The Good, The Bad, The Sackboy... Episode 3.wexfordian
This is where you wake up to realise everything you thought was real was just an illusion. To make matters worse you only have minutes to save yourself and the crew from disaster. The level has multiple endings, first person cutscenes and first person gameplay. Have fun

Is there any chance this series was inspired by Red Dwarf...I'm sure there is a very similar storyline in there!

Great work, change of theme and some of the little details were awesome. The dangers were innovative and fitted the theme very well too.

I had a bit of trouble with plane shifting on a few occasions. Mainly the part where there's a circle that spins and you have to grab the yellow and black part of it and throw yourself upto the top. The level of complexity in the layers there lead to it being a bit awkward if you don't get it exactly right, but there's not much you can do about that with the level of detail that has been put into it.

Great work. Great series. All 5 stars and hearted.

WOW!

For me, this is the icing on a delicious cake! Great story twists in this, and some stunning space-age scenery and mechanics! Loved the First-Person perspective in the space ship (which, i noticed, was sackboy shaped!). Loved loved it loved it.

Playing it again right now.

If you don't get knighted for this, the world has gone even madder than it actual is!

Thank you VERY much for all your hard work. Wonderful.

PS - Woah, though, wex. Are you pasting your pictures in here side by side - my screen display has gone to about 8,000 pixels wide! lol )

Wow.... this is the best looking space level I've ever seen. The 3D segments, the use of light, material, and shading... this level is absolutely GORGEOUS.... plus it has great gameplay to boot.

Seriously, this entire series is a masterpiece - and will totally keep everyones interest all the way through.

Nothing much to add. An excellent trilogy with great design as always and great fun to play.

I just noticed jackofcourse mentioned Red Dwarf. I put the same comment in the level comments. Very reminiscent of that. Whether intentional or not that's a good thing.

You've raised the bar again. I really must get cracking with Sheriff Sack 2. I'm never going to emulate your part 1 though. That one raised the bar all the way to the roof. I can't possibly get over that.

Are there multiple endings? It said at the end that I landed on a remote planet. Not sure if I got screwed there or not.

Up to that point it was very well done though. Brillant sci-fi imagery and the 3D part at the start was superb.

I see. The thing about that was that it ended what was a great level on a sour note. To be honest I was a little miffed that I had been given a duff ending simply for going right rather than left. Even then I only went right as I was pushing left and right out of curiosity to see the controls move. Next thing I know I`m told I`d crashed without realising what was going on.2009-08-07 17:10:00

Well, then.... pay attention to what you're doing! .

The entire level constantly told you that you need to go destroy the meteor, and instead you ran to safety toward a planet, thus leaving the meteor to wreak havoc. You should be more than miffed.... you should be ASHAMED! .

Now go back, play it again, and this time show a bit of courage!

Haha yes very good. I pushed left and fired twice, then pushed right and fired twice to see what difference it made and all of a sudden I appeared next to a scoreboard being told I`d done something wrong. I just felt it was a little unfair, with my only option being to start again.

My concern really is that kids and idiots will forget about what went before and rate it down when they get the bad ending.

Oh man!
Maybe this is the best series of level ever.
Wex, if you have done something incredible, from the characters on first part, the awesome train, the cool barrell mechanics.
Then the second level is absolutely oniric, I like that kind of stuf and all the little visual tricks you made.
Then third level blew everything off.
I thought that you had some pain in your back after all the candyK praise, and you showed you have the power to kick real @sses.
15 stars for you man.

The intro is magnificent, really and truly it's ridiculously cool and it's something I actually want to see people steal and take to the next level - a genius idea. Overall a great level, tons of cool mechanics, nice sci fi theme... totally left field way to handle a series conclusion and reminded me of Assassin's Creed.

All the stuff that you added in past the bucking gear mechanism when I had first seen it in production is top notch...

What a fantastic end to a fantastic series! The plot twist was suprising and unexpected, and as already mentioned, it did remind me a bit of Red Dwarf.

The visuals were excellent again, and it was a nice change of pace. The gameplay was also REALLY good, and it had many unique elements. Plus, I didn't get frustrated with this one.

The thing I liked the best though, were the first-person cutscenes, a first in LBP and a more then just excellent effect, and I can say it was my favourite feature in the level.

I'm sorry my feedback for this series is pretty short, as it deserves more praise then I'm giving it, but I found the whole series to be pure awesome.

Overall, :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart...again!

This is the best one in the series! Although it's a fairly sharp turn from the previous two, it's still pure awesomeness! The introduction is like nothing I've seen before, very unique!

I've not bothered to give feedback on the other two levels. This one confused me a little when I read the description. Ship, what ship? A steamboat mayhap?

And then I realise you gone all M Night "what a twist!" Shyamalan on us and it all makes sense lol.

Anyway, this level is gorgeous. The first person sections for the intro and the ending are amazing, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. Then the visuals in the ship with the faked 3D structures. Your stickering blows my mind. I sat there and just took the stickers off for ages to understand how you did it and then I realised there was no real "trick" to it, you're just so **** good! Then I restarted because I had made the level look ugly

The gameplay is good, a little bit awkward in places and for some reason the spinning circle with the black/yellow grabbables wouldn't let me grab it to begin with so I was looking for another route. I doubt that's your fault though.

The "pick your route" at the end was great as well - could you make an entire space adventure out of that do you think? That would be awesome, if a little odd and I suppose it wouldn't get great ratings.

5* and hearted the whole series (probably - I can't say for certain but I'll be going back to check them out again so I'll heart them then if I haven't already )

WOW!!! That was one of the best levels I have ever played! I love the cinematic feel to it. The parts where it's like first person view are just amazing. Just two things again but they're very minor.
-On the part before you put the machine at full power there's an emitter visible
-On the part where you have to choose whether to go to earth or the asteroid, after you choose I think it should go black so you don't see that there's nothing under the sackboy arms.
5 stars and have you hearted as an author. Just an amazing job, I didn't think you could possibly get better at creating but it seems like you have.

I already had a raging..... uhhhh.... yeah.... for your intro's, but this one blew my mind. When the level first started, I actually started thinking you found a glitch to play the level in first person. It was that good (or I'm that dumb). Then your usage of stickers to make those 3D effects was spot on. I kept double checking the walls to see if it actually was 3D or just stickers. And of course the environment looked great and you blended them well with the obstacles. Very nice.

For awhile, I thought Starcruiser was one of the best looking levels. But after playing this, I think Starcruiser might want to step aside.

A couple of things I spotted from my second run through. Some of the black and yellow hazard marking stickers haven't covered properly and you can still see dissolve underneath. Also the doors with the spinning wheel on front don't reall open far enough IMO and it would be nice if the wheels spun first, then the door opened. Just a minor thought.2009-08-09 16:18:00

Ah wow, I'm so glad you liked it. When I first published this trilogy I got a real sinking feeling. Tactical Gunner was giving me lip and I got a few other nasty messages. Now Im not one to be overly concerned about critism, I make levels exactly how I want them. Im not very good at actually platforming. It took me ages to complete the game and as anybody who has played with me I have a terrible habbit of hitting every hazzrd along a levels path This is why I like my levels to be a little easier than most peoples.
Its so good to have the feedback from the people I care about.
I'll go through your feedback and update the level as soon as possible. Thanks again guys.

I agree with the person who said it was like CandyK's level. I however, couldn't make it past candyk's level due to lack of direction, and quit out of it due to frustration.

I think this level was, stylistically speaking, like candyk's but 100 times better, and with much better direction.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!! CandyK IS Wex!!!!

Ok, here's what I think happened.... Wex was secretly building visual ideas under the name CandyK - but purposely throwing in sub-par platforming just to throw people off of his trail - THEN, finally, Wex took the visual prototypes, added amazing gameplay, and released it as part of his Western Theme trilogy!.... which, once again is completely transparent since you're pretty much stoned by the time you reach the third part of the series and can't tell WHAT in the world you're playing anymore!

Do I get a prize?

I thought I'd leave feedback for all the levels in one thread wex, hope you don't mind. I've played them twice now over the course of the weekend, but am just getting round the feedback now.

Loved them all. Excellent mechanics, story, platforming, visuals, etc etc etc. From start to finish the level is a sterling job. I think you are without doubt the best "stickerer" of stickers I've seen, the 3d effects you've created are sublime.

I loved the twist in the story, a really nice way to change up the levels, and it all fit perfectly. You seem to have a way of pushing the envelope, and the first person sections in this series did just that, my jaw literally hit the floor when I saw it, excellent work.

Needless to say it was 5*, a heart, and brilliant tags, all given without a single feeling of jealousy

Excellent work, probably my favourite series in LBP so far.

If there is one level in your trilogy that is truly worth mentioning, it is this one!!
The first person effects are a joy to watch and catch most by surprise, goal achieved there wex!!

All 3 are great & awesome levels with outstanding visuals and Mm-style mechanics (except new).
They do have some multiplayer issues however but in my view that is hardest thing to get right.
Multiplayer can be a *beep* to create for. Especially when you are trying out new mechanics and gizmos like the cogkart.

I do have to say that I will not be playing these levels again for a little while though as I've been kind of smothered by them over the past few days!!

Every pod I join: Hey lets play it again / did you see Wex' new level? / My gawd, you have to see the first person effects!!

I can't count the times now that I have taken the "trip", sat on girly horse or left some sackboys behind while riding a train full of explosives on a huge ramp.

So final thoughts: A hugely entertaining trilogy with a twist to put M. Night Shyami...Shyamalabalan..., oh you know who I mean, to shame.
I gave them all 5 gold star-medals :star::star::star::star::star: and a purple heart to finish it off. Terrific work soldier!!

I thought I was in a movie with the first person part!

- I loved the eye for detail
- for me, this was the one with the most challenge in it
- don't know if we're supposed to, but we're able to walk on those um, things, right after the part where you have to put the power to the maximum.
- the part with the checkpoint behind the vent...how did you do that?
- sackboy ship

said before, but the first person view is one of the most impressive things i've seen on LBP

I played this recently, the first person part was amazing and very original. The obstales were all fun and it was very cinematic. Good ending with the multiple choice, I saw people complaining about it in the comments about the desert island thing but I played both endings and found the desert island to be a funny idea. It just occurred to me.... comparing these three levels is like comparing an apple, an orange, and a banana. Even though its the same series, the 3 levels have so little in common visually or conceptually it's hard to compare. Very cool idea!

That actually gives me the inspiration I need to do Splat Invaders III. You suddenly wake up to find out it was all a dream and you have to make your breakfast. However, the different items of food need to be found in different parts of your house.

Now, im not normely a good reviewer so im going to say what i LOVE.

Episode 1: Im not normely a wester'n fanboy, or western cowboy films, etc, but this one made a exeption!! Well made very well made.

Episode 2: Im not normely a spiritull fan, but this one made a exeption too! But when you go into the hut, the thing comes up too fast, thats all i dont like!

Episode 3:
Wow, change of story? Very nice! All the logic, mechanics, timing, etc, etc,
Then i was like wow nice..
And then the part where you have to do the astrioid thing, i choice the right thing, and then i was just holding R1, And it was like, Uhh dissolve material with magnetic switch's, i expected more from this part tbh, then i expected more after that, But there it was, finished i was like, umm meh.

Im being honest

Im to lazy to post the diffrent things in the diffrent threads

Sorry - I'm late with my comments - crazy schedule in my real life lately.

So of all three levels this one is by far my favorite.

+first person (sackboy) perspective in the opener is amazing.
+ twist in the story is great!
+ design of the level is awesome
+ some of the mechanical platforming areas are just blowing my mind
+ subtle use of 3D glitch is brilliant
+ choice at the end is great
+ ship design made me laugh - very cool idea
+ it's fun!

Can't think of a negative except some layer issues where those presses are but it's easy enough to get through it, well, those and the fact you can't crank one of these out a week. I'd love that

5 stars & hearted. Wonderful work yet again. Thanks for consistently making excellent levels to play (feels like ages since I sent you that OMG - someone stole your Matrix level PM doesn't it! lol)

Just finished playing all three, what a great trio of levels. What struck me most is the great twists you put in to make even the most standard of platforming a little different from the norm, some brilliant ideas there. There's a nice physicality to your platforming too, great stuff.

I think my favourite moment from the entire series was in Part 2, the sparkles that emit as you jump over the canyon were such a subtle but great touch, they put a huge smile on my face.

Some fantastic character designs & cut scenes, especially the intro of Pt 3, just brilliant. Kudos for publishing them all together too, 3 levels on page 1, and deserved!

hehe, I saw that and laughed. I got a mail from a certain well known character from MM about the level. Needless to say I was delighted he took the time to messsage me about it.

It just occurred to me.... comparing these three levels is like comparing an apple, an orange, and a banana.

This is exactly how I wanted it to be. The story is the only thing that really ties them together. I don't think it would have worked as well if they all had the same feel to them. you would get bored pretty quicklly I think.

Its also down to the fact I get a little impatient sometimes and have trouble sticking to just one idea..... too many voices going on in my head

+ subtle use of 3D glitch is brilliant
(feels like ages since I sent you that OMG - someone stole your Matrix level PM doesn't it! lol)

A few people have mentioned this 3d glitch but I havn't used it in this level at all

I did mmake a point on this level to make use of all 7 layers wherever possiible.

To be honest I think a lot can be achieved with the layers given if used wisely.

Thanks man, This is also something I really wanted to push in this set of levels. I love physics based levels and I really wanted to have a shot myself at making them. I've probably had the most fun building these levels than any of my other ones. Building these levels has really made me think more about terms of gameplay.

Thanks for everyones comments. This site rocks when it comes to getting good honest feedback.

Wex-

You are truly a worthy and notable creator. You achieve what we all strive for; yeah plays and hearts... but what I'm really trying to express here is Unique Artistic Expression. A trilogy related only through story... 3 levels all with their own unique style, all have their own pacing and individual mechanics. All are startlingly original and true to themselves. Because of their originality, there are sometimes problems... (the cog-cart comes to mind...here) but to be honest the little frustration I felt could never wipe the smile off my face. Thank You so much for such a unique and encompassing tale.

Like everyone else before me has mentioned, your use of first person was spectacular! I was especially thrilled with you use of perspective to give the illusion of 3-D without using that glitch system, and your level looked all the better for it. I even liked how you made the spaceship that you escape from during the end sequence look 3-D from the outside as well by making the lights become smaller as they get closer to the edge.

Your wonderful use of perspective is reason enough to heart this level, but the level itself is loads of fun too. I liked the look of the computer system that talks to you throughout the level. I also really liked the air lock doors that you go through, although I think you should make them open further to let the player pass through easier.

That was really my only gripe with the level. Fantastic work!

I don't know if you are doing f4f any more since you have so many posts to go through, but if you are and if you have the time (again, I understand if you don't. I didn't post a review just so that you could review my stuff) I would appreciate your opinion on my level "The Adventures of the Prince: Chapter 1 The Attack". Dude, I just played through this yesterday. This series was incredible. I love the progression. The first one is a highly-polished but otherwise true-to-genre western, with all the western staples. The second one, still complete with Clint Eastwood icon, ends up being nothing more than a trippy vision journey, an extended desert hallucination.

And then the 3rd one is a sci-fi space adventure?? How many series out there essentially do the same level over and over?? This is brilliant. I want to hug these levels. Some of the best stuff I've seen in this game, and such a great tone. You've really, really nailed how to do tone in LittleBigPlanet. There's no trying to squeeze square pegs through round holes here. You've got a total handle on this game.

I played this series a couple days ago and was really blown away by some of the stuff you did with it. The story was interesting at it had a great cinematic feel. The first person was ingenious and extremely cool!

Most of my criticisms have already been addressed by other members, but I at least wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the series! Well done!

Most have said what i already think but to just knit pick, the 1st two parts were not exciting too much for me as i play those levels a lot but, i loved where you was going with it and the 3rd part was great and a neat twist!

Design was great.

It may have nothing new gameplay wise but, that ain't a bad thing if you execute things well and you have.
