LED Signs

Alright, I've come to you all to give me the best solution! Basically, I have a piece of dark matter with about 75 LED lights on it. I have another piece of dark matter with 75 mag keys hooked up to their corresponding lights. I want to figure out how to make it say what I want, as quick and perfect as possible. My solutions haven't worked, which have been from scrolling text by piston/wheels, as well as emitters (and at one point, demitters) I looked at rtm's copyable led timer that goes all the way up to 10 minutes. While I'm not looking for numbers, I want the sign to change as fast as possible. Anyone have any ideas? | 2009-08-13 03:27:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
Here's how I would do it. 1. Make a car with the entire sign on it in magnetic keys 2. Start the car before the LED sign 3. Let it run down the length of the magnetic key switches 4. When it gets to the end, destroy it and emit another one at the beginning This is the smoothest way I can think of. The other way would be to use a flipper piston, and make the max and min go off the edges of the magnetic key switch board so that it is a nice smooth looking motion. I can make you an example if you need. | 2009-08-13 14:25:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Can't answer to the post but btw, i was wandering where you find the "Led" object in the regular game? I unfortunately can't find it!!! | 2009-08-13 14:27:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |

@BSprague - When you say flipper, you mean like flipper motion in/out, so that when the mag keys are past the mag switches, it starts to the beginning? Also, wheels and pistons don't work too well... I never can find the right speed so the change in lights looks flawless... @Others - I think he means he needs to find where he can collect the light to use... | 2009-08-13 19:05:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
I think he means he needs to find where he can collect the light to use... Exactly! Thank you | 2009-08-13 19:08:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |
Exactly! Thank you Its befor the canyons... Or you have to do some tutorials.. | 2009-08-13 19:13:00 Author: Adam9001 Posts: 744 |
I thought about this when using making the LED timer. My take on it was that the sliding the keys past the lights would give a slightly blurred transition, due to the fuzziness around the mag switch radiuses. My solution would be to use something similar to my ordered inputs tool, but with a periodic movement. Essentially emit a piece of dark matter as a blocker in front of a directional piston every 0.4 seconds and make it so that the piston jumps to the new location against the blocker in 0.1s. I think this would probably give the smoothest transition, short of alternately emitting two versions of the keys on alternate layers (this would effectively do away with movement, but you would have to sync the emitting of the two, the emitter lifetimes and the movement of the object with the emitters on. Plus there would be the obvious increase in thermo of having two sets of text. This is all speculation though, I don't know for sure as I never tried any method at all. | 2009-08-13 19:50:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Exactly! Thank you The LED light is found somewhere in The Wedding Theme. | 2009-08-13 22:03:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
The LED light is found somewhere in The Wedding Theme. It is in The Darkness. You have to zipline over spikes and it's very easy to get. Hmm, why do I seem to remember that so well? Ah, I have the official strategy guide on my lap. It's on "Lights" on the second page of the Goodies Bag. Hope this helps. | 2009-08-13 22:41:00 Author: MarkoWolfy Posts: 445 |
At rtm, I think that could work. I could have all of the mag switches on the back plane, and then emit this..."scroller", which would go left/right, and basically do what you said. Try to go the direction it wants to, but it gets blocked by darkmatter... I'm afraid that a 0.1 setting could break whatever is moving i.e. the mag keys. | 2009-08-13 22:58:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
