Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind Have you read the comics of Nausicca? I ended up reading the comics before I saw the film and ended up very dissapointed. The film cuts out so many characters, places and story threads. If you liked the film I'd highly recommend you pick up the comics to get the full story. But anyway Seven Samurai is my favourite movie. Probably the closest anyone has ever gotten to making a perfect movie. Pacing, characterisation, action, everything is just so well balanced and every frame of every shot has its reason for being there. There's so much directors can learn from this film. Like how it's not how great the stunts or special effects are that make a good action scene but rather how engaging the characters are. The Dark KNight seems to be the only film in recent memory that realises this fact. http://www.lovehkfilm.com/panasia/aj6293/seven_samurai.jpg | 2009-08-14 04:16:00 Author: Sosaku Posts: 146 |

I really want to read them though. I don't know why I liked that movie so much. I even got a ringtone of Nausicaa singing(humming) during the flashback scenes. And even though they left parts out of the movies, it's still better then what they did for the first english release. I'm planning on seeing Ponyo tomorrow with a couple friends | 2009-08-14 05:10:00 Author: Roanoake Posts: 166 |

Requiem for a Dream. I can't bring myself to watch it more than once a year, but it is just incredible. | 2009-08-14 12:12:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Avalon (Mamoru Oshii) An impressive story about virtual reality. But i must admit some of the other mentioned movies are within my top ten (Mulholland drive, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Requiem for a dream). | 2009-08-14 12:13:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |
I can't believe the two films that I would consider to be my favourite of all time have already been mentioned! (Mulholland Drive and Eternal Sunshine) But apart from that, anything by Michel Gondry, Jean Pierre Jeunet, David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Spike Jonze or Wong Kar Wai. I can't narrow it down any more than that! | 2009-08-14 14:47:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |

Raiders of the lost Ark.....I think. | 2009-08-14 15:10:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
However, I have always said, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is a perfect movie! | 2009-08-14 15:13:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Park Chan Wook is awesome. Oldboy is an absolute masterpiece. I was furious there was going to be a hollywood remake and so relieved when it got shelved. Sympathe for Mr. Vengeance and Lady vengance are both excellent. I thought cut was a little weak, but still good and I've yet to see "i'm a Cyborg". | 2009-08-14 15:16:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Visually and stylistically I was blown away by Oldboy, I guess my taste in film is very similar to my taste in LBP levels (i.e. looks above all else). | 2009-08-14 15:20:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |

300 is a very good movie imho (far to be my best however...), but i know a lot of people didn't love it. I think 300 is not a question of screenplay, it is more a question of aesthetic (that people like or not), a visual experience. And finally....THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAA!!! | 2009-08-18 10:00:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |

300 was pretty good, fight scenes were a bit cool but the story was a bit weak same with the acting. | 2009-08-19 22:23:00 Author: creelers Posts: 275 |
My new favourite film is now Pulp Fiction | 2009-08-22 17:48:00 Author: creelers Posts: 275 |
People, the thread is favourite movie, not best movie. I can understand why some would say 300, although I can clearly see (and articulate) its flaws. Likewise, I can understand why some would list e.g. Dirty Dancing as their favorite movie, even though I personally hate it with a passion. As for me, my favourite movie is without a doubt Fight Club. And yes, I would understand those who don't list it amongst their favourites. Then I would seek out their house and do unmentionable things to their kitchen appliances. | 2009-08-24 13:27:00 Author: slutzinc Posts: 124 |
I like 28 days/ weeks later but I can't emember all the films I have ever seen right now. There's probably another one which I've enjoyed more. | 2009-08-25 08:14:00 Author: S-A-S--G-U-N-R Posts: 1606 |

Then I would seek out their house and do unmentionable things to their kitchen appliances. You hit the nail on the head. You haven't lived until you've seen Fight Club... about 50 times. It's called a changeover. The movie goes on and no body in the audience has any idea. | 2009-08-25 17:21:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
I could go on forever with Fight Club quotes, but that would be way too far into off-topic-land. Edit: If you haven't already, I'd really recommend you find the original novel by Chuck Palahniuk. It gives you a greater appreciation of just how faithful Jim Uhls and David Fincher have been with the adaptation whilst making the story their own. And I really do recommend Palahniuk's other works ? he is one of the main reasons for me rediscovering my passion for writing. | 2009-08-25 17:25:00 Author: slutzinc Posts: 124 |
Favorite movie of all time?. . . thats really tough, I failed at picking a definite top 10 in another thread and now you want us to pick 1? I've always been partial to Conan the Barbarian. Its a fairly old film with very little dialogue but i don't know. . . The story and the soundtrack make this film rule. Especially the soundtrack! | 2009-08-25 17:34:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |

Great novel and I've enjoyed a great deal of Palahniuk's other works including Choke, Haunted, Rant, etc. I just can't wait for the Blu-ray due out later this year. | 2009-08-25 20:30:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
My favourite Palahniuk book is tied between Choke and Lullaby. Hmm... A "What's your favourite book(s)?" thread could be interesting, but I'm too tired to create one now. Oh, well. You have any idea when the BD version of Fight Club is due, and if there are any new/omitted special features? | 2009-08-25 21:16:00 Author: slutzinc Posts: 124 |
How can anyone say that the story behind 300 was weak.. do you realise this actually happened in 480 BC! If anyone likes this sort of thing, there is also a book by a guy called Valerio Massimo Manfredi, who wrote "Spartan" and is, in part, about this tragic battle.. very good! As for films, Lord of The Rings still stands out clear in my mind. This was a masterpiece in every way by Peter Jackson. Of course, it helps to have been given so much content by Tolkien, but the adapted screenplay, visuals and acting are unsurpassed. That said, I also like some of the historical films, like "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "The Pianist". I must watch "The Boy in Striped Pyjamas" one day, although, after reading the book, I'm not sure I'd handle it! LOL - I must have weird taste! | 2009-08-25 22:03:00 Author: Rhyfelwr Posts: 606 |

You have any idea when the BD version of Fight Club is due, and if there are any new/omitted special features? http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3275 Even though it is still not officially announced, our friends over at The Digital Bits have the scoop on the special features that the Blu-ray of 'Fight Club' will include when it releases on November 17. At first sight, it seems that most if not all of the bonus content present in the two-disc DVD will be on the Blu-ray. Special features will include: Four commentaries: Director David Fincher Fincher and actors Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter Novelist Chuck Palahniuk and screenwriter Jim Uhls Crew (Alex McDowell, Jeff Cronenweth, Michael Kaplan and Kevin Haug) Seven deleted and alternate scenesFeaturettes: A Hit in the Ear: Ren Klyce and the Sound Design of Fight Club Welcome to Fight Club Angel Faces Beating The Crash Tyler's Goodbye Work: Production; Visual Effects; On Location Insomniac Mode viewing option Guys Choice Award Edward Norton interview Music video 12 TV spots Trailers (including the 8 Rules of Fight Club) Promotional and art galleries Internet spots I just want a good reason to upgrade the special edition DVD. I'll still hold onto it just because the packaging is awesome. That said, I'll plunk down my money just as long as this film gets the lossless track and video transfer it deserves on Blu-ray. | 2009-08-27 15:43:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
*drools* I'm with you on buying the Blu-ray just for the uncompressed audio and higher resolution image, but the extras are definately looking good. And you'll have to pry the special edition DVD from my cold, dead hands. An excellent package, and one of few DVDs to really show what the format could give audiences over VHS. | 2009-08-27 15:49:00 Author: slutzinc Posts: 124 |

I'm a big Fight Club fan myself. There was a period after it came out where I began to become really really sick of "Fight Club fans", and it turned me off the movie so much that i pretty much shelved it for YEARS. A little bit like The Matrix, remember that? If you saw it when it first came out, there's a 90% chance that it blew your ****ing mind right out of your skull. Fast forward a year and you probably rolled your eye every time you saw "bullet time" in a movie, or anytime anyone mentioned "The Matrix". Happily, that subsided, and I was able to get away and return to genuine enjoyment of that movie (Fight Club I mean). It's a great example of hyper-stylized filmmaking working FOR the movie in every capacity. It's hard to criticize the movie for being so stylized and breaking the fourth wall, with characters talking directly to the audience and even interacting directly with the "film" celluloid itself, literally at times... because without this stuff, it wouldn't work - it wouldn't tell the story, it would fall flat and lose that exuberance that so strongly suggests "insane" throughout the movie. Some people denigrate it for the ending, but I actually think I prefer the movie's ending to the book's. The book ends on a note of PITCH PITCH black comedy, it's insanely dark and disturbing, while still having that bone dry, cynical-as-hell sense of humor that Palahniuk's so good at. But I don't think that would have been appropriate for the movie, I think Fincher and company made the right choice. | 2009-09-04 03:36:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
My favorite movie is This is Spinal Tap. ^_^ I think the comedy is some of the most brilliant comedic writing I've ever encountered. The stonehenge scene made me literally fall out of my chair and laugh so hard I was crying. No other movie has ever done that to me. Oh god I love that movie. Their ad-libbing is a riot. Christopher Guest especially, he goes so off the wall! Sometimes you can tell that the guys are just a HAIR'S breadth from totally falling out of the scene and cracking up. The special edition's great too because it includes nearly an entire sequel's worth of new content, also full of hilarity. They've never topped it. Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration were all pretty funny, but nothing even remotely approaching Spinal Tap. Remember that Simpsons episode where Bart and Milhouse go to the Spinal Tap show? Instant classic! "We salute you - A half-inflated dog lord!" | 2009-09-04 11:11:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I'm also a fan of A Mighty Wind because I grew up with my parents listening to folk music and dragging me to see Peter Paul and Mary and The Mama's and the Papas (well, not really DRAGGING per se, I enjoyed it!) but I agree that it's not even close to the humor that's present in Spinal Tap. My first memory of watching that movie was on a rainy day at the beach. We thought we had accidentally grabbed a documentary, and then it just got progressively funnier as the movie continued. It's going to be very hard for any other comedy to top that experience for me. I enjoy movies like "The Jerk", and "Clue", but they don't even come CLOSE to spinal tap! | 2009-09-07 17:02:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

I think my favorite 3 comedies are Spinal Tap, Strangelove, and a Chaplin, either Modern Times or The Great Dictator. Both of those movies have achieved the rare disctinction of HURTING me with laughter. When I was a younger man, I keeled over watching Ace Ventura and Austin Powers too - But these movies haven't held onto the comedy as well. They don't age as well. If anyone here hasn't really considered watching Charlie Chaplin movies, allow me to HIGHLY recommend it. Modern Times is a great place to start. There's a lunch-machine scene that will make you CRY it's so funny. The Great Dictator is packed to the rafters with hilarious scenes. Hynkel and Napaloni at the barber shop comes to mind. The early scenes of Chaplin in WWI nearly had me on the floor. | 2009-09-07 22:05:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

I saw the film before I read the book and this was about the only thing that stood out to me as being significantly different from the book. Just watched it again last night with a friend of mine. He had only seen it once before and I think it's safe to say it did a pretty solid number on his head. Hey, Teebonesy; guess what I watched last night? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
