Hectic HallwaysRickTheRipper You made it to school, now you just have to get to class. But are you good enough to avoid the Hall Monitors? And how will your teacher react to your tardiness? Fonts by: doedoe98 and defcab all This is the sequel to Morning Rush and it's definitely much longer. The level has 4 floors of awesomeness, each one differing from the other. All of the obstacles are different from each other, so no worry about redundency (woooo). Hopefully you enjoy it. The thermometer is almsot at the top, so I'll be able to do minor fixes, but I won't be able to add much. I'll give some feedback First of all the introduction, walking down that first hall is fantastic and i absolutely LOVE your humour! There are so many details you never feel like it seems empty so that's also good. I think you had found many good ways to make the whole school feel more like a real building than a 2D space. The plot of the level worked well and i think you told the "story" in a smart way too. The difficulty was perfect, there are way too many easy levels (like my own) around and this one made you feel proud of finishing. And the book shelves might have been very frustrating for some so implementing the help button was a smart way of making less experienced players continue (But with less pride obviously.) All in all i think this was a great level. There is only one complaint i have, there were some spots where i would get stuck and had to kill myself, but you could easily remove those spots. Two of those spots were the one at the table that helped you jump over the bookshelve and the room with a table in the middle, normal floor but you had to swing on the lamps in the ceiling to get through. In this room i dropped to get the points on the table, and the way you heard laughter in the background was great but maby if you made a very thin layer of gass on the floor or a way to get back up to the lamps it would feel better than having to kill youself from the popit. These "problems" are not really that big and didn't ruin the final impression. From me, it gets :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart for its humour, gameplay, difficulty and details! I would appreciate it if you could give me feedback on my level "gravity" https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=14734 | 2009-08-08 17:21:00 Author: ZaLaN_NOR Posts: 14 |
You know, ever since Nuclear Nuisance I really look forward to your new levels - there's always some great innovative gameplay and content. This level definately doesn't disappoint. From saving the boy from the locker, to the "police-like" hall monitors, to gun fights in the cafeteria, to the high-school-attic-of-death.... the humor, dialog, and sometimes brutal gameplay were fantastic. One thing happened to me that might need fixing... On the part where you grab the things on the ceiling that are supposed to swing you to the left (arms on the ceiling attached to turn-bolts that you grab onto) - I grabbed the first one and grabbed the second one a bit too quickly and they all cracked each other off and I ended up on the floor. Cute looking, difficult, a good length, and great content - 5 stars and a heart. Loved it. | 2009-08-08 18:02:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
im glad you both liked it. in the library, i made the 1st pitfall area a deathtrap w/o the actual death to prepare you for what was ahead (hence the laughing). then i put that table as another deathtrap but w/ rewards because i like to make a little symbolic obstacle about greed. deep, i know as for the swings in the gym, they have a tendency to do that. i wanted to make something besides the usual "sponge on a rope" but unfortunately the game didn't appreciate that. i'll be sure to try messing with the bolt tightness to see if i can make it better. edit: I think I've solved the swing problem and I've also changed the color of the plasma used by the hall monitors. One plane will be one color (white) and the other plane will be a different color (blue). | 2009-08-08 20:09:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Just played this and Morning Rush. Really enjoyed both. You have a great eye for detail! Not a thing out of place. Neat and tidy! Good custom stickers. Was the room with the mouse a secret? I don't know if that was necessary to progress I found it right away. Always great with secret rooms! A bit difficult, but not frustrating. The vent by the conveyor got me a few times before I realized I could just stand on the left of the platform. The first vents looked really good. Very effective design. I too got stuck at one point. In the gym under the thing to jump on (I don't know what it's called, english is not my first language!). The hall monitors shot plasma balls a bit randomly. Maybe there could be some kind of pattern to figure out. I just charged or stood in the distance and fired away until I got them! You're definitely a creator to keep an eye on. Looking forward to more levels! | 2009-08-10 02:52:00 Author: Kipmonlin Posts: 251 |
I enjoyed it, but actually I think it pales to Nuclear Nuissance. Sorry to say that...maybe, being Italian and having a different school system spoiled me the fun of the level. 4 stars anyway. | 2009-08-10 06:46:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
You know me, I loved it. It has a perfect challenge, nice looks (nice but not great) and a loot of humor. May I say, a interesting story, perhaps?? One thing I really loved were all the humorous signs placed everywhere. READ OR DIE!!! The sidequest with the mouse was pretty neat. I would love if there were more sidequest like these in your next level. All in all: :star::star::star::star::star:, heart & hectic Oh and the guy in the lock should look better :/ | 2009-08-10 13:02:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
oh, you noticed the signs. i was starting to worry no one could read them. about the guy in the locker... i tried to make a guy that looked all scrunched up, but doing that didn't leave me much room for detail | 2009-08-10 13:38:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I replayed and enjoyed it more, especially the second part. The only thing that I have to point is that sometimes on the latest part on the "convoy belt" the gas emitted without giving any kind of signs, thus leading sometimes to cheap deaths, since with the timing you may be a bit to late to go the right part of the platform or a bit to early to be on the left part...and you won't know when the gas will spread, since it is all about luck and nothing about planification. Maybe a led 1 second before emitting the gas? Anyway this time I rated it 5. | 2009-08-10 20:43:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
yeah, that gas is pretty hard to see. i added a sound effect for when it's used, but its still practically invisible. hopefully i can think of something to make it more visible. if anyone has any suggestions, fire away | 2009-08-10 23:03:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Hey Rick, nice level you got. I thought the humour throughout was excellent, it find of reminded me of Skool Daze, for the Spectrum and C64 many years ago. The boy stuffed in the locker made me laugh, as did most of the dialogue and events that happened through the level. The gunfight in the cafeteria was good, but the pop cans managed to flip over on me, it took quite a while to get it facing the right way, maybe you could increase the radius of the switch so it does'nt matter which way they are facing. I thought being able to skip the book section was a nice touch, I needed it after a few attempts lol. I did get stuck down beside the trampoline as well in the gym, had to pop to get out. The jetpack section was out of place I thought, and a little lazy, I always hate them when they appear levels, but thats just my personal taste. The conveyor section was also hard, a little to much for my tastes again. I enjoyed the level, I thought the theme and design were good. I rated it 4* and a perilous tag | 2009-08-10 23:44:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
ill be sure to give that soda part a re-look and make the radius larger. oh, if anyone has had the platforms at the conveyer belt get stuck, i've fixed that issue. i didn't know it was happening until i added the light at the gas. sorry about that | 2009-08-11 00:20:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I wasn't able to finish it. I got stuck in the vent part. I can't get down for some reason. Anyways, I lol'd at the beginning part. Really creative, It made me laugh a bit because I wasn't expecting those words to pop up on LBP. It's really original. I like the converyer belt part. Always a good challenge to challenge the count. Hehe. I really like the challenge, The creative design, the originality. I would happy to try it again. If you tell me how to pass the vent part xD. I hear cracking though, lol. Anyways. :star::star::star::star::star: +Heart Author (Would be looking forward for more challenges) +Heart Level Tagged: Brilliant Ugh If I finished it, I could've been on top 1 by now. xD | 2009-08-11 12:09:00 Author: Count Posts: 315 |

yeah, sorry about that. i went and made the platforms at the conveyer belt longer, so i had to make some room for them. unfortunately, messing with the floor made a switch disappear. once i found out, i fixed it. the level is now back in working order | 2009-08-11 13:08:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I played through this level last night and I was happy watch as it grew more and more outrageous. The level starts out innocently enough and the sets are well created and you?ve done a good job on the decoration and design. I enjoyed the clouds in the windows and the fun comments from the different characters. The comments and the situations in the level show that you?ve got a good bent on your humour. Everything plays out in a traditional manner until the third floor library sequence where things start taking a turn for the bizarre. (Not to say that hall monitors with guns in the cafeteria is normal but still for LBP it is still on par for the course.) The school turns more and more psychotic from this point on with the traps and gas and platforming sequence. As a story it is a bit unusual but it made for a fun level. The difficulty level ramped up pretty smoothly in my opinion ending until you get to the very difficult conveyor belt sequence where I died many, many times. (Up until that point I died only a time or two.) The conveyor belt was a bit above and beyond the challenge curve that led up to is and as short as that part was it was still a hair pulling sequence. The other biggest issue that I had with the level was the extremely tight player tracking settings on many of the camera views. There are cameras in a few places, such as the one just before the boy in the locker, some in the lunch room and a camera in the ceiling crawl space just before coming down that seem to have the player tracking set to the lowest value. This makes the camera a fixed one and when I would walk close to the end of the camera view boundary box I started to go off of the screen and started getting the off-screen countdown timer before I manage to walk far enough to get the camera to snap back on me. Possibly easing up a bit on the player tracking can help with this matter. The last thing I noticed is the large discrepancy in the scores between yours and the second place record compared to everyone else's. There is like 10K difference in the score. (14K versus 4K). Are there a few hidden score bubble caches or are there secrets that most players aren?t finding? Maybe all the rest of us are just dying so much that our scores are dropping by that much but I thought it was odd Great work on this level. | 2009-08-11 18:17:00 Author: Trindall Posts: 297 |
there's quite a few areas that give out bubbles if you can finish the obstacle flawlessly. i'll go and check the cameras and edit the tracking (most of them are low) | 2009-08-11 22:19:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Hi Rick, got through playing this last night and really enjoyed it. top marks for: Those security gaurds. The dude stuck in the locker was very funny. The humour throughout was very good. Its obvious a lot of work and thought was put into this level. Putting in the jetpack for players like me who are rubbish at jumping on tiny platforms. Some clever hiding of secret bubbles/areas. Basically giving me 7/8 minutes of fun Things I didn't really like: I wasn't a great fan of the jumping on the books section. (Now I have to say it looked well and its only my preference that I don't really like having to jump on really tiny landing areas. Although you did put in the jetpack so its great to see you realised not everyone will make it up) Nice work Rick hearted! | 2009-08-12 10:54:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Great level, checked it out earlier today. I must say, that was a great level. Good sense of humor and gets quite challenging. Loved the books sticking out. 5 Stars Great level | 2009-08-13 01:25:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
Hello, I just finished playing your level and I quite enjoyed it. Like everyone before me has mentioned, your sense of humor is one of a kind. The first hallway is loads of fun (especially the kid trapped in the locker). I also loved the signs (read or DIE). The ending was great too, and I really enjoyed the rotating electrical circles section. However, like a lot of people before me have mentioned, the conveyor belt sequence is tough as nails. But I don't mind a challenge! I do mind a cheap kill though, and that little pipe of gas really caught me off guard. I thik you could easily alleviate that problem by placing an emitter near it that emits a a flamey or gassy looking object when the gas is turned on. Simply set the emitter to emit the object fast and shortlived(0.1 seconds) and that should make the gas stand out more. Ccubbage used a similair effect in his Destiny!(Hard) Level. All in all though, I really enjoyed your level. It had me smiling for the most part. As for the f4f, I would really appreciate it if you played my level. Clicking on my signature will take you to the thread page. Thanks, and keep up the good work! | 2009-08-13 03:12:00 Author: Frazer951 Posts: 117 |
Finished! +humour +i love the choice of the close camera look +accurate +some point offer a nice challenge +i liked the holes where you can rise with "X quickly",nice idea +graphically good in some zone -...but less good in some other -i don't like so much the character design -the platform/book in the library are too small (specially for the sad jump/land of LBP) -maybe a little bit short Final impression: a funny level, with some nice idea and with an original basic concept. :star: :star: :star: | 2009-08-13 15:50:00 Author: GEK83 Posts: 163 |
Hello RicktheRipper Just had a go on your level and really liked it. Thought it was very funny, loved the signs and little touches, and thought the gameplay was very varied and although challenging, not 'throw-your-remote-out-of-the-window' so. I especially liked the guy in the locker, and the use of books in the library as jumping platforms. I don't really have any suggestions for improvements, the only thing I could say was that shooting the 3rd pair of hall monitors with the paintinator took me a while, due to the fact that it was difficult to get in sight of them without dying. Perhaps a camera zone would solve this problem, but it may just have been me! Otherwise very good! | 2009-08-13 23:27:00 Author: littlebot Posts: 60 |
