Lanparty's

Archive: 3 posts

Hail people, thats the thread for this day... Lanparty's...
its a quite common event that happens almost every weekend... even though you are not a part of it... if its small or big... its still there...
and here in The Netherlands, the Lanparty scene is dying... wich is awful.

the problem is that people say "phuh why go to a lanparty when i can download at a very fast speed in my home." people (especially the younger folk) don't see the use in lanparty's or don't want to go there for a different reason... maybe they think lanparty's are only for dorks and fat people who have no social lives at all.
while that is not true at all..

I have been to 5 large lanparty's now (above 1000 people) and 2 smaller ones (1 with 100... 1 with about ~7 )
and within the 2 years i've been going to them, i noticed almost everything changed... there are just coming way less people than the first lanparty i went to... from 2100 people, it went to about 1500 in 1 year.
Even though... Lanparty's are very social.

Also the downloading/sharing part becomes a big problem... Old people.. are against "illegal downloading/sharing" of software... its true... but erhm.. i won't go to the store and buy photoshop for maybe 900 euro's... thats the cheap version... and what can those company's do to stop it... everywhere on the planet people are downloading... you can't stop it... it must be at least some Petabytes or Exabytes per day.

Now that i gave a little introduction about lanparty's, i want your statement on how you look at lanparty's, if you've ever been to one, tell something about it.
what you like or dislike about them, and about the sharing part.

How did you get from lan parties to software piracy. But I mean comon, who's going to pay like $800 for a program just for like a hobby. If anything it makes you more likely to buy their programs in the future.2007-08-20 20:44:00

because at lanparty's there is alot of sharing going on through DC++.
And here in The Netherlands.. and also in Belgium, they already start to break in to lanparty's because of the sharing... they take your pc and search through it for everything that is illegal...
