3-way switch w/wenches
Archive: 13 posts
Can someone explain to me how to make the switch where you attach one wench on each side of the 3-way switch so that the wenches pull the 3-way switch. I've been experimenting but i can never get it to work. | 2009-08-07 18:11:00 Author: mRbUnNy0 Posts: 6 |
Lets say your using two grab switches to pull it different ways... Connect the first winch, first to the wall, then attach it to the yellow thing on the 3-way switch. Do the same on the other side. Now, have both of their max lengths way out of the 3-way switches reach, and the minimum just enough to pull the switch far enough to the point where the switch can be activated. Then have two grab switches, set to direction, and attach them to the winches. I can't remember, but you may have to invert the switches to make it work right. I never had great luck with winches and 3 way switches.... | 2009-08-07 19:18:00 Author: goldenclaw13 Posts: 224 |
you need to remember to make the winches long enough that they can be pulled over to the other sider when the opposite winch is contracting. | 2009-08-07 19:55:00 Author: redmagus Posts: 667 |
haha you said 'wenches' anyways, make sure you also have elastic attached to the switch so that it goes back to the center when its not moving. you have to have the box that the switch is in with equall lenghts (use grid mode). have the winchs speed on 1 and have the strengh on 5. have the elastics strengh on 4 ( i think the nubers might be the other way round but im not to sure) this might not work the first time but just try tweaking it a bit. Heres a tip: tweak it in play mode so that you can see the effects that the winchs having on the switch. if done correctelly the switch lever should be in the normal positon. if yuo still cant do it PM me and ill send you one. | 2009-08-07 20:13:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |

Or you can use pistons, two on each side, attached to each piston is a small block of wood. Set it to stiff, and have it so the piston pushes the block of wood into the three way switch, causing it to move it left/right. I think it works better then winches. | 2009-08-07 21:07:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

It may well work better, unless both can be triggered at once. In that case, the wooded blocks would be destroyed possibly along with the sponge on the three-way switch and it's completely useless. The winches simply tug against each other if both were activated. | 2009-08-07 21:21:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

Well, the pistons don't need to go thaaaat far, with just a little patience, you can have it so if both we're activated, they would keep the switch in the center. But yeah, it would take a little longer then just using winches. | 2009-08-07 21:24:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

Can't see any difference...both have stiff mode...ROFLMAO!! :hero::star::star: On topic though - you do indeed need to make sure the winches are set to Inverted. With this set, there is no need for any elastic. Hope this helps! | 2009-08-08 02:36:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |

The winches simply tug against each other if both were activated. Make the pistons weaker. I use the winches, and I never have a problem with them. As someone said, attach one and set it to backwards, attach an active directional input and tweak the minimum distance slowly until the handle moves all the way towards the winch. Then tweak the maximum distance so that sackboy can pull the lever back the othre way, then just copy these settings onto the other side. You don't need elastic as the 3-way naturally returns to neutral on it's own. | 2009-08-08 09:42:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
