a wider camera angel

Archive: 21 posts

I often find myself wishing for this. I hate having to down size objects & such so that they may fit in the camera frame. Is it safe to say we all need this.2009-08-14 08:21:00

You could just place cameras throughout your level and zoom all the way out. 2009-08-14 09:05:00

Lol, it certainly won't. Yeah I can see the use for this. Obviously it's another thing that could be used badly, but sometimes it would be useful. All the downsides of it come down to level design issues, so it wouldn't cause any problems, and we already have it in create mode...2009-08-14 09:30:00

I would also like a camera angel, with several Kodaks on its wings...

No but seriously, I think widescreen would be great. Maybe as an optional feature?

I have had so many experiences where I wanted to pull the camera out just a little more than what was allowed. Im pretty sure they made it this way to avoid lag. Its a bit of a bummer that good creators have to suffer restrictions put in place to keep the worst creators from screwing things up in a level.2009-08-14 10:25:00

It only ready is in widescreen format. Any wider and you need a new TV.

Unless you want a fish-eye camera.

@Wex, I'm sure it is about lag, but managing lag is one of those level design issues anyway, which can be experienced with even a samll camera zone. I suppose there has to be a limit somewhere (or does there - I can't count the number of times I wanted to zoom out to view the entire playing area in create mode, to find stuff quicker)2009-08-14 10:39:00

I would think it's about lag, but you can pull the camera out 10x more in Create Mode. If we can view that much of the playing field in Create Mode, why not allow us to with the Camera object? I would have needed this very badly originally for my LittleBigBattleship level, but I eventually worked around it. I can't think of anything else to do other than try to fit everything you need into the allotted zoom field we have now. Also, setting player tracking to 0 will make it zoom out slightly farther than if it was at a number >0.

Yeah but player tracking = 0 sucks balls for gameplay.2009-08-14 12:10:00

Some people can make it work, often in a cinematic sense. But I do agree in the sense that it really just doesn't work for everything, or even most things. If it does come down to squeezing those last few objects around the edges onto the screen, then a zero value for player tracking just might become a viable option.

Yeah I know Most of the time it's unnecessary and does nothing more that get in way of visibility - personal issue with a lot of levels 2009-08-14 12:19:00

Can't you adjust the screen size of LBP in the options menu of the start menu?2009-08-14 22:15:00

my god that would be so helpful, especially for someone like me who makes tanks. It really annoying when you can't see a few inches in front of the tank gun -.- But still, this would be great for tons of things 2009-08-14 22:42:00

You could always be creative, you can put a camera on a peice of cardboard attached to a piston, and you can make the camera move horizontally or vertically; whichever way you want.

It's like the movies.

That's your individual screen. He is talking about the camera in Create Mode, that sets it for Play Mode. Your individual screen settings can be calibrated in the options menu, but that is just to remove the black border or get things back on screen that were previous cut off. It doesn't show you any more of the level than you were seeing before (unless the screen was set too large).

EDIT: I just noticed this is my thousandth post.

It would be so cool if you could pull the camera out the same amount as in create mode, then you can make amazing cutscenes and text and stuff eg i have one level with text in it that you can't see all at one because it is too big, if you shrink it then some of the letters turn invisible an ability to zoom out very far would fix this 2009-08-14 23:34:00

I actually have been using plater trackers to force the camer to exactly where I want it and to give a good view of the terrain ahead, in a way that cannot be achieved with a normal cam. But it still doesn't increase the viewing area.
