Tower Death Race

It's a race where a tower races to the bottom of you. There are several trials which are very varied but they all have the same principle, get from right to left as quickly as possable and then get squashed. I would love any feedback you guys can give me and any tips for improving the level, no matter how drastic it is lol.

This level was a fun challenge. I liked how each floor was different and how it never got frustrating. The obstacles were nicely made and the transition worked well. The length of the level was also nice. Everything looked and played good, but it does have room to grow.

For the obstacles, some of them are pretty basic, so if you add anymore, try to make them more complex. One actual problem I had was when the level transition was happening. After the 3rd or 4th challenge, a red wall fell down and blocked my view of the level. When I retried the level, everything worked fine.

Thanks for the feedback and the comments. That red wall thing has bugged me for ages it's because of one of the panels on the puzzel trial and it someones becomes unstuck ya gotta love a good physics engine lol any tips on how to make it stick better.2009-08-10 21:50:00

You've got a good, very extendable, concept. I can't say that I enjoyed having my sackboy squished everytime he completed a section, but I guess that is part of the concept. It is a death race after all.

There was some nice variation in the sections. I've seen the wheel that must be turned different directions to get the item out a few too many times to be excited about it. While some of the other sections had common mechanics, they don't grow old as fast. Swing and grab, swing and grab. Perhaps a section that bounces the sackboy around would be a nice addition? I've got a couple of kids and anything with a vehicle gets their attention.

One thought on adding more to the ending is to do something like one of the MGS levels. The one I'm thinking of keeps track of how many diamonds you've shot and then has an award for each one near the end of the level. Awarding each section completed in a certain time at the very end might increase the satisfaction of having done well. Obviously if you can't get to the end without finishing each section, then an award at the end for finishing each section is redundant with just reaching the end.

Tower Death Race feels like a mini-game, which is perfectly fine and perhaps the way it should be. On the other hand, you might consider adding just a bit more story to the start and end of the level to make it feel more like an adventure or something like that. Story ideas that might work include: 1. Aliens have abducted Sackboy and are running experiments. 2. Sackboy has been wrongly convicted of a crime and his one chance at freedom is to run the death race. 3. Sackboy has been sent to hell and is being torchered, but perhaps his good spirit will be noticed as he never gives up and he may yet make it to heaven. I'm sure there are many possibilities.

I hope I've provided something to think about. If you care to check out one of my levels, I've made a post: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=14790. The level is Spooky Zombie Manor... Beware the Undead.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to do another Tower Death Race but make it part of a story next time and will take into account your advice and maybe one of the story ideas (but i'll put my own sick humouress twist on it lol) If anyone has an idea for a trial in the tower then send me a message either on here or on psn or even send me the trial itself.2009-08-13 22:18:00
