I spent a lot of time with this one. I created an all new Castlevania! There is a secret Hydro Storm feature that I worked in for the Boss fights. There are three levels in total that collectively form "Castlevania: Curse of Sacula". I hope everyone enjoys it!

Hello,

I only had time to play the first level of the series, but I liked what I saw so far. I am a pretty big castlevania fan, so I was happy to see a lot of this stuff pan out. I really liked how you went all SOTN with the level design so that you could just spend time exploring. I also liked the variety of enemies you included (love the chair and table enemy, too funny!).

One thing that I think would really improve this would be some sound effects. I don't mind that the enemies themselves do not make noise (but it would be nice) but I think it would really help if you made them make a noise when they died. Also, there is one zombie like enemy (the bad guys near the platoforms floating above green gas) that you can see the emitters on. I also noticed tha tyou could see the piston on the plant enemy. You should definitely make these invisible to make the enemies look a little better.

Other than that I really enjoyed your level. I can't wait until I have some time to play them all.

P.S - I love that you didn't use infinite life checkpoint everywhere, keeps the action more exciting if I know I really have to try.

As far as the F4F thing goes, I would really appreciate it if you gave my new level "The Adventures of the Prince: Chapter 1 The Attack" a try. The link to my thread is found by clicking my signature.

I started on it last year actually but it got the failed to load bug so I deleted it. It's a shame too because it was coming along nicely. I had Olrox Quarters done, an awesome Puppet Sword boss fight, inverted castle, and many other neat things. I made a weapon system where you grab the ground and it throws out axes, knives, or swords. Each of which did varying amounts of damage to enemies. There was also a health bar for yourself, you could take up to 8 hits before enemy attacks would kill you, and you could rest at a save point to refill your health and even find a secret powerup to raise the meter to 12. I had plans for a secret Demon Card which would summon a familiar that could help you in battles. Had an idea for a experience system where the demon gets stronger by killing and starts throwing fire, ice, and thunder spears. Visuals were drastically improved from the first part. I found that instead of decorating the background with various materials and decorations I could just take a picture of a highly detailed background and place that on a bare wall. That way there is alot of detail without raising the thermo.

I was also making a Galamoth boss fight in another level because there is no way he could fit in the main level. Used a pic of him online to recreate him in great detail in LBP. He had 3 attacks and I was working on adding a couple more. Of course he would be very tough and the level would be locked so players would have to find the key in the main level as well as all the various powerups(stickers for switches) needed to defeat him. This too got the failed to load bug so it's deleted as well.

So basically after having a month's worth of work go down the tube I lost interest and there won't be a part 2.

I had plans for experience system but never made it. Actually fairly simple really. There is a vertical meter of sorts fill with square blocks and each enemy is attached to one block, stronger enemies have larger blocks, hence they give more experience. When that enemy dies it's block dies too and the meter is lowered. At the top of the pile of blocks is a key switch. The lower the key switch gets the more experience the demon gets and unlocked stronger attacks.

Health bar was alot trickier. All enemy weapons had a player sensor attached to them and were set to one-time. They were linked to an emitter that would emit a paintball everytime a sensor went off. So for each "hit" from an enemy weapon a paintball shot off. The paintballs hit a square block of dissolve with a paintball switch attached and well as a key switch. I had the paintball switch set to 8 and once it hit it's max and dissolved then the key switch would be dissolved too. Once that key switch was gone then all enemy weapons were "active". What that means is that there is also an emitter on all weapons that emitted gas and these emitters were only turned on once that key switch was gone. So now instead of getting hit and having a paintball hit your meter you die instead from the gas.

The system is really more of a shield, once it's gone, the next hit will kill you.

stuff broke in the levels today, but i fixed it. i have emitters that emit paint and it's supposed to hit the creature brain to kill it when it's triggered by the paint switch. but anyway, sometimes the paintballs stop working. they don't kill the creature brain. then i have to go in and redo the emitters. anybody know what i mean?2009-08-22 05:00:00

Just happened to notice your other post and thought I would stop by and give you a few tips on your F4F process. Change this to an F4F thread first off!

Second... post some pics of your level. Really helps get folks excited to see a level with some pics. Another great tip is to go look and do a review on others levels that have the F4F option turned on.

..as far as your question, a post as well as searching the help section could be handy as most don't dig this far to answer questions unless there are already a few subscribed to this thread. Just just a thought though..

Do you have the total number on the emitter set at infinite? If it is simply a large number, then yeah.. you end up chasing your tail and may have to have a different bit of logic to manage it all.

Good luck!!

Just take a few pics while playing your level, export them to HDD. Pull them over to your PC via a usb drive. Upload them to flicker or some free hosting site and by using the Insert Image tool (or simply use the tags) insert the link where the pic is located. I would edit your original post and insert the pics on that one.

Again, you should check out utilizing F4F as you can get quite a bit more feedback utilizing that system. Especially if you play and leave good feedback on other F4F levels. There is a ton of great info on the process located as stickies at the top of the Level Showcase section. Good luck!
