Isn't it amazing...

Archive: 19 posts

I log on to LBP and look at cool levels and see pure crap with 20,000 plays. Hundreds, thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of good levels are hard to find and go unnoticed and the creators of these fine levels disappear, never to be seen again. I check my hearted levels pages to play some old favorites. What's this? There are a limited amount of hearts and all my old favorites are gone?!

Comment boxes are dominated by spam and heart for heart posts. I choose a costume I spent an hour making only to see a red exclamation point. I choose an item or even a level key in my inventory...red exclamation point. I have a quick play session in the hopes of finding some cool people to play with only to wind up with someone messing with his costume for the next 10 minutes in a horrible unnamed level, or constant lag that destroys an otherwise good level, OR lag so bad that I stare at loading screens for the next 5 minutes until the game freezes and I have to reboot my system.

I log on to LBP to make a level, fighting an army of glitches that come in all shapes and sizes while an evil thermometer stares at me the whole time just waiting to slam its foot down on my poor little creation. I publish it, but nobody knows it exists, so I have go back into create, dark matter, republish, create, dark matter, republish, again and again in the hopes that maybe someone will play it. Hopefully, the failed to load level bug won't destroy it in the process. My moon has one level, I hardly have any community items or anything really.....

YOUR PROFILE IS TOO LARGE. PLEASE DELETE THIS AND THAT, AND THAT AND THIS!

Arcas-X achieved a score of 12,000 points on Ninja Time.
Tarzanbuzzyman achieved a score of 18,987 points on Valentine's Day.
TheReaper24 achieved a score of 800 points on Battleball.
Carboniced achieved a score of 10 points on tropheez h4h!!!

Ahh I lost my jetpack!

(Kooyas wishes to join you ALLOW DISALLOW)
*loses control of game in the middle of jump*

Nooooo! It took me 10 tries to get past that part and now I have to do it again!!!

(Notification your level Typewriter Tool has been moderated)
(Notification your level Star Wars Lightsaber Battle Arena has been moderated)

WOBBLE BOLTS

And last but certainly not least, I log on to LBP... I can't connect, 403 error. My pod is different. My moon is different. My inventory is different. Items I deleted months ago are restored and my work in progress level and items are gone. My game save has somehow gone back in time 3 months.

*bangs head against wall, contemplates murder*

Oh well, at least I backed the level up and only lost 3 hours of work.

*goes into create mode*

This is what the LBP experience is like for me. I've been playing video games for 25 years and I've never come even remotely close to putting up with this much crap! And yet, I love it and continue to eat it up with a spoon.

Isn't it amazing...

lol - great post.

There are a lot of members here who will echo your thoughts and experiences. Bugs and glitches will come and go, but the addiction will remain!

Welcome to LBP - it's not a game, it's a way of life!

It's really more of a realization/summary of my experience and genuine amazement of what I and many others are willing to put up with. This game is a freak of nature. I feel like I can do anything. Quick, get the hot coals! 2009-08-08 16:28:00

One thing is for sure.

This game must be the holy grail because i've NEVER EVER played a game this buggy for this long. I have 6 years of QA in a videogame company so let me tell you that I know about bugs and software devellopement.
Normally, if a game is too buggy, I sell it or ditch it no sweat. LBP? The creation mode is so fun that it seems I can pass over the freaking PLETHORA of problems this game is having. Not only that but it's very badly designed interface (the planets and pucks, etc) + it's total lack of community promotion.

Ah yes.... every single level I write I think "This will be the LAST!!! My heart can't take my levels cracking apart, resetting back to what they were days before.... and then when I finally get a level out the door I have to consider the psychology of the entire planet in order to figure out what to expect!!!"

Then I think of another cool idea.....! (just thought of one about an hour ago!!!!! Just when I think I'm out - they pull me back in!!!!!)

The thing is, which would you rather have, a GAME WITHOUT LIMITS, WHERE YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING! (To a point) Or having just story levels and no community content, but no glitches?
With every good comes bad, but sometimes the good is a lot better than the bad.

^I'd rather not have to make that choice!

Haha, makes you wonder if there will ever be another problematic game you just can't get enough of. The interface could be better, but I'm pretty used to it now, plus I like having level icons. It's the closest thing to having your own game cover, but I guess they could completely change the interface and still keep the icons.

I actually don't mind the score notifications.
Most of the players on my friends list have SUPERB taste in levels, so if I'm not playing with them, I'll sometimes follow them to the good stuff. Also, people will sometimes signal me by playing one of my demo levels. Then I join them and nobody got interrupted in the middle of a jump.

actually, I should make a "Swan, Join us" level with just score bubbles and scoreboard for that purpose.
