Yay! I'll be excited to see what changes, if any, you've made from the beta. I really enjoyed the original Lost Ages, so I'm excited for this. Will play it tomorrow as soon as I can. 2009-08-06 23:27:00

Yay, it's out. I just played through and had a blast. You've been given constant feedback from me, and I only have one more: I would block off the ability to play through the level again if you haven't already. The checkpoint took a few seconds to pop up after the outro, so it could be confusing to some, as the outro says "There's just one more trial" or something.

I'm mad at whoever gave it a two star, so you'll be glad to know my 5 star and heart have offset this a little.

This level is a must play for any hardcore platforming fans, and it's sure to give you a bit of challenge

I love the Lost Ages levels! They are beuatifully made and the puzzles really make you think. That green rocket thing (whatever it is) really suprised me when I grabbed it hehe. What I like most about your levels is how the three dimensions are used. It just feels perfect how it's layed out.2009-08-07 03:01:00

Yeah, this is the reason why I'm going to publish my level later

Anyway, happy to play this level later on.
I have really good memories of Lost Ages: I, even if I remember myself swearing at the cam settings.

I loved the first one, but this sequel makes your original level look like child's play in comparison... the look of this level is great, it harkens back to ICO... the originality and orchestration of the platforming is just ridiculously perfect. There are so many new and interesting ideas here I don't even know where to start... and anything that isn't new is done in a totally fresh and inventive way.

I absolutely adore those flipper sponges and the wheels with the dangling sponges... and those little launcher things. They're all incredible little inventions and used perfectly.

Diggin' the story, and I love how long the level is, and how things gradually got darker as time went on. You took everything that was great about the original and ramped it up two fold, and tamed down the camera issues from the first alot (I never was bothered by it before, but I can see the improvements either way).

5 stars without a doubt... incredible fantasy level and some amazing work.

Massively cool and huge level! Very hard is an understatement!

Loved the huge castle with intricate puzzles neatly hidden into the gameplay to negotiate a path to progress.

I loved the flipper sponges though dang.. if you screw up on one and left dangling, you are toast!! Liked the launcher things as well as the windmill sort of dangling swingies that popped down and had me constantly jumping just a second too soon to my doom!

As Joey stated, this was one of the funniest most hysterical times I have had on LBP. We laughed we cried we cursed your name!! I seriously have no idea how 4 players even got close to completing! As I was telling them after the 50th or 100th time I died that I really wish you had put scenery in the background layer for the decent to the horrible gas as I think we spent more time seeing that than the rest of the level!! Maybe like a billboard, a newspaper and flipped the page for us or something?!! LOL!

It was funny.. we had each other laughing so hard that I almost dropped my controller.

Really cool level.. loved all the visuals. If I had to nitpick, I would ask to put a few more portals here and there as it was horribly sad for us to almost complete a section and have to start over! NOOOO!!! waaaaa

I have to come back and try it single player once my nerves have calmed a bit so I can give you a well earned heart and ample amount of stars.

Good work and thanks for playing my level and leaving comments!

Mhhh...entering...only 21 plays but 5 stars....

Well, after almost an hour I've finished the level.
I gave it 5 stars, an heart as a creator and skipped the tag, since you put a lot of work in the level, but actually this is not a level that I would reccommend.
I'll be sound quite harsh in telling what I think.
Obviously it's my opinion, thus it could be shared or not.
The level looks very detailed and original but I find it disastrous gameplaywise.
It has really cool and original contraptions/mechanics, but the way you use them makes them cheap.
You make them with the intent of being extremely punishing, so they aren't an addiction to gameplay anymore, but more a subtraction.
Everything is tuned quite to the millisecond and the awkward cameras are there to do everything but help the player, in my vision they should add epicness and dramacity, not complicate your gameplay flow.
The checkpoint are infinite but they're placed too distant from the previous one.
The latter part of the level can be a nightmare that makes you throw your pad and send you the worst 4 letters words to you.
And in that part you overuse those mechanics, making the player think: "No, please, not that s**t once again", since it doesn't matter if you master the mechanics, but the index fingers begins to ache and the patience starts to vanish.
The level is very long, and it's a good thing if you don't get frustrated, but in this case it's certainly not a bliss.
Then at the end, you reach a chamber where you have to place a sticker, but you must understand it without any kind of tip, just out of luck...or nonsense...I myself don't know.

What I want to point with this rant, is that your level, in which you put lots of effort, is FREE, it's not something that you pay and you feel compelled to finish it at all costs.
People probably will return to the pod after some cheap deaths.
There' no point in making the level so hard except the one to appeal only to hardcore gamers or masochistic people, and actually I can't understand it.
You should really consider that people may put your efforts to shame.

Now, since I'm not a b@stard, I'm a gamer and a wannabe good creator, I rate it 5 stars, but if I would have been a reviewer I would have destroyed this level, since the last section it's on the verge of unplayability.

Sorry for the rant man, but I had to say this.

Played it.

This is a very challenging level with awesome ideas and beautiful design. Well the part that makes it the most noticeable is it's length, it took me over half an hour to beat it.

I just love how you implemented the platforming. You should try and make a Shadow of the Colossus level cause the looks and the gameplay reminded me every step of SotC.
The other thing I loved was the atmosphere. I constantly had the feeling as I was alone with all the machinery and houses. You achieved that with the camera angels even thou some were a little bit... not helpful.
My favorite parts of the level were the little houses and the bridges. Don't know why.

Suggestions:
- I think you need a better icon for your level
- The movie scenes with the pictures, on every one of them you could see the background to the left of them. even just a little but you could see

This was a fantastic level with a great challenge and length. I can't wait for the final part

:star::star::star::star::star:, heart & tricky

Oh and it's a blast to play it with two players

Running through this with four players was the highlight of my week. A marathon of laughter and defiant "Nooooooooo!" as we fell to out deaths time and time again. Those flip platfoms with the sponge underneath = killer! They are hard as heck, not impossible, but so unforgiving! You get one shot or your heading for the gas. lol Oh sure - I can laugh about it now but last night it was a mixture of insane laughter and gritting through the frustration. I think that's why I love this series. They are work to get through and you don't give an inch of easy at any point from the halfway point to the end. Even the last jump is a pain and there's no checkpoint so if you toast yourself you've got to descend all over again.... That's one place I really REALLY would have liked a checkpoint.

All the psychological issues I had aside - I loved the level. It looks great, so ICO and the extra rods as scaffolding look great. The windmill sections are fun and are so cute. I'll be back to try to take this on 1x as I had some help with the 4x group I played with.

5 stars & hearted. Thanks for bringing another quiet but killer level to LBP!

@OmegaSlayer: no worries, man i appreciate your honesty. personally, i agree that the level gets a bit derivative, but i was kinda modeling that after a certain genre where you tend to see the same obstacles just arranged differently... its a hard thing to balance and i will admit i am not an expert.
i really appreciate that you rated the level highly even though you did not enjoy it.

also i may have tweaked some cameras between the time you played and some of the others. i will go back and see if i can make them more friendly.

@blizzard_cool: i tried to make icons that showed the materials and some decor for the levels but in the button you cant see any of it i will probably give another go at making some good ones.

@Morgana25: thats some determination! i suppose the company of good friends really can be a blessing. ... but the theme of this series is loneliness.

Kudos!
I finish the level, so it means that somehow I enjoyed it.
I ranted because I'm afraid that not everyone will be determinate to end it, and will return to the pod rating the level 1 or 2 stars, and that's a pity.
Actually I don't understand the reason to make a level hard on purpose. That's all.

I played this level this morning and was going to give you feedback but had to go out for the day, but you beat me to it, when I came back home you had posted in my F4F thread.

I had a few hours to dwell on the level and now I have also played part one. I gave you an author heart. These are some of the best levels I have played. Challenging but stunningly beautiful. They had better be. If I'm going to spend 40 minutes in a level to complete it. And part one took me even longer, I did both races.

I fell to the floor in the lower left part of the level. Probably just a fluke, I think I grabbed something in the back layer and got flung downward, there was no gas to kill me so I had to kill myself. No big deal but you might wanna check that. And also I got trapped in one of the things with a rocket on it when I landed violently once, had to kill myself again. They must be hollow?

Awesomely crafted level, but just maybe the gas is a bit of a cop out. Could the danger be more seamlessly integrated in the landscape? I saw a corner of gas when I fell somewhere. Like two squares were put diagonally next to each other. Since we spend so much time falling the gas could be as perfected as the structures are.

The hardest part for me was the 180 platform where I had to fling myself upward. A bit annoying to step backward a layer each time I respawned to try again. Could we get to just run straigh ahead and try again?

I love how the platforming feels like a puzzle. Looking carefully to figure out what to do next. Great to see a level that isn't littered with speach bubbles telling us what to do! Few creators have made levels this compelling and this is a masterpiece. Thanks for the experience!

yeah the arrow launcher things (even i'm not sure what theyre really supposed to be) are hollow.
they are powered by an emitted rubber ball fired from one end of the hollow to the other at a high speed.
there is a tech demo level out there for the emitter engine (thats what it was called) but i dont remember who made it.

i guess i was relying on the railings to force you to auto shift onto the ledge layer. does this not work reliably?

I would almost say that if you're a hardcore LBP player, then this is the level for you. When I finally managed to get to the scoreboard after deaths possibly around the triple digits, I felt like I deserved a silver trophy for it. This was possibly the most challenging level I've played in LBP. The level itself was beautiful, with towering pillars and wooden contraptions, it was very reminiscent of ICO, perhaps moreso due to the lack of music.
The level seemed to be designed to be non-linear, though throughout most of the level I knew exactly what I had to do and where I had to go. The section where you needed the basket to get inside a building managed to be a refreshing break from this. I'm glad you changed the rotating grab platforms to remove the fire, it helped make the level less frustrating than similar sections in the beta.
This is a beautiful level that provides the player with an immense level of challenge. However, for those who dare to brave it, you're rewarded with a sense of accomplishment, before moving on to figuring out how to pass the next obstacle. :star::star::star::star::star:

Absolutely brilliant. Nail bitingly hard in places, but when you finally do work your way across the to the next bit of safe ground you feel like you've earned it!

The plane shifting was really well done, even when you can't quite see where your next jump is, you feel it's by design. The cogs with the sponges and the flip platforms are so deviously placed, and the torch (?) that you grab in the later sections to fling you around the level, a great touch.

There's a definite Ico/Sands of Time vibe going on once you get to the upper sections, i don't know if it was intentional but I loved it regardless.

I'd echo that the gas below looked a little out of place, you could just thin it out and make it a colour more cohesive with the level, but thats just a nitpick that has nothing to do with the gameplay.

Fantastic!

That is something else! While playing part 1, I was thinking how it reminded me of ICO (a game I love) but in this one I REALLY thought so! especially when you pull the fog back to reveal a background of structures really nice!

I only have two little worth-while bits to say from a beta-test standpoint:
1- I think you could use a check point just before the second grabby flying thing. I realize there's one just after, but it's a blind jump, those things don't always fly the same way twice, and the player has just battled through some pretty tough and time-consuming obstacles.

2- on the castle afterwords with the big hanging fire-cauldrons, you can circumvent most of that challenge by just jumping down form just right of the check-point.

Oh, there is one thing that really ticks me off about this level: I'M ALL OUT OF DEFTMUTE LEVELS NOW!

I started out with another player, but she wimped out (no sense of adventure, that one) just after the cave where you have to cling-jump across the ceiling to the next platform.

I especially loved the sponge you get from the hay loft. That's gotta be the longest banana trick I've seen to date!

Since I'm a strictly mediocre player, and I made it. I think the difficulty is just fine.

I gave it :star::star::star::star::star:, hearted it (now I have the whole set) & tagged it ingenious.

Playing this level and the one before it actually took around 90 min. They're so long, fun, and challenging. I love it. The visuals in the first one was pretty good but this one is a lot better. I really liked the small doors and the way you used the flag poles as an obstacle. In fact, I liked all of your obstacles. In the first one, it got a little redundant, but in this one they're much cooler, so it doesn't bug me as much. My favorite part was probably the windmills. They were challenging, but not as hard as the rotating platforms.

My main problem with this (and the previous) level is the camera angles. They're far out, giving you a good view of everything, but it makes precision jumping pretty tough. I think that having multiple cameras in an area would make it easier to see where to go/how to do it.

Last night, I went through with two other players of stead-fast fortitude, who did not whimp out like the last person I brought with me.
I thought it would be a hassle, but it turns out the flippy sponge things are Halarious with 3 players! we spent an hour there, talking smack, and foiling each other's efforts.

The little flying things were fun too, but we ran out of them, and were forced to abandon castle.

Also, I don't know if it was lag or what, but we found a flaw in the section just after getting the hay bail from the loft, where you have a zip-line sort of set-up behind chicken-wire. We managed, some how, to rip the anchor right off the top floor and onto the second floor. we were able to manipulate the block just enough to fling the bunny one of us onto the next section with the switch.

those are supposed to be infinite, but you are the second person to claim to run out. i will investigate.

Just replayed the level and this time it just took about 10 minutes. Why not a race in this one too?

I checked where I can get out of the level and I took a picture, it may not be there for long I see the level stuck on the cool pages now. It's right under the first wheels. On the lowest part I can grab the back layer and hold left and drop down to the ground. I saw the scoreboard with two pistons on dark matter near the ground (just so you know I'm honest).

I saw another thing. After the first arrow launcher thing under the 180 platforms there's an upsidedown L-shaped thing in the air just off screen. What is that? I can't land on it!

There's some complaints about the camera angles, I don't get it, I thought they were really good.

My previous comment on stepping back a layer when respawning by the 180 platforms turn out to be incorrect. I realized I didn't have to. Sorry.

what kind of leaf? the thin layer leaves all have their own dark matter staple.... also which ground? i did a quick scan of the level floor and ran through the bottom section but didnt notice anything.

somehow after i fixed the hole you found part of my gas disappeared and people started posting pics of the floor
it was easier to find and fix though.

It was on the ground of the whole level, not a part you built. Somewhere in the middle. Thin layer leaf that can be seen in the level. Maybe there is one that can fall down during gameplay? I assumed you dropped it when making the level.

I just completed your level and I have to say that I loved it! Although, those little turning platforms and I have a love/hate relationship lol My only grip was some of the camera angles - but they weren't horrible. Great job - I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I felt a sense of accomplishment at the end. I also liked how you end the level right where you began - nice touch. The sounds were great - some of which I haven't heard before. I also liked the option of skipping the story in the beginning - great idea. Overall 5 Stars and a heart!

Edit: Almost forgot - I didn't think you could have put the level check points in better places considering the level design. I felt like once I completed a certain challenge, there was a check point waiting for me - which was very nice considering the difficulty of some of the challenges!
