More Info On Extra Layer Glitch: 132 Layers! Steps to Place Objects in Extra Layers!
Archive: 12 posts
A couple of updates on bakscratch's extra layer glitch: First of all, EXO_NINJA_VX has created 132 extra layers from back to front! It goes so far you can't see the end. Truly awesome. Thi766 participated in making it. Be sure to check out EXO_NINJA's level on the additional layers. Second, I got a chance to talk to thi766 himself today and he explained the steps to place objects in the background and foreground! This can only be done using emitters. This can't be chained either. 1) Place an extra layer object. 2) Place the object you want to emit on the plane. I don't think it has to be touching the plane, just be in the same space. 3) Capture everything. 4) Place an emitter on the 1st or 3rd thin layer, depending on if you're emitting an object in the foreground or background. 3rd farthest layer for bg, 1st nearest layer for fg. Set it to infinite lifetime. 5) Emit your captured object and plane. 6) Pause time before it emits, and move the emitter to the opposite farthest layer. The object will now emit in an extra layer. There you have it! Works too, I tried it. But I noticed once for some reason I captured an object with moving parts, and when I emitted it it mysteriously broke and froze the game. That was emitting from the 10th thin forelayer after moving the emitter back in "real" space I believe. So be careful. | 2009-08-10 21:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
This has a level showing how to do that. In it he explains that pistons, motors etc don't work, so there's your problem. | 2009-08-10 21:26:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
Yes but this is the official thread explaining how. And thanks for telling me that. Now I know why that happened. | 2009-08-10 21:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
132 layers? That's a bit excessive. I hope Mm release this as DLC, but with only 2 or 3 extra layers. | 2009-08-10 21:30:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
I think the extra layer glitch is kinda silly, as are most other glitches. S'why I don't use them. Except for the one with the candles, because I need those for my fireballs. > | 2009-08-10 21:33:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
132 layers, cool, i'm never gona use them but it's still cool | 2009-08-10 21:34:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
132 Layers is a bit much. But about 7 layers would be perfect for my new level. Anyway. Your not aspose to publish your 3D Level's till September. Sadly... | 2009-08-10 21:39:00 Author: XHaveNoMercyX Posts: 124 |
Where'd you get that september thing from? | 2009-08-10 21:42:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
It's a nontrue rumor LBP_level_Critic posted just to screw with the LBP community. Do whatever you want guys. | 2009-08-10 22:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hmm...I'm not a big fan of the extra thousand-or-so buggy layers, but I'm sure this could entertain a good amount of people. Quality post nonetheless! | 2009-08-11 01:02:00 Author: Night Angel Posts: 1214 |
Sorry, I had to post some clarification here, as I had a phenomenally difficult time following the step-by-step instructions. Eventually, with the help of my dear girlfriend, I figured it out. Here's a more detailed step-by-step for anyone trying to get objects, lights, etc into those pesky background layers. First make sure you're in pause mode, and not at the bottom of the map. Easier to to do this in mid-air somewhere. Set down bakscratch's FOREGROUND tool, not background tool. Now place the object you want to move in the background close to this long foreground block. Let's say you're doing an LED light. If you want it to be in the farthest background layer, put it in the farthest layer. If you only want it to be 4 or 5 layers back, put it in the front flat layer. Or, if you're not sure, place 4 different LEDs at all 4 flat distances. Now capture all of it as an object. You can now delete the pieces you've already laid down. Now place an emitter on a flat piece of dark matter in the farthest back flat layer. Set it to emit your newly-captured object right next to it, and set the lifetime to infinity. Now unpause, but only for a second to "activate" the emitter. Pause it again immediately after, before the emitter actually emits anything. Now move your piece of dark matter with the emitter all the way to the foreground. Unpause. Your emitter will emit the object into the background, along with your LEDs (or whatever it is you want to get back there). If you have a bunch of objects you want to move into the background, you can do them all at once, and capture the whole lot of them as one object to be emitted into the distance. It is kind of a pain, but it works. There are plenty of glitchy problems with dealing with those back layers, so no guarantee you'll be able to get them where you want them. But at least they're back there! And by the way, thanks for laying out the instructions, even though I had a hell of a time figuring them out. Wouldn't have been able to do this otherwise. | 2009-08-20 00:44:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
So now we can make our very own Tutorial background with the clouds and stars and such. | 2009-08-22 23:45:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
