Wanna hear a funny/embarrassing LBP story?

Archive: 17 posts

Way back when i was still getting to grips with the way LBP worked, i was experimenting with 'Pistons'.

I wanted to get a door to open and stay open. So i attached a piston to a piece of metal and got it to move up, clearing a space for sackboy to run through! "Hoor....oh, its come back down again!" i thought.

Id played through other levels with a similar scenario, but couldn't figure out how they got that blasted door to stay open!

So i 'invented' a little set up...here it goes:

An emitter set to emit a golf ball onto a button linked to a switch attached to the piston of the 'Door'. The 'Lifetime' of the golf ball would be set to how long it took for the piston to make one journey up. When the golf ball disappeared, the door remained open!

Amazing complexity for something so basic, i used that technique all over my level, from doors to hazards, to backgrounds, to vehicles. I kept thinking, wow, these other creators must have this technique nailed!

Towards the end of building the level, i was setting up a button and accidentally tapped the analogue stick to the right. The 'set to' icon changed from 'On/Off' to 'Direction'.

My face was a little like this  Boy, have a come a long way since then.
What a !!N000000B!!!11

Do you have any similar stories? I'd love to hear them!

Peace

Wrong switch maybe?
I don't remember if a Button has a One-Shot setting.

Oh, I'd rather use a custom one-shot switch instead.
If you see the video of "Switchtastic: Switches" video of MM, they'll show you.
Search them in blip.tv

Yeah, it definetly took me awhile to get the hang of create mode. I got the game on day one and didn't even know what the purpose/use of the dissolvable material was until about February. I still remember when I use to use string to hold up my levels because I had no idea what dark matter was or even glueing was. I look back now and I'm pretty embarrassed 2009-08-11 03:28:00

I was pretty knowledgeable about the game when I started since I OBSESS about the game and look up videos about it before i get it all the time. (this is what i am doing with Team Fortress 2 right now.)

I had a TON of trouble with switches and would do the same thing he did! For one shot switches i would have the magnetic key fall onto the key switch instead of the simple dissolve technique. I still have troubles with switches, though.

I used to overwork stuff all the time before i spent more time in create mode, for example i had a system to make a light follow a sackperson using a piston to push the light, this made the light jerky and didn't move smooth, now i can just attatch a wobble bolt, and that's it, super smooth

you can copy my sack following light 2 level it shows the setup i used, that was made long ago
