A Building tool idea.. *CREATE IN LEVELS*

Archive: 14 posts

You are given certain selectable materials inside a oulined box where they can only be moved inside. You could use this to make puzzles where you need to make a bridge over a gap, sorta like the game "Cargo Bridge". Google it and you will see what I mean.2009-08-08 02:42:00

Cool. Like Lego! And it reminds me of the Lego PS2 games, Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman etc. where there is a set-piece you need to build yourself - like a small bridge, or a ladder to access a secret area. Doesn't ruin creativity like CrazyMario suggests, I think it opens up awesome possibility.2009-08-08 10:13:00

That Cargo game is pretty addicting. The only way I can see this working though is if you created those stuff with the popit.2009-08-08 10:35:00

it would have to serverly limited though. whats to stop people making a beam of metal and using the popit to ram important pieces of the level and breaking them, but good idea2009-08-08 11:07:00

Sounds limited enough to me

It would open up a lot, but surely you could do similar with the jetpack. Although building a bridge with a jetpack is possibly the best example to make me look stupid right now

I like it.

I dunno the pop-it is used as a menu not really a tool as such. It would open up alot of glitches aswell.2009-08-08 16:40:00

Mm had an idea like this when making the game.

In one of the podcasts, Mark Healey said that they had 'creator zones' where you collected materials during the level then used them to solve puzzles and clear obstacles but was scrapped due to too many glitches. (Can the game get any more? )

This sounds really good, but Mm would never impliment it... They have enough bugs on their hands as it is. 2009-08-08 19:30:00

Like MarkoWolfy already said, Mm worked on something just like this for a while. They eventually decided not to carry on with it because it just did'nt feel right. They said something like, 'popit has way to much flexibilty that its hard to actually try and limit it. For example, building a bridge would just end up as one big block'.

The 'creative zones' used a material that sackboy stood on. When he stood on it he had access to some of the create features. Listen to the Mm podcast No. 2, they talk all about it in there. http://www.mediamolecule.com/2009/03/19/media-molecule-podcast-no2/

You could do something to this effect with emitters and dark matter.2009-08-18 21:56:00

This is actually reminding of the level "Sketch World".

In it, you're given a magic pencil (that emits darkmatter), and with it you draw lines to solve puzzles.

For example, drawing a roof over a path so that flaming debris doesn't fall on you.
