Sword Power-up

Now we have the Paintinator, a ranged weapon. But it would be cool to have a melee weapon also, killing enemies Zelda style lol, slashing with a big badass two handed sword lol. Also it would come in both one handed and two handed variants. The one hand one deals low damage but it's fast and easy to combo, the two handed one is very powerful but slower and harder to use, and also reduces your movement speed and jumps height by a little bit. Maybe included in creator pack 2. | 2009-08-07 20:29:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |

I had this idea a while ago, i doubt theyll make it that complicated because that would change the game too much but a simple sword and a switch that can detect its his would be nice. My original idea was that it be a foam sword that comes with the FF pack. | 2009-08-07 20:41:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
Yeah it's a good idea but i don't think they'd go into that much depth Just something similar to a short-range paintinator would be good | 2009-08-07 21:13:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
This game isn't about killing things, and I don't think swords will add too many gameplay mechanics to LittleBigPlanet like the Paintinator did. Fighting enemies wasn't the only thing MediaMolecule had in mind when they made the Paintinator. For example, with a sword, can you: Create intricate puzzles (ex. Portal levels) Trigger platforms Move objects that you can't reach Use them as a counter (Captured paintballs make a great counter) Decorate levels Play with your friends (Without killing them) Etc... The Paintinator opened up worlds of new platforming, gameplay, and puzzle mechanics, whereas a sword would be a sword, and only be useful for killing enemies. Of course this is just my opinion on the matter, please do not take it with hostility, as I am simply expressing how I feel. You are welcome to refute anything I've said, as I could just be being closed minded with all of this. | 2009-08-07 21:14:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
True B i doubt it would have as many puzzleing applications, the paintinator stands alone for that, but a sword could have its own usefull features It would be a good way to detect a close range hit that isnt a grab switch, ive been designing bosses multiple times where i wish that there was a way to detect a hit without the sackperson being able to hold on to a grabible material. i could also see it giving sackboy a slight reach increase, like they can hit buttons or switches that are a bit further away then they could normally grab or to hit or move items that have a hazard applied ill add more if i can think of them and i realize that many of these effects can be achieved via the paintinator but part of it is for style | 2009-08-07 21:21:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
It sounds kind of small when you say a sword would only be good for specialised switches and killing enemies, but there's a lot of that! It's probably not something Mm should focus on too much but it would be a really nice addition I'm creating an open-world rpg at the moment and i really wanted a sword for it I had to make it a steampunk rpg though so i could have a jetpack and a grabby sword, but it's still kind of fun! | 2009-08-07 22:31:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
How that going btw dex it seemed really interestng when i saw the thread and im not saying thats the only things it would be good for im sure with the innovation of lbp memeber countless other possiblities could be imagined | 2009-08-07 22:35:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
I've been ill quite a lot recently so i've taken a break from lbp I haven't given up on it yet though The jetpack/sword combo is actually really fun but i think a proper melee sword would be better for a lot of similar levels. | 2009-08-07 22:42:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
i would love a melee powerup of some kind, but every time someone brings it up, most people dismiss the idea. and with a lack of demand, there's no need for MM to make it | 2009-08-08 01:44:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
A sword power-up would be interesting but it would have to have more uses than a slashing blade to be useful. I'm thinking maybe give it the ability to deflect small emitted objects such as plasma balls back at the emitter, useful for an idea where you hit the enemies attack back at them. | 2009-08-08 22:59:00 Author: persona3fan93 Posts: 155 |
lol ye that would be really cool good idea dude! | 2009-08-08 23:03:00 Author: AliBoy1 Posts: 142 |
I'm going to ask that you could use the sword for things like slicing your way down cardboard/sponge walls, and that you could jump from wall to wall, Prince of Persia style. But these are just minor qualms and that's it. | 2009-08-18 21:42:00 Author: Jellibird Posts: 17 |
