Bouncing ball

Archive: 7 posts

Hello, for my first level I'd like to make a pong remake but not in an electronic way as I've seen in the community, just with materials. For the bricks ... I think it will be ok but I'm wondering how to make the ball bouncing exactly like in the pong game ?

Anybody to help me, please ?

There are a couple ways. You could simply make it out of pink floaty and then have things all around the field that bounce the ball, or you could do this (sorry in advance for the poor illustration):

Blue - A piece of dark matter or something stable that won't move
Green - A normal piston. This will move back and forth to simulate the left-right motion of pong
Red - A block of something, most likely glass that is placed on a dark matter track to make it more sturdy and stable
Orange - A zero strength piston with a min and max that allow it to go to the top and bottom of the playing field
Pink - Pink floaty, it should have a magnetic key somewhere on it.

The ceiling and floor should have pistons that activate when the ball is near and bounce it back up or down. If you have any other questions, hopefully I can help you.

I've made a similar mechanism but even in no delay mode, my pistons seems to have a pause when they arrived at their limits. But I haven't try with a zero strength piston with pink floaty.
Does the green piston set with zero strength too ? Do you think it'll solve my problem of delay ?

Anyway, thanks a lot for the quick answer and for helping me. I'll try this in a couple of hours.

The green piston moves on it's own, so it has to have strength to move the track and ball back and forth. I can make you an example if you want, because I'm not sure what would be causing the delay. What you can add in is a state switch that changes the direction of the green piston when it hits a paddle.

EDIT: That's actually the problem now that I think about it. The ball is trying to go to the piston's minimum and maximum, which means it has to go through the paddle, thus the delay.

That's the point I think. I've tried to put a spring so as to avoid the delay but it still there grrrrrrrrrrr

For the way's changing direction, I've already made a mechanism (took me 5 days argggh) so my only problem (for the moment lol) is to have a correct move of the ball, because the delay causes a "S" path instead of a "Z" path.

I'm keeping to think about this. See you.

Finally, I did it (to be honest it's my boyfriend who tells me how to do it lol).

See you.

So did you sort everything out? If it's all up and running, what did you actually do to get it to work?2009-08-06 21:13:00
