Bands you don't like that everyone else seems to like.

Archive: 50 posts

Let's try to be civil, plz.

Let me start with the juicy stuff first: Daft Punk.

Ooh, I know what most of you are thinking, "BUT UCHU," you say, "DAFT PUNK IS COOL THEY MADE AROUND THE WORLD HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THEM?!"

I'm going to be honest, I have tried so, so, so hard to like them...but I just can't. Their music is incredibly boring. Their beats are repetitive, their melodies go absolutely nowhere and their use of samples can get atrociously annoying. So yeah, they're too repetitive for me.

Next up, Nobuo Uematsu. I will admit that yes, he is a good composer and I like a lot of his pre-FFX stuff. However, he is incredibly overrated. People keep calling him a musical genius. He's not. He's simply...a very skilled composer. Musical geniuses are the folks who take music to places it's never been to before and completely change our definition of music, like these guys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerson,_Lake,_and_Palmer), this dude (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlheinz_Stockhausen), this man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Rudess), oh and this man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Michel_Jarre), too.

and last up, DJ Tiesto. Because I absolutely despise generic trance crap.

The Grateful Dead. Everyone around here LOVES them... and I just don't see the appeal. I said that once to a bunch of dead heads in my highschool, years ago, and they tried to beat me up. Aren't they supposed to be mellow?2009-08-09 16:55:00

Daft Punk sample other peoples music, so if you don't like what they do or the samples yu wont like Daft Punk. Aerodynamic is certainly not boring, try that one.

Well I don't like anything with screaming in, it's not musical it doesn't sound nice so what's the point?

I know that. If I had to list all the death metal bands that I hate that everyone else likes I'd have a giant list.

Everyone hates Metallica because they suck. They haven't released a good album in 20 years. And even their good albums suck. And that's obviously my opinion because Metallica is the most popular Metal band...or at least in America anyway.

Metallica had two decent albums: Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. I don't understand all these people singing praises for Death Magnetic, it really sucks. I think their popularity has gone to their heads so they think they can release whatever they want to and people will buy it (sadly, that's about how it works) even if it's total crap. Just throwing that out there.

Death magnetic is the perfect example of "the loudness war" i really don't understand how you can like this

What surprises me more is that fans only noticed it when Guitar Hero 3 was released,
you have to be pretty deaf to not hear that this album is clipped & distorted all over the place

I hate Rap, Hip-Hop, and pretty much anything inbetween. I don't like country much, but I'm used to it (my parents listen to it all the time). Death metal and a lot of emo bands also go down the shoot too. I think thrash is overrated, but I like it in small spurts. Pop doesn't bother me, unless it is one of those Disney channel people or a boy band. I also don't like ACDC, bite me.

And as a side note, I noticed that neither Iron Maiden or the Who on anyone's list.

Megadeth, Tool, Coheed and Cambria, Iron Maiden, Buckethead, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Iced Earth, I even like some rap but I only listen to it in Saints Row 2.

Crazymario, I'm not trying to change your opinion. I was explaining to you why a lot of people have gotten sick of Metallica. You guys are trying to tell me that I'm wrong. There are a lot of 14 year old Metallica fans, too. I hate Metallica, though. The only song I still listen to by them is Call of Ktulu. That song will be awesome forever.

Oh, I also hate Korn, Slipknot, and BMTH.

Linkin Park isn't emo.

These words make me want to put my fist through a wall

Here, let me post some lyrics from one of their most well known songs:

Read this and TELL ME that they aren't emo, I want to hear you say it

Yeah here we go for the hundred time
Hand grenade pins in every line
Throw 'em up and let something shine
Going out of my *********g mind

Filthy mouth, no excuse
Find a new place to hang this noose
String me up from atop these roofs
Knot it tight so I won't get loose

Truth is you can stop and stare
Run myself out and no one cares
Dug a trench out, laid down there
With a shovel up out of reach somewhere

Yeah someone pour it in
Make it a dirt dance floor again
Say your prayers and stomp it out
When they bring that chorus in

I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
Just to throw it away, just to throw it away

This song is a cutters theme song to their life

Oh White Stripes... how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.

While their studio recordings are decent from time to time, they absolutely blow chunks live.

Meg... a drummer she is not. Her meter is horrible, and she's constantly pushing and pulling the song all over the place... or is she actually being pushed and pulled by Jack? She can't even keep time in the simplest of beats like the one she attempts in Seven Nation Army. If you look closely, you can actually see her brain counting out "One, two, three, four... one, two, three, four... one, two etc. etc." My meter was more honed when I was sixteen, and I only started playing when I was fifteen. Meg couldn't find the groove if she was a microbe sitting on an old vinyle 45" of James Brown.

Jack is certainly more accomplished than his ex (though I'm sure she wore the pants in the relationship), but let's face it... Jack really needs to buy one of those electronic guitar tuners so he sucks just a little bit less on stage. I'm betting there are at least two roadies in the wings just begging him to let them tune his guitars. It's a shame, because he actually has some catchy hooks in his songs (even though he can't keep them going live). There's nothing worse than a musician who goes into the studio and multi-tracks himself to death. This is the case with Jack. While playing (and I use that term very loosely) live, Jack constantly drops out on his hooks and melodies to enter into sloppy second rate guitar solo's that reek of garage band shenanigans. He too is contantly pushing and pulling the tempo... Jack couldn't find the pocket if he was tucked neatly inside of it.

Hey White Stripes.... you've got the money now, why don't you hire some real musicians to back you up live and fill in your sound so we hear something close to what we heard on the album. If I wanted your garage band garbage, I'd go down the street and listen to those annoying rich kids playing covers of your songs better than you do!

Here's a tip for any young aspiring musicians out there - if you can't play the parts live... DON'T RECORD THEM!

Don't believe how much their tuning and timing sucks live? Okay... here.

YouTube - The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Live)

Okay so maybe that wasn't fair. It's a big live concert right? They're tired, or pumped up on adrenaline from the rush of people actually showing up and digging this garbage in their drunken and drug induced states, or whatever other excuse we should make up for their playing abilities (or lack thereof). Hmm... I guess there's a lot to be said about the old adage "the masses are stupid".

Okay, this should be better. Live at Much Music... only playing once every 15 or 20 minutes between being interviewed... they should be really tight and rock this simplest of songs here right? Right?

YouTube - The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Live @ MuchMusic)

Okay so I'm sure some of you may disagree with me on this. That's cool, this is just my opinion as a musician who has been playing for twenty four years. Heck I even know one or two decent musicians who defend this band and claim that they are "supposed" to sound like a sloppy garage band. But if you can find me a version of this song where they aren't guilty of everything I've accused them of, you might change my mind... but I won't hold my breath.

YouTube - Mastered by Muppets

Also yes, the white stripes are pretty bad live. Anyone with one hand could play the drums for that and anyone with one pinky finger could play the guitar for that (believe me, I just did... well not the chords but most of it and the solo).

I don't like pop, rap, hip-hop, country, techno... anything that contains too many beeps or thins played by computers with no emotion.

I agree, I USED to like it, but now it's always...

People making a STUPIDLY named dance which is STUPIDLY executed.
Talk about some STUPID topic that doesn't make sense. Example: 'Marco Polo', 'Rubberband man', 'Stanky Leg'...
They always talk about their money and *****es, and talk about their cars.
Overall, repetitive, I pretty much know what every song is about, staring from the Artitst, The Song name, and even the first lyric.

i pretty much dont listen to any popular...and no im not just saying that. iv mentioned my musical tastes before

harsh dark ebm/industrial/aggrotech. hard and heavy black and gothic metal

all this indie, pop, emo, rap, hip hop, dance, hardcore and stuff can go spin on it....a lot of it really does annoy me largely because its famous and doesnt really try, when it does try it sounds alright...but usually no, it sucks

i also cant stand anything quite or slow....quietness and even silence has always agitated me and i dont like it. stick me in a room with with "tranquil" music and ill be in hell

i like my growls, opera, soprano and clean singing all mixed together while symphony and hard metalic sounds tune off in the background. same for my electronic, only more electronic, ha and more distorted electronic voices and all that jazz

but yeah the music i really really hate is pop rock calling itself punk....its not punk, its not even real rock its just slamming a guiter singing about how they are glad to be out of school while they are in their 30s or something....ok very punk -_-

I agree with this post like 150%.

I hate popular music, not because it's popular, but because it just kinda sucks. Listen to a radio station that plays that kinda stuff, and all you'll hear is a bunch of people "singing" about stupid stuff to a bunch of over-synthesized beats.

Also, Mudvayne. For some reason, I can't stand them.
