MYSTladylyn1 MYST was first released in 1993 for the PC. It has taken me 2 months to make and I've tried my best to copy the original. MYST is puzzle based and will take about 1 hour to complete straight, although it's the only game on LBP that can also be completed in sections. For hints throughout the level grab the green fabrics and for the entire level walk through see below! Have fun! WARNING SPOILER ALERT! Getting Started: Welcome to MYST. Firstly read all the information given by the numbered fabrics. Go up the stairs and take a left. Go up some more stairs and enter the library. The library is the most important room in MYST, you will notice a red and a blue book either side of a wall with sticker switches on. Grab the red book and read... now collect (grab) the red page to its left and reread the book. You added a page to the red book and consequently the son trapped inside becomes a little clearer! Do the same with the blue book... Now go a little further right you will come across the Tower Rotation Diagram, hold the lever on the floor and the arrow will move, but notice that none of the pictures light up when the arrow passes them... Ok, go right again and pull the lever, this opens the passage to the lift. Go up the lift and have a look about- nothing up here... Back down and close the lift up, grab and read the information given by the green fabric either side of the Tower Rotation Diagram- looks like we need to turn some Marker Switches ON before the Tower is going to help us. Go out of the library and lets start working these puzzles out! The Stoneship Age: Go back down the stairs to the right of the library entrance. Carry walking right until you see a sunken ship. There is a lever to its left, grab the green fabric and read... Its the Marcker Switch for the Sunken Ship! Turn it on and return to the Tower Rotation Diagram in the library. Now grab the fabric until the arrow is pointing at the logo of the ship. It lights up Green! Now, up the lift and lets have a look. To the right shows us which puzzle we are looking at, but the left shows us a clue for the puzzle. Good, lets write down (or take a picture!) of that combination, it will be useful. Now, back to the library entrance. Just left of the library entrance are 6 pillars... Hm, dont 3 of those little pictures look familiar. (Combination is: Spider, Flame, Leaf- turn to the on position). Now the small ship in the central container rises... Hm, how about the bigger ship? Go back to the big ship and jump inside, grab and hold the right page of the book and link to the Stoneship age. The pump to the right is worth investigating, stand on it and different lights flash up. Hm, turn the far right light on... Walk left and you will notice the broken end of a ship and an entrance down, do not take this entrance for it is full of water and you will die, carry on left and you will see a blue and red room below. There is no water in them and so you can go down... Both rooms are quite empty, the red one contains a large picture on the wall whereas the right one has a strange floating object. Both however, contain pages... Collect the red page and then the blue one. You will also notice a white page on the top shelf of the blue room- read this, it looks like the end of an important note (so important infact you will need to write it down)! Back up the stairs and take a left out of the room, you will come across a tower with a flooded basement. Hm, how to get the water out of here? Oh yeah, the pump! Go back to the pump and set it to the left light. Go left and enter the ship's entrance... It gets dark real quick down here and there's also a large black door blocking the path, I think we need a key... Back to the pump and set the central light on. Go left to the tower thats now drained of water and down to the basement, pull the lever and go back up the stairs, grab the fabric that is now there and go up to the higher level. Oh look the key! Grab the key and go back to the pump... Set the left light on and go back down into the ship, the lights are now on and that door has gone... Collect the Stoneship's Island Sticker and return to MYST. You will return to MYST outside of the ship. Take a left and go back up to the library. Read the red and the blue books... The sons have enough pages to speak clearly now! Place that island sticker on the wall between the books. Ok, thats the first of four islands complete! Channelwood Age: Take a left out of the library entrance and keep walking until you find a very tall tree and a hut. Go round the back of the hut (right of the tree) and below the sticker switch is some green fabric, read it... Ok, but to get the clue we need to turn on the Tree's Marker Switch (thats just right of the hut). When its on, return to the library and use the Tower Rotation Diagram to locate the tree, when the green light is on next to the Tree go up the lift and claim your clue. This time it comes in the form of a sticker switch! Ok, back to the Tree and use the sticker, the hut is now open... Turn the round lever and the tree will begin to move, have the lever about half way because we dont want the tree moving too fast! Now enter the tree and come out in the underground passage. Grab the book to the Channelwood age. In the Channelwood age you need to get water flowing to several things to get them to work. First you must go up the stairs and behind the windmill you will find a lever, turn this on and you will hear the water start to flow... Now get those pipes in line! This will send the water to the box and open up the controls to the bridge. Pull the lever inside and the bridge will extend, however the pipes at the centre of the bridge turn and disconect thus stopping water flowing to the lift far left over the bridge! You must go back to the controls flick the lever to the left and make a quick jump across the openning bridge! Then on the otherside there is water still flowing to the lift and you can now enter the lift! Up the lift you will find the sons' old rooms, investigate and collect their pages. You will also have to break the door to the next lift in the red room. Finally, you will find another white page under the bed in the red room. Perhaps this is the first half of the letter we found in the Stoneship age! Write it down its very important! Up the second lift you will find the Channelwood island sticker and the linking book back to MYST. Back in Myst make your way back to the library, read the red and the blue book and place your Channelwood island sticker on the wall between them... Half way there! The Selenitic Age: Out of the library entrance, go right passed the ship... Far right you will come to a spaceship that is closed. Turn the Marker Switch ON and return to the library... Use the Tower Rotation Diagram to locate the spaceship and go up the lift to recieve a clue. Ok, this time it might be handy to write down the order of the numbers... Go back out the library entrance and carry on left, just passed the pillars you will find an entrance leading down to a basement. Go down and there you will find the button needed to open the spaceship! Back to the spaceship and read the green fabric! Pull the lever to the left and wait... listen to the tune. ok now apply the order correctly (Combination: 4,1,5,2,3) If you make a mistake you must reset the order by pulling the lever. However you can only do this once all lights are out. When the order has been applied correctly the box will rise and reveal the linking book to the Selenitic Age! In this age the most important thing is sound... Walk right passed a clock and collect the red page next to it, also pull the red lever down while you're there. Ok, go right some more and you will notice a door with a cog combination to the right. Continue passed it as you still dont know the combination. Up some steps you will find and closed box, grab the green fabric and read... hm, lets continue to the right and search some more. Next you will come across a waterfall, grab the blue page next to it and pull the blue lever down. Continue right and you will find an odd area with strange shapes and an eerie wind, pull the purple lever down here. Perhaps with all the levers down, the box will now open? When inside the box, read the green fabric and then pull the lever down, stand and listen to the order of sounds given (water, wind, clock)... Remember each sound has a certain colour: (water = blue, clock = red and wind = purple)... Now that you have the order in colours you can put it into the sequence next to the door... Note the colours needed must be facing up! (Combination- blue, purple, red) The door will open and go down the stairs inside keep running right... When your vision returns you will see a ship to the left. Read the green fabric. Jump inside the ship. Hold left and the ship will move left, you will come up to a yellow station and a 'ding' can be heard on arrival. At the station you can move up or down or continue left. Up and down lead only to dead ends and so you must continue left. Consequently from this information we can deduce that 'ding' must mean that we have to be on the 2nd floor to complete the maze. Further left you will come up to another station, a 'doooow' noise can be heard- this is different to 'ding' so we know this station must not be on the 2nd floor. However we also know this station must no be on the 1st floor either, so it must be on the 3rd floor! Pull the down fabric until you get to the 3rd floor. When you are there, go left until you reach another station. On this station an 'awooga' noise can be heard this obviously isn't the same as 'ding' or 'doooow' and so this station shouldn't be on the 3rd or 2nd floor. Hm, how about the 1st floor? At the top of the 1st floor go left and the next station you meet will give you the same 'awooga' noise. We know this noise means we need to be on the 1st floor so, up you go... At the 1st floor, go left and you will find the exit. Collect the island sticker and take the book back to MYST. Back at MYST, read the red and the blue books (this time they give longer speeches that are more important). Note the green book that they refer to! Put the island sticker on the wall between these books. One more to go! The Mechanical Age: Ok, go down to the cog, between the Sunken Ship and the Spaceship and turn the Marker Switch ON. Back to the library and get the clue up the lift (remember to highlight the cog on the Tower Rotation Diagram). Go to the far left of MYST isalnd and you will find two wheels turn the brown square on the left wheel and the black square on the right wheel down. The stepping stones will then rise and let you across to the clock tower. Pull the left and the middle switch on... now the cog is open. Go and link to the Mechanical Age. Hm, looks like you need to reorder those coloured cylinders but obviously you dont know the order yet! Go left over the bridge and enter the central block. Grab the blue and the red pages tucked away round the back! Then grab the fabric in the centre. Down in the underground area you must turn the cogs for long enough to here both mechanisms engage, the lift to the top of the tower is now open! Go up the lift and read the green fabric at the top. Hm, grab the brown fabric once opposite and watch what happens. The controls to the bridge are obtained when the lift drops down! Grab the fabric again and then when the lift drops grab the right fabric visible- the green light will then move over to the right side. Back down the lift and go over the bridge that is now on the right. Take a picture of the combination and pull the lever. Back to the centre and back up the lift. Now move the bridge back across to the left using the same process but pulling the left fabric this time. Note, the green light shows you which side the bridge is... Down the lift and now go back down to the underground area. The sons' bedrooms are now visible! Take a good look. Back up to sea level and left across the bridge, put in the code. (Combination: (from left to right) white, green, blue, black, red) The door will open and you can obtain the sticker switch! Back to MYST. Last But Not Least: Ok, into the library. Read the books and place the sticker on the wall. The door will open but HOLD UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont go down just yet! Remember the reason we are on MYST? To get Atrus' missing page! Remember those white pages. You wrote down what they said, right? (If not together they said- MYST Switch Marker Vault Access: All markers must be set to the on position except... the Ship's Marker Switch which must be off. The vault will then open.) Excellent so all we have to do to open the vault is turn OFF the Marker Switch next to the Sunken Ship! Ok, once you have done that go left and back down into the underground area where you spawned in this game. Far right you will find the vault open and the page collectible. Now back to the library... The Finale: Down the lift you will find the last blue and red pages as well as the green book the boys spoke of, who do you trust? What will you choose? I'm afraid that is up to you! Thanks for playing and I hope you enjoyed it! | 2009-08-13 14:48:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
ooh ive been waiting for this. i think i watched your movie intro level. i dont want to read your spoiler, but i am curious... is the final puzzle solvable without solving the others if you already know what to do, like in the original? | 2009-08-13 15:20:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
Aiya! Look at that! Four of your levels posted here are way up at the top of the list! And worthy of it too! Anyways, like I said in the introduction thread, I'm reasonably familiar with MYST. I like how you went simple on the graphics for this one - probably mostly to make thermo room, but it works with MYST. It's great that you made it completable in sections. I dare not read the spoiler, but so far I've completed the Mechanical Age I think. However I'm not sure if I've done everything there that I have to, because I didn't get any red and blue pages - was I supposed to? Or am I just mistaken? I can't figure out what do next to access the other worlds, but I'll figure it out! So far I haven't used any hints, and I hope to keep it that way Anyways, this is as true to the MYST games as an LBP could ever get - it's truer than I thought was possible! The puzzles I've done so far were great, and well implemented. It had that MYST feel, where you don't feel frustrated checking and rechecking areas for clues because it's all part of the puzzle, and you have those moments where you fingers itch for a notepad in case you find a piece of information that you shouldn't forget. I'll let you know when/if I complete the level! 5 stars and a heart. | 2009-08-14 05:52:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
Thanks for the feedback! I would recommend all to use the bright green hints throughout the level even if you have played MYST before! Perhaps you could just use the walkthrough for the Mechanical Age because you should pick up red and blue pages at all islands. Also, there is an extra little secret you can unlock at the Mechanical Age that the walkthrough will explain. | 2009-08-14 09:33:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Oh, but I can't give in THAT easily! I'll try a bit more without the hints, but if I'm really stuck I'll go for the hints. | 2009-08-14 15:29:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
Ok then! Well I think u will be the first not to use any hints so good luck! | 2009-08-14 16:37:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
No its not like the last puzzle in Myst where it can be solved once you know it... but you can complete my version of myst in about 30 seconds once you've played before. You go to each island and pick up a sticker for that island, once u'v collected all 4 then u can get into the last red and blue page and the green book. so in some ways it is like the actual game but instead of knowing the puzzle u must have the stickers. However there are other puzzles such as openning myst vault which can be fluked like in the real game! | 2009-08-14 16:42:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
I never played the real myst game however i really want to as this is epic, manged to complete it, (when i commented) but never got the vault open, i will, everything about this level is amazing, cool puzzles (sound with color took ages to work out ) i have no idea how the thermo didn't just explode theres like 5 seprate levels in there, 5 stars, hearted | 2009-08-14 18:02:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
I will check this and let you my comments, but your other level was great. Ill be back. | 2009-08-14 20:30:00 Author: Duckywolf Posts: 198 |
I just replayed the original myst game last night, i have to say you did a stellar job of imitating the original. Your level actually helped me figure out how to do some of the real Myst puzzles XD | 2009-08-15 05:53:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Lol thats great! Awesome, im glad i helped u in the actual game! Im trying to make the endings the same now! | 2009-08-15 20:23:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Loved the original MYST and this is a great tribute. I hit a problem though, which you might want to sort out. In one of the ages I made water flow through some pipes to enter an elevator. At the top of the elevator I fell back down to the platform below, but the elevator remained at the top, leaving me no way to get back up again. I had to restart the level, as I was essentially trapped. Despite this I was impressed with the level as a whole, so I gave you four stars and hearted it. I'll play again soon and try to reach the end. | 2009-08-15 21:18:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Thanks very much fr the feedback, i'll try and sort out that problem some time. If i can get it to work without the thermo overheating | 2009-08-17 09:38:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Hey! Great walk through - I finally know why there is a key in the Stoneship Age lol I totally forgot there was a dark hallway with a locked room in the original game. That in itself is why I like your level so much - the attention to the details of the storyline and the way it's laid out... just awesome. Can't wait for the finale! | 2009-08-18 21:16:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |

I enjoyed Myst and I only found one or two little hangups. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg to the right and left of the model of the ship, there are two squares of grass that can be lifted up and allow you to fall through the spaceship segment into the logic boxes. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg the sound/color lock: took me two tries because I had assumed (based on the stepping-stone puzzle) that you meant the correct color down. It didn't register that the faint dotted lines were anything but indicators for the order. All in all, I liked this level, there seemed to be some cramped spots, and some places where it had some auto-plane difficulty, but, a really good level. I was torn between 4 and 5 stars mostly because of the grass panels. I gave it 5 because it's an easy fix. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/Hfadeline-2.jpg I read through the walk through after I finished, an thought it was very good and easy to follow. http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/Hfadeline-2.jpg if you are of a mind to, check out gradient studio utility and let me know if you think it's ready for making copyable. | 2009-08-25 01:36:00 Author: swanbrown Posts: 898 |
Hey, As a none player of Myst, i found this one quite accessible due to many hints and became immersed! I will say now that, upon travelling to the Age found in the spaceship (luckily the one i did last), everything went dark and stayed that way and i had no idea what was going on, i ran around for a bit but to no luck, i had to quit...any ideas? Apart from that, not many flaws bar some design that imo could be better? not a problem though. Anyway, on with it! The intro was great! let me know right away that work had been put into this and this must be a true fan. It also helped with the immersion. The actual level was easy to pick up for suck a complex concept and i found myself enjoying a puzzle adventure! Some things were cramped in places but, it never stopped me getting it done nor much of a distraction. Its a shame i couldn't finish it. I will follow your work from now. For you to try my A Step Back In Time or any other of my 3 levels would be great! | 2009-08-26 16:50:00 Author: Lotus_Flow3r Posts: 165 |
Ok, thanks very much for the feedback! I think u are the second person to have that problem so i'll look into it soon. SORRY tho! I think it must just be that the gas (that comes up and kills you) isn't going high enough. Btw the person who had the same problem tried again and it worked. It must just be an occasional thing. Anyway, i'll get it sorted and update the level soon. Thanks again for playing and i'll play urs shortly! | 2009-08-27 21:07:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
i finally played this lats night. its so accurate! i knew everything i needed to do without any hints just from memory. thats fantastic. but i got stuck on the ship when i accidentally grabbed the wrong control. the temporary setback ended up being quite permanent. i quit at that point because i was very tired, but i will go back and get the two stickers i am missing and finish up tonight. | 2009-09-01 00:23:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
Oh ok... was that a problem with the game then, or did you just not no where to go? | 2009-09-01 10:19:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
i waited and tried grabbing the correct switch and it didnt work. i waited a few minutes i dont know if that was long enough or not. | 2009-09-02 10:03:00 Author: Deftmute Posts: 730 |
Hm, thats odd... could u move the car left and right? If so it might not have been in the range to go up or down at that station... If not then something must have broken | 2009-09-02 10:06:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
MYST finale coming soon! Hopefully 1 or 2 weeks away! | 2009-09-11 12:06:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Awesome level. Never played the original game either. I really wanna know what happened, so please finish the conclusion soon! | 2009-09-16 19:18:00 Author: Kefkaas Posts: 86 |
MYST finale coming soon! Hopefully 1 or 2 weeks away! I just thought I'd add to the 'Hype.' Ladylyn1 has been so kind to let me see what he has so far, and let me tell you - it's AWESOME. I wish I could elaborate, but take my word for it - He's done his homework on this one | 2009-09-18 17:38:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
MYST finale coming soon! Hopefully 1 or 2 weeks away! Oooh, can't wait. I was impressed by this (though, sorry, much more impressed by the Wind series). I'd love to see you do a Myst-like, but entirely your own content. | 2009-09-18 20:47:00 Author: roux- Posts: 379 |
