My advice for all..

Archive: 14 posts

Ugh...scrolling the the cool pages recently has been a real bummer.
'Can You Beat It?', 'Hardest Level Ever!' 'Falling Bombs (PWNED MODE!!)' and so on fill up page 1 day after day.

It's not just repetitive and uncreative, but also selfish.

I was beginning to lose all faith in the LBP community...

But then, yesterday whilst booting up LBP, i didn't do the usual skipping of the opening credits. I Decided to watch.

That 1 minute or so really, really boosted my morale! I remembered what it was like to hear it for the first time and the feeling of knowing that i was about to start something wonderful.

So, my advice is; People's selfishness and laziness got you down? Watch the intro next time you start the game and really listen to the words!

My only hope is that i could get this message to everyone on LittleBigPlanet, maybe then we'd have more interesting levels.

Peace

The joke works a lot better when it is done on audio for obvious reasons, but it's effective nonetheless.

On topic: When I first get any game, I always watch the opening of it. I loved the way LittleBigPlanet opened and it got me terribly excited to play. Stephen Fry's voice narrating this game is truly the proverbial icing on the cake that is LittleBigPlanet. The tutorials were fun and interesting when paired with the witty lines and tone of his voice. The introduction of the game is inspiring, and I did get a lot of my motivation based off of that alone.

I bought the game not knowing anything about it! I was at a friends house, playing it for the first time, and when i heard him speak; i was sold. The rest is history

Yeah, there is definately some garbage at the top of cool pages... some have found ways to exploit the way cool pages work by building quick challenges that kill you right away, therefore forcing you to play multiple times and kicking it up cool pages.

BUT, there is also some fantastic stuff there - Wexfordian, MrsSpookyBuz, JwwPhotos, JackOfCourse, Poms - these are people that are designing things that are unbelievably creative and fun - and there's enough of these kinds of levels in the first 5 pages of cool pages to give you a few to play every night.... and if you look a little deeper down the pages, you'll find a few other gems floating there - GrantosUK, Morgana25, Mother_Misty, NinjaMicWZ (among others) are a little more relaxed about the way their levels float up, but their stuff is brilliant too when they're on cool pages.

Every night I've flipped through and found at LEAST 1 fantastic piece of content (such as AMBlaze before he was a member) or Montevista.

But I TOTALLY agree about the introduction - the most inspiring openings of a video game ever.

You can count me in that relaxed group too...

I don't use the republishing trick. Usually the plays that I get from the forum and such are enough to cement the level and then gradually grow.

But yes, I watched the introduction a few days a go and it really did make me smile, it reminded me of that excitement and charm that I experienced in the opening week!

Darn , I thought I'd got a mention there CC until I realised it said 'Montevista'

I agree though the cool pages system does need a serious overhaul. As CC says there are some really worthy levels up there but unfortunately they have cack sat alongside them for some absurd unknown reason. It's not the old republishing trick either because some of the cack levels up there don't even show any republishing at all and only have a handful of plays !! Go figure.

It's weird too because my Sheriff Sack level has been on page 2 for the last week and suddenly today it's disappeared completely !!

I think the levels you are seeing on page 1 are brad new. They automatically get put on page one for 30 seconds or so to give them a fair chance of getting plays, and a week is all you got on any of the cool pages :C

You can judge how long you have left by the size of your levels icon (The bigger it gets, the less time it has.)

Yup, the glowing ones are newly published.... MisterVista's Sheriff level has been cemented for the past week.... but, once the 7 days are up - it disappears.

The time for "Destiny!" will be up on Wednesday night. It was the first one I did practically NO republishing except for a few bug fixes, but the plays from this site kicked it into cool pages.... it's done better than I expected there - I was expecting about a 2 star rating by this time!

Its weird, I was just thinking the other day that the cool levels pages are just so much better these days.

I mean in the last week alone you have seen the publication of so many fantastic levels.

Yes there are a lot of bomb survival, hardest level eva etc levels. but the fact is there is a place for everyones levels now. You might not light bomb survival levels or whatever the flavour of the month is but the fact is a LOT of Kids do, and this is a game that (thankfully) allows people to play whatever type of level they want.

I don't want every video on youtube to be about films, art or music. Even though I am not a sports man, I like the fact that people who like sports can get their fix also. Its all about diversity.

I bet if you go to your local cinema you wouldn't like every single film showing but I gaurantee you some people would like the ones you don't.

Personally, I prefer to race flamingos than something from motorstorm. But Im glad we have the option.

On that intro though...... wow.... I still remember the first time watching it..... oh the smile on my face
