LittleBigExperience Upgraded!

Archive: 49 posts

We've upgraded our LittleBigExperience system, which carries with it a boatload of fixes and features. I'll summarize the most important changes:

Layout has been redesigned - The Experience system is now much easier to use. With hundreds of slick new icons and less mess, you'll have a much better time browsing and using the various features.
You can give away points (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/xperience.php?go=gap)! - Finally, you have the ability to give away raw XP to any other member on the site. Simply click Experience in the navbar, then click on the Give away points icon (far right), and you'll be able to pick out exactly which kinds of points you're sending and who will receive them!
New Activities page (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/xperience.php?go=activities) - Listing detailed changed in XP, purchases, and awards, the Activities page is perfect for those of you who love to keep track of the under-the-hood goings-on of the site.
"Activity" stat revamped - The once-simple "Activity" statistic that ranks each user's activity on the site has been overhauled. It now takes into account visitor messaging, social group interactions, and blogging. Other minor changes have also been made to ensure it is more accurate.
Social Group support - Your actions in various social groups now have an effect on your overall XP.

Enjoy the new features, and don't forget to report any oddities you might find. I've also included the full changelog for those of you who want to take a peek at the details of this upgrade.

Great updates there! I don't think I'll be giving away my hard-earned XP any time soon, but it is great for contests and general philanthropy.

Speaking of philanthropy...you want to throw a thousand or two of those points in my general direction?

This kinda renders the giving exp for a contest pointless now... Plus now we can give away prizes for things OTHER then LBP contests O_O

... And also... adding this to mnrc? D=

But still, yeah, very nice, very nice indeed :kz:

You won't get a thousand or two, but your essay-writing prowess has earned you some of my redundant XP

I'll sort it out later once I can be bothered to work out how

I didn't even realize exactly how long that "feedback" was until I hit send and it said I was 5,000 characters over the limit.

No, not really.
With the Offer XP you can still give away more than you spend on it.

No, it doesn't. With Offer XP, you only spend 500xp. We hand out the XP to whoever won it, so it doesn't come out of your own pocket. It's good for larger-scale contests where you want to hand out more than 500xp but you don't have the XP to back it up.

1) So I WASN'T crazy when I saw all the activity bars go down to 0% for a few minutes!

2) I was just looking at my own page, and was like.. "Hey, I don't remember this stuff being there! How do I always miss these things?!" But lo and behold, it was a new update

Anyways, great stuff CC! Maybe I'll start getting involved in more social groups and such!

And how else am I ever gonna catch up to you
Maybe you should try out the new Give away points thing and throw 5000 my way to give me a chance

Quick update: I just made a few tweaks to the activity portion so it would be more accurate. It works on a system of average posts per day versus your posts per day, them compounds those statistics with Social Groups, Blogs, and Visitor Messages to come up with the final number. Note that Social Groups, Blogs, and Visitor Messages have a much weaker effect on your percentage than posts do, so you can have near 100% without actually participating in any of them. However, the less you post, the more those other features help your percentage, so those of you who lurk might still find yourself with a 15-30% activity ranking.2009-08-13 05:17:00

I think there might be a flaw with the new activity system. This member, (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?u=3483) who hasn't been active in two weeks, has an activity percentage of ~60. That seems sort of high, considering people who are on constantly and actively posting aren't much higher and some are even lower. I'm sure that there are many factors I'm not taking into account, but to me it seems a little unbalanced when someone can not even log in for two weeks and still be more active than most members.2009-08-14 02:34:00

I looked into it, and it seems it's not able to detect the average posts per day. That's definitely not a good thing, and I'm not sure why that is. I'll do some more investigating and see what I can turn up.

Question, are there anymore updates that come along with this?2009-08-14 02:50:00

Quick update: it seems it's an issue with the latest version. I've informed the developer of the mod, but I'm not sure when he will get back to me (it usually takes a day or so). I'm basically just waiting for a response, so expect the Activity section to be inaccurate until I'm able to nail down the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean, exactly.

Hey CC, not sure if this helps, but I had noticed last night that several folks like Morgana as well as myself were down to 0 percent when others jumped as high as 99 percent. I didn't think about it much since it was possibly a rollover per day sort of average, but now that I see your post, I wanted to let you know in case it might help.

Good luck!

I've installed a fix for the bug that the mod developer published, and after making some tweaks to the way the system works, I think we're back on track. Thanks for bearing with me while I worked on getting everything working again. 2009-08-14 20:07:00

Crikey, CC, this is better service than a paid subscription-based one! I think we're all 'with you', never mind 'bearing with you'!!!

Good job, and thank you

It takes what you've done in the past two weeks and compares it to the average of the top 10 posters in those same two weeks, then draws a percentage from it. If you're highly active one week, then you leave for another, your activity will change. If for some reason the activity of the forums picks up and everyone becomes more active but you don't, your activity percentage will drop accordingly. It's a very dynamic system.

It sounds pretty fool-proof to me. Hopefully everything is balanced out and fair now.
