Last night: 8/11/09

I dream that I was on Balcony (I guess like 15th floor)(With chairs and parasol ) And there was people (Around 3 people) there that knows me, but I don't know them. We were talking (I can't remember the conversation). It was around.. I guess 11am feeling. And a bit cloudy. I can see building around the place.

But then a really really strong wind kicked in, and pushed away a girl name Vanessa (o_O) Off the building, and her chick friend was screaming. I was like (Holy ----). We were all clinging on a stair case rail.. and then I woke up...

Really weird.
I like this thread. It could be our dream log .

I've had dreams were:

-I was eaten alive by animals.
-My Dog became a zombie and I had to kill and bury it.
-The world went up in flames in a huge, horrible war. I watched my world burn before me.
-Died from starvation and hypothermia in a frozen wasteland.

That's just some things recently, as in a few months.
I don't sleep well.

I used to have nightmares almost every night. I haven't had one now in a long time.

But I can still remember most of my nightmares, because I would often have the same one several times. They were usually really whacky nightmares, and didn't make much sense.

One nightmare I had many times was this weird one where I could jump super high. But then some freaky-looking monster would come after me and could jump just as high, and I would be trying to avoid it until eventually I got tired and couldn't outpace it. I always wake up just before I die, in any dream I have. I've always wondered if it's actually possible for you to see yourself dying in a dream (not in actuality, just in the dream), since I always wake up just before it happens.

Another freaky dream I had was about this spider. I was in the computer room, and all of a sudden a see-through spider came through the wall and latched on to me, like a leech. I couldn't get it off - my hand went right through it - and it slowly drained my life away.

I also had some dreams that were neither happy nor nightmare-ish, although just as weird. One such dream I was some sort of a knight, and I always started out on this maze-like path, and would fight beasts (if anyone's read Wheel of Time they were probably inspired by my imagination of Trollocs). I would always come out victorious, and would suddenly find myself in this mansion. In the mansion I don't remember everything, but I know I went exploring with someone else, and at the end of the dream I always find myself in a room with a subway passing through it, and out of the subway comes the Joker, or something to that effect.
Yeah, my dreams were pretty whacky :o

Now if I ever dream it's usually about...um... I guess you could call them fantasy dreams, if you catch my drift...

Yay! Now, twenty years from now, I'll be able to recount some of my dreams by coming back to this thread!

I think we always wake up before we die is because we still fear death.

Im about to sleep in like 2 hours (Hopes its a lucid dream!)

It's funny, in one of my dreams, I was in this space time lock thing, and while in there I could wish for something to happen while playing a video game, but it had to do with the video game. The video game seemed like virtual reality. I wished I could stick my hand out of a moving train inn the video game and then I did it and woke up.2009-08-14 06:09:00

-My Dog became a zombie and I had to kill and bury it.

(cough) Pet Semetary (cough)

I used to have nightmares all the time. Now I barely dream, but when I do it's a pointless chain of random events. Don't we have tons of dreams every night but we can't remember them? And aren't dreams incredibly short?

One time I was in a tiny boat without a sail (it was only me) and there was no land I on the horizon and then it started raining fish. Then I forget what happened.

Usually my dreams make no sense, and it will be something incredibly depressing, weird, or perverted along with some weird video game thing thrown in.

-My Dog became a zombie and I had to kill and bury it.

I've had that same dream. One of the zombies had captured me, but my dog saved me and got bit. I rushed back home to try and cure him but it was too late. I had to strangle him with my bare hands. As I somberly walked over to the cemetery, I looked back and saw that same zombie. Then my mom got scared and said, "You're moving with your Auntie and Uncle to Bel-Air!"

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
license plate said FR3SH and it had dice in the mirror.
If anything, I could say that this cab was rare,
But I thought, nah forget it, yo homes to Bel-air!

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, homes smell you later!
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-air!
-----
I'm sorry, the dream sounded alot like I am Legend and you know who starred in that.

No, it just usually happens if you thought about something freaky during the day (Mornings). Because they end up at your dreams at night for some reason.

I had a really weired dream last night!

To sum it up I was having to steal 50 cars in 5 days otherwise I wasn't allowed to drink coffee again!?! Thing is that unlike 'gone is 60 seconds' it wast all supercars i had to steal! But in the end I was driving a Suzuki Cappuccino on a mountain road in the Cairngorms to deliver it in time, when i drove into a tunnel & crashed into a Lamborghini Miura!
And that was the end of the dream!

That tells me I've been watching too many films!

My dreams are strange...

I'll admit that the majority of the art styles I use in my levels ALL come from dreams.

The Spirit Passage is based off a dream I had when I was 8 years old. The only differences between the dream and the level was that the dream was snowing, there were auroras in the sky, the dream started with maniacal laughter, and i died at the end of the dream after falling into a cavern

For whatever reason, this dream, the falling into the cavern, and that curious windmill stuck with me for the longest time. I have literally dozens of dreams like this, LBP gives me the ability to recreate them

My next ultra-art level will most likely be based off of a nightmare. A very traumatizing one too :/

Okay, I had the coolest dream ever, but it's very confusing.

I was one of the Degrassi kids and we were in some kind of city with some beach and over the course of the dream we talked to some guy. Then, before we knew it, a building fell over on some other buildings. I remember saying "Holy s***" (this is one of the only dreams I remember saying anything) a bunch of times as it fell over, then we saw it was a helicopter and it started shooting missiles at me and apparently I didn't die. Instead, it was some kind of epilogue narration which made no sense (as it was just probably the History Channel, because I was sleeping in front of my TV) talking about some kind of group that we talked to and we were charged with conspiring against the government but the government was called antisemitic and all charges were dropped, and then in the dream. And then it turned into something along the lines of Saint's Row 2 and I stole a helicopter and then I got to school and then I learned that when school ends your senior year it just restarts which is weird...
Like I said, it was very confusing.

Does anyone else get Sleep Paralysis, or have experienced it? Most people do at least once. I'm one of the lucky ones that gets it on a regular basis. For me I average about once a month, so it's not so bad. But some of these "episodes" are DOOZIES.

For the uninitiated, this is what happens: Your body is in a state of paralysis while you sleep, in order to keep you form physically acting out your dreams. It's possible to wake up, to become conscious, before your body comes out of its paralysis. You might be lying there for a minute or so, completely unable to move, and just waiting for the ability of movement to return. Yeah, I know! IT'S NOT ****ING COOL!!!!

But for the most part it's not dangerous, and quite normal. Although it can be dangerous. How? I'll tell you.

On the precipice of sleep, where you're teetering between awake and asleep, you can slip right into it. One time I was just lucid enough to be aware of myself drifting to sleep and I suddenly froze up in paralysis and woke up wide awake. I was stuck for what felt like 10 minutes, though it was probably closer to 2 minutes, and "wide awake" was probably still "half asleep".

When I finally came out of it I was so go******** relieved I sat up in bed, heaved a HUGE sigh, thanked God I could move my body and I was awake and healthy, and in a great burst of exasperation and relief, I collapsed face first into my pillow.

Guess what happened on impact?

Yep. I was paralyzed. In bed. With my face IN my pillow. The thought came to me then that I might actually suffocate. What in the hell would that look like? Nearly on the verge of panic, I forced myself to stay calm and wait it out, hold my breath and breathe slowly into my pillow. Within a minute or two I came out of it.

I decided not to sleep the rest of that night. Considered pooping on the steps of a church, but with time considered that maybe God just has a sick sense of humor, and that's cool with me.

I have terrible horrific nightmares, and super-funny bliss-filled dreams. but I never remember them.

I only know because when I wake just the residual feeling is there. no memory of it at all!

Hmm... where to start. Well first off one time I dreamed I was eating lunch in the cafeteria at my old elementary school and I got tired. So I layed down on the bench and woke up.

A few weeks ago I dreamed there were monsters all outside my house! They looked like giant wolves or insects or something, can't describe them really I tried to get in the car to go to work but got dragged down by their gnawing teeth. Then I woke up.

As far as remembering my dreams, if I don't make an effort to recall and sort out what happened I forget within minutes. Oh, and the most interesting dreams always happen just before I wake up.

Sleep paralysis, what Teebonesy was talking about, is possibly one of the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. The weirdest thing about it was that my friend Jamie had just been talking about it with me. I left his house, went home, began to fall asleep, and it happened to me.

My dream was about aliens. I was lying in my bed and these aliens were standing over me. I couldn't move, couldn't scream. nothing. I woke up and was trying to scream "help me" but I was unable to. Man, it was the most terrifying experience of my entire life.

I also had another really strange experience involving a dream. This is kinda insane, and I really can't explain it to this day. I had this dream a few days before christmas when I was in 9th grade. I was going out to the garage looking for photo albums. I dont' know why, I don't even keep photo albums in my garage. These photo albums were small ones that only fit one photo per page, and one was black, and one was white. As I went for the albums, I turned around to see my dead grandfather coming out of one of the doors in the back of the garage (we have 4 closet like doors in the back of our garage) ... Scared to death, I woke up.

Now, the next day I had to get some thumbtacks out of the garage to hang up a poster. I went out to the garage and my grandfather's flannel was hanging by the doors in the back. The thumbtacks I needed were right were the photo albums were in my dream. Kinda weird, but nothing compared to what happens next.

The day after that, christmas morning, I wake up and start opening presents. My aunt always gets us these generic presents because she never knows what to get us. I opened mine and it was a make up kit. My mom said she'd take it, cause I am not exactly the type who wears makeup. She said I could have whatever she got. She opened her present. Guess what it was?

The black photo album.

I'll even take a picture of the album if you don't believe me, because I have it up in my attic. It was one of the weirdest things ever. I love dreams so much!

I'm in the same boat as you here. I had never experienced sleep paralysis until a couple days after I read about it in a thread.

The details of the actual dream are somewhat fuzzy, but it went something like this:

A plane crashed and it was all over the news. I was in a news station watching the fire and smoke on 30 or 40 different screens. All of a sudden, I started seeing dead people in the smoke and fire. I knew (because it was a dream) that they were the passengers of the plane, and it was so vivid and disturbing. I don't know if other people could see them or not, that was fuzzy. I woke up paralyzed, with the dead smoke people floating around and staring down at me. I knew what was going on because I had been talking about it the day before, but it was absolutely terrifying nonetheless.

Yeah, it's so weird! You're still in the dream, and the dream keeps happening around you, but you can see your room, too.

A lot of people see old women when they have sleep paralysis, and the old women press down on their chests and keep them from moving. I think it used to be called "old hag syndrome" or something of that nature because of that.

I had another one, too... weird dreams about my grandmother. She died in an MRI machine back in 1999, which was pretty upsetting to begin with.

After this, I started having dreams about her. Dreams that she was still in her house, trying to find my grandfather. They were really realistic dreams, too. The one time I went over to her house in my dream, and she was just sitting in the closet in the hallway, crying her eyes out. Another time she took me down to her basement to look for him.

The dreams went on and on and they were always the same, until one day I went over to her house in a dream and she was sitting at the table with my grandfather. She told me she had found him and I wouldn't be seeing her anymore because she could finally move on.

I didn't have those dreams ever again after that.

@slutzinc. . Lol, have you seen the film "the peanut butter solution"? Thats the only way I can imagine that craziness entering your dream. . . . well the first part anyways.

So heres a funny story. . . a few of my friends and myself have had dreams where we are yelling at my brother. Just angry for some reason, and we aren't the type of folk given to yelling at others in the waking world. But for some reason we have had dreams where we yell at him specifically and can't remember why when we wake up. Even funnier, when mentioned to my brother, he confessed that he's had dreams where he's getting yelled at by us! lol

But that is not the weirdest dream I've had. Actually, most of my dreams gets really weird and when I wake up I'm really weirded out ? which would help explain my need to drink excessive amounts of coffee to get my day started.

About Sleeping Paralysis:

Here's the "hag" that xkappax had heard of. This painting is "The Nightmare" by Henry Fuseli. It's probably familiar to a lot of you. Very famous painting, and representing a very common shared experience throughout the world.

http://sleepzine.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/fuseli_nightmare.jpg

A lot of people have what are called hypnagogic hallucinations. They're basically dreams that continue even after your eyes are open. You're seeing your room, but something else too. Commonly with sleeping paralysis, if you're lying on your back, your breathing may be constricted. Your dreaming mind makes sense of this by imagining something on your chest. Usually some dark menacing creature. This is the hag.

Here's the amazing thing to me though. It's a nightmare shared by people, independently and WITHOUT knowledge, one of the other, throughout the world, throughout time. Talk all you will of the science of the thing - that we understand. It's not difficult to grasp why it happens or how - we've solved these conundrums - but nonetheless one of the men who built Stonehenge was visited by the same Hag who sits on the chest of some flamboyant New York artist tonight. In the sense of human experience, these creatures are real. They exist in a dream place that we all share and visit.

Cultures everywhere have imagined the Boogeyman, and children everywhere have dreamed of the thing coming down the hall to grab them out of their beds in the middle of the night. This is possibly my earliest memory - ever since I slept in a crib, I've dreamed of the monster coming for me. My setting is unfantastic - my bed, my room. I hear it coming for me, and I know it's ME that it's coming for. I hide under the blankets. Everything is dark, so the world is made of sound. The monster is footsteps in the hallway. It's a gutteral moan, a hungry breath, gradually louder. Everything silent, and I know it's at the door. The slam as it opens wide. I hear it come right up to the bed, and there's nothing I can do now but close my eyes, my ears, tightly shut out my senses and wait for pain and death. When it comes, it's a ripping into the real world, paralyzed. ONE time... and this is utterly incredible - but I peeked out of my blanket to see if the monster was really there. And it was. Giant claws attacked me, brought down onto me like the force of an anvil. I felt it. I jerked awake - no paralysis, for once - and the CAT had JUST JUMPED ONTO ME. My jerking awake scared him and he scampered away. My heart was racing like nothing else.

This is a shared nightmare, throughout the world, throughout time. Our realities are made up of our perspectives. So in terms of human experience, as I mentioned, these creatures are real. Put them in the bestiary. The hag. The boogeyman. They're out there.

There's an incredible stop-motion animated short film that is so truthful to this childhood experience. it's directed by Paul Berry and it's called The Sandman. Watch... If you dare!!

YouTube - Sandman, The (1992)
(note that this is a sloppy quality version, and it appears at least one bit is cut out for some reason - at the beginning, after the opening titles, it suddenly cuts to a strange crystalline nest - the part that's missing is a slow zoom onto the pale crescent moon - the jagged nest rests in the moon's cradle. I also want to mention here that this little short film is one of my favorite movies of all time, period.

Another shared nightmare, one that kappa mentioned: I give you alien abduction stories. xkappax has experienced alien abduction, as real and tangible as everyone who's ever shown up on a fox special claiming it for themselves and giving their stories of abduction and anal probes.

Regarding the phenomenon that it seems to happen only after you learn about it:

In my personal experience, I've had sleeping paralysis regularly for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest young childhood memories are nightmares and paralysis.

But here's a bit of information that might really make things scary. I've also experienced how knowledge of the thing can make it occur. We've all danced a bit on the edge of sleeping and waking, flitting in and out, and we know how strange a sensation that is. After experiencing paralysis as often as I have, I came to recognize how it felt to come in and out of it, though I still could never control it. But what came with familiarity was frequency. This is when things started to get scary. I'd be laying down in bed, and before even falling asleep - before ever a moment came when I lost consciousness and slipped into a dream I would suddenly seize into paralysis. Premature paralysis, I guess you could call it. It hasn't happened often, but I've had it several times. I'm lying down, sleepy, tired, calm, comfortable, and suddenly I feel a seizing, and I'm locked in. It's almost like I anticipate it, and so my body assumes it's ready to shut 'er down.

You try to scream, you try to thrash. Sometimes you can get a little something out, usually vocally. My girlfriend occasionally - OCCASIONALLY - is able to help me out of it because I let out a light moaning, the result of my attempted screams.

My most common hypnagogic hallucinations during these are very mundane and utterly, completely believable. I see my hand moving, lifting it up to tap my girlfriend on the shoulder. and then suddenly there's a jump cut - my hand's still down, still unable to move. One time I was able to move and I nearly jumped on top of my girlfriend, gasping for air and relief. Jump cut - I'm still. Paralyzed. And she's sound asleep.

I watched that sandman thing, not how I pictured the 'sandman' legend.

Lol, here's Metallica's take on nightmares and the 'sandman'.

DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVE EPILEPSY

YouTube - Enter Sandman- Metallica

I used to have a lot of nightmares of falling off high things like cliffs and buildings like in that video too.

I can't remember a lot ofmy most recent dreams either, even though they were vivid.... actualy I can remember one; it's far too crazy to explain it properly. Seriously it would take a full day for me to fully explain it, it would be like trying to explain the game/ inteactive art 'linger in shadows' to someone.

One of/ if not my first ever nightmare was running through a dark tunnel with these flying things going the other way (don't ask what) and then I couldn't stop running into this giant monster's mouth. I found that one really scary when I was very young because it was like I could feel the warmth in it's mouth.:kz:

By the way, if I get that sleep paralysis tonight then I know who to blame it on.

I remember I had a dream where I tried to leave my room but someone turned off the gravity and I couldn't move forward I just floated. I felt like I was running from something in the dream but I don't know what.2009-08-25 08:49:00

I didn't get it, but I've heard about it long before this thread.

Nah. . . you're not the only one; I too was spared a visit from the hag. Funny enough. . . almost dissapointingly.

My husband had a weird sleep paralysis dream. He dreamt that he was with shaggy and scooby from scooby doo and they were walking in a swamp. Shaggy fell into the swamp and came up and had all seaweed all over him like he was playing a joke. then Shaggy fell on him and started pushing on him, and under the seaweed was just a charred skeleton on a stick. He tried to wake up and couldn't move.

I know that dream is kinda goofy, but he said it was really scary at the time.

It sounds like a perfect paralysis dream actually! Oftentime the paralysis comes at a moment of horror in a dream. A moment that's so horrible and surprising and awful that you don't want to deal with it, and you're lurched into a paralyzed state.

I had one friend who actually somehow ENJOYED Paralysis. He liked to just lay there and experience total paralysis. Some people are just weird like that.

Also, I think the statistic is somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of all people experience sleeping paralysis at least once in their lives. So if it hasn't happened yet, it probably will someday!

I remember seeing this documentary on Discovery, or PBS, or something a while back. It was about sleep, dreams, and parasomnias. I saw it late at night.

it was the scariest **** thing I'd ever seen!!! man, you read up about that stuff enough and it eventually starts to scare you. Nightmares, the hag, sleepwalking. Anyone ever sleepwalked? I have a few times.

one time my sister came in and "woke me up" because she wanted to borrow my extra futon mattress. I got up, shuffled over the mattress against the wall, and began picking it up, moving it around, flipping it over, getting frustrated with it, and talking to myself about where the ****ed "wheels" were.

I had a dream where I was running down a street on the sidewalk and there were up turned tables on each side all the way down the street and I was waiting for someone to finally jump out at me, because apparantly I knew it would happen. So some guy dressed in black jumped out and the dream ended. Makes no sense lol.

I've also been trapped inside my house because some evil witch was flying around on her broom. And another one when I was going to a history class and when I got there I realize I forgot my book lol, I think that ended there.
