Destiny!CuzFeeshe
http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv309/CubbageC/Destiny/P1010027.jpgHow Brave Are You?

You're suddenly awakened from hybernation in your Cryo-chamber and informed that a huge mysterious storm is about to destroy your spaceship! You must flee at once by surviving six areas of the ship that have gone all wonky... pausing only to collect energy (ummm.... point bubbles).

This level is the result of a whole bunch of wacky ideas I had.... could I build an entire level floating on a big conveyor system (without everything falling apart), and at the same time implement a totally new scoring system and some original gameplay?

The answer is a resounding YES. But is it GOOD? I'll let you decide.

What are you releasing it right before you go to work so you don't have to agonize over how it's doing while sitting in front of the TV? That's all part of the experience, and I'm disappointed that you are taking the low road on this one... [/sarcam]

I'll check it out first thing in the morning, even though I've already played it a dozen times.

Yup. Loved this level. Loved the challenge and frantic pace of trying to destroy everything and get points all the while the menacing sound of impending doom draws closer and closer in on you. This level DEMANDS that you play it more than once. Excellent effects, gameplay and ambiance. Go play it people...10 or 15 times. :star::star::star::star::star: <32009-08-06 04:41:00

Well, I played it, but got disconnected, so your 5 star and heart are going to have to wait. I already gave you a ton of feedback during testing, so I'm going to be lazy now...

Great concept and great level.

Really nice level!
You knew how to make it feel original again and as I always say, that's what I like when I play a level. I want to see and play stuff I never saw and played. Your 6 parts are great except I would have liked to have score for the last one to and have the choice to enter the escape ship at the last moment.

I positively suck at the shooting parts and would really need to practice to get better. The level in overall is a bit hard on my pacemaker. Kudos for the nice backgrounds and your storm is simply fantastic and actually scary (probably because of the sound effect -- such a classic one it triggers exactly the right feeling in the brain!)

Overall I love it and I truly hope I won't keep the top stop for long because this would mean there's a SERIOUS lack of skill in the LBP userbase

I silently followed the evolution of this project in the other thread, and I'm caught by surprise by this early release.
The problem is that I have nearly 8 hours of work before playing it

I really like this level, very original! I haven't seen a do-a-series-of-minigames-while-racing-the-clock type level like this before, and I must say I'm quite impressed.

I was always torn between staying and getting higher multipliers, or running away as I watch the approaching storm. The first time through some of the obstacles didn't make much sense to me (in how to play them effectively). I played through twice more, and it's interesting how different strategies for getting through without dying come to light after you've tried the stage a time or two.

I really liked some of those wacky ideas you put in. The laser one, for example, seems almost impossible at first sight, but very simple if you aren't killed off before you can see it.

Oh, and don't worry about your highscore Ranger, I beat it both my second and third times through. Looks like it's someone else's turn to nab the top spot.

Cool!

Your 6 parts are great except I would have liked to have score for the last one to and have the choice to enter the escape ship at the last moment.

The way the level is engineered prevented this, unfortunately - The escape in the spaceship at the very end required 3 layers, so the spinning planet blocks it from moving. The part just prior was between the movement stopping and the escape part. That was a concious design decision I made from the getgo.

I played through twice more, and it's interesting how different strategies for getting through without dying come to light after you've tried the stage a time or two.

Yeah, I love the scoring system on this game. Thinking up the "scoring" was the first thing that inspired me to design it. I could think of a bunch of different strategies for getting a higher score. So, I first built the empty sections with the scoring, then put the obstacles in.

OMG! so hard but really cool, we beet it in the second try

Interestingly, in the beta players said it was hard but everyone seemed to have a problem with different sections. I, myself, have a problem with the 4 big guns with the brains in the middle. Everytime I walk into that section I'm a bit apprehensive!

Managed 2nd place on my 3rd or 4th run through, though i don't think I'll stay there for long. I love this level!

The scoring system is perfect, once you've run through a couple of times and familiarized yourself with the challenges, it becomes another challenge in itself, as you can make choices depending on how well you play each time. Its that freedom to play the level your own way that gives it such re-playability.

The gas idea is another thing i really love here, that foreboding sound is so great at letting you know your time is nearly up.

Its probably my favourite survival level on LBP so far!

(Just a small thing i didn't notice in the beta, the flaming rocks have a tendency to get stuck on the see-sawing platforms, one playthrough i couldn't make it off the first ledge because a couple of them had lodged themselves in the way.....)

Hmmmm.... I'll run home and check it out over lunch. That's really strange - I completely deleted, removed the lock, and published so I don't think anyone else here would be able to play it if it was locked.

I did MOVE it next to my other levels. Try looking up @Cuzfeeshe and showing more by the same author. It should be grouped with my other levels such as Splat Invaders and Vertigo.

I think a bunch of people are missing this puzzle, so I slightly changed it this morning. The flaming rocks are supposed to get stuck sometimes. There's a gun at the bottom of the section that you can use to shoot them - I moved the gun and changed the camera angle slightly this morning so it would be more visible.

Yeh, i know there's a gun, but the rocks jammed on the first platform from the spawn, so i couldn't get to it. There might be another way of getting to it, maybe i just didn't see it. If there is another way, just ignore the comment!

The bottom of the level is 2 layers thick and the meteors are 1, but I went ahead and moved the gun so it would be away from the falling meteors - I got the feeling people could get confused. You should, upon spawning, be able to drop straight down.

Weird.... I'll run home and check it out. If it is locked, I have no idea how I did it. Morgana would have had no way to play it at all if it was locked when I initially published. Probably something I did. .

Yeah, I just checked the level. It is indeed locked. I played it last night, so I can confirm it is in the same location the unlocked one was previously.

Just a small note. I was super confused when playing it the past couple of times by the fact that sackboy cannot stand still when wearing the jetpack. I thought my controller was doing its own thing whilst I was gathering bubbles. Now that you've mentioned the whole level moves into the storm, it makes much more sense.

Is it locked on your moon? Could be the same issue I had when I accidentally unlocked a level I published, but in reverse. It was locked on my moon, then uploaded locked, then I moved it on my moon which unlocked it. I then re-uploaded it and it was uploaded unlocked.

On a plus note, you're already ont he cool levels forum I'm sure whatever it is you have made deserves to be here anyway though

We just finished playing through a few times and some things were brought to my attention.

1) I suck
2) Grant sucks
3) It at times is not mp friendly. Often, one of us would die and not respawn until after the next obstacle. Sometimes one of us dying would mean the score bubbles didn`t come out, sometimes it had no effect. There were a few other occasions with both of us dying early and not getting a second chance, while at other times we had 2 or 3 attempts before being moved on. With the level being so complicated, I suppose there`s not much to be done other than leaving a note in the level description.

Mp problems aside, it`s a cool level that does some stuff I haven`t seen before. The creeping sound of doom is just excellent and really builds tension. It looks great and offers a wide variety of ways to remind players that they suck. 5 stars and hearted.

Yes, I totally agree with the multiplayer stuff - the level title is "Destiny! [Hard - 1 player]" .

Although it's POSSIBLE to play with multiplayer, the entire mechanics are based around 1 player. The idea is that if you fail to pass an obstacle, you don't get the points. So... when a player falls through the checkpoint at the end of a section it automatically destroys the point bubble emitter. This means that with multiplayer BOTH of you have to survive to get the points.

I played this with Wex about a week ago and we kept separately dying and destroying the point bubbles on each other! It was fun, but our score was TERRIBLE.

I expect this to result in either a) people getting mad at each other or b) people getting mad at me.

What did it do to break? Morgana told me about an issue with multi players at the end if someone dies before getting on the escape ship. I fixed that one.

That's what he's talking about. If you die but your friend makes it to the escape pod, when you approach the scoreboard all the dead players respawn and fall to the floor repeatedly.

Ok - finally got a minute at work to post. Loved it! Managed to grab the #1 slot with my alt account (although briefly I'm sure.)

The visuals are classic CCubbage. Excellent color (the blue/red combo I've come to love from you but now - introducing green! lol), cool lighting effects (the fire, the storm, the asteroids in the background - wow), the sound design (OMG - the layers of sound effects on the storm is crazy creative and psychologically ominous - it sounds alive), multiple and very different challenges that require different skills (I love the four brain gun part - I had no trouble both times I ran through, but can we talk about the 4 guns with the beams in between - there I'm hopelss so far), and the cinematography of the opener with the pan of the ship mirrored nicely with the escape at the end - great visual impact and style there.

Not much negative I can find in it other than when I played last night I didn't notice the gun for the fire platform room until the 2nd run through and since you've changed it - it doesn't really apply anymore. I did get a little frustrated that I couldn't get a second or third shot at some of the challenges because of the storm taking out the checkpoints (awesome job wiring that up - I hate when you respawn continually in a gas choked area on some levels with the creeping gas challenge) but you designed that part of the gameplay into the level intentionally as part of the challenge and frantic feeling so I can't say it's a negative - more of a motivator to do better as a player I guess. I do wish there was a little more to it as I just sort of get ramped up and into it and it's finished. Thermo probably wouldn't allow any more or you would have added it I'm sure so just take it as a compliment that I want more.

5 stars - hearted (natch). Between you, mrsupercomputer & MrsSpookyBuz I've had a fantastic few weeks of awesome levels to play. Thanks for sharing your unique sense of game design with us yet again. Now when is MM gonna figure out you are most certainly royalty! Thanks CCubbage!

Hahaha. Yeah I hate those guys

I've played once. I don't have time for another go today because I have other commitments like the pub, sadly enough. To be honest, I'm very much not a fan of levels that require you to learn them before you have a shot, and this falls largely into that category.

However, the sectioning of the level, and the fastforwarding on failure does a lot to counteract that. Even when you fail a section, you are too distracted by the next section to really think about it.

On top of that, I'm compelled to love anything that is unique, engaging and so well executed. It's clearly a 5* level, and hearted, and I'll be playing more tomorrow to get a proper feel for it

This level is too short.

Just a note on length.... I agree and would have liked to make it longer. But, the fact is that content-wise this level is LONG - The issue is that you travel through the content so fast that it seems short. The playable level is the ENTIRE width of the create area. There is not one inch of wasted room. Each section falls to the bottom of the level as it disappears offscreen. (it's kind of funny to watch - the entire level just piles in a big random heap on top of each other as they are shuttled off to the left)

Of course, even if I had more horizontal room my "Separate objects" thermo is about to overheat. Since the entire level isn't glued down, it all is affected by physics and therefore I can't possibly fit another section.

However, the sectioning of the level, and the fastforwarding on failure does a lot to counteract that. Even when you fail a section, you are too distracted by the next section to really think about it.

This was definately calculated. I wanted players to be able to achieve a high score simply based on the merits of the gameplay they're GOOD at and not feel like they got stuck.

I played this one again this morning to try to get a higher score, maybe one that will last. After all, if I'm going to try hard on a survival/minigame challenge I may as well do so on a really good one.

The spinning hexagon you have to put the little spheres into is the one I have the most trouble with, I still haven't devised much of a strategy that works quickly for it.

The plasma shooting section gets me randomly from time to time as well, darn random section >_<.

I jump and get the brains section seems somewhat variable as well. Occasionally the brains open in the top, and other times the bottom... but always the top with my luck.

I'll come back and try to beat my score again after work. My new score is 57,220, but I skipped a bubble section that I didn't need to, so I should be able to top that by quite a bit under good circumstances.

Oh yeah, you might consider putting in an Ace reward. It's not too easy to do, but shows that the player understands the game and has played through it a few times.

Ok, for anyone that wants to know a few creator tips on this level:

Section 1 - Easy enough

Section 2 - Spinning polygon - Don't forget to use the boost (x) constantly to get the keys and get back up to the top so you can drop them into the colored slots. Fastest path is 1,2,4,3.

Section 3 - Spinning lasers - The lasers always first sound a warning and display a white light - then shoot a beam that kills you. Shoot at the laser perpendilar to the one that is going to fire at you so there is no chance of being hit. If you aim perfectly there is always time to completely destroy a laser before changing direction (but this is difficult).

Section 4 - The 4 turning turrets - Based on how long it takes you to get to this point they are always in the same position. Hang in the middle and wait for the best opportunity to hit the brain. Sometimes that is jumping up at the brain, other times you can fall and hit the brain - bouncing you back up. Try not to drop onto a brain right before it turns.

Section 5 - The 4 corner cannons - If a plasma is shot at you, don't forget you can LET GO of your gun. This will allow you to be more agile in getting out of the way. Then, quickly grab and start firing again. Concentrate on 1 at a time because this section gets easier with each cannon you destroy.

Section 6 - The broken catwalks - make sure you grab the gun to shoot the meteors.

Well....its nothing short of awesome. Another super addictive and challenging level. It defintetly has your style and look and to it. I had a blast single player, and multiplayer (probably more so). My greed for points keeps me right on the edge at all times, me and Matt had great fun trying to find ever more ingenious ways of getting the points from each other.

I've given you feedback over the last week or so, so theres not much to add but rating and whether you got a heart, which you can probably guess. I don't know why I typed anything really......

*****, hearted, loads of tags which were all good. Its a shame theres no "more addictive than crack" tag, that would be a perfect way to sum the level up.

Oh, and don't believe Matt, he sucks way more than me

Okay, King Cub, here we go...

Not too much more I can add. I was fortunate enough to see a very early concept version of this way back when we were just about Den Sister and Brother!

(NOTE: Just before I begin, my comment on your level failed to upload. It was humourous, curt, cheeky, and took me bl00dy ages to type out too! Grr!).

So, Intro: Flawless. 'Nuff said.

The urgency and sheer panic is what I love about creating, but I was on the receiving end with this level. Jeeez..! Classic palm-sweater!

Okay, cut scenes over, let's get it on... RUN... where's he put the gun? Aah, it's there... I can't reach the platforms.... oh, YES, made it... red light... BUBBLES BUBBLES... aah, the gas is still bl00dy coming... gimme a break... okay... next, wtf! Aah, getcha, zoom, zoom, drop, drop, aaargh, missed, it's dropped out... GAS (ptcheeeuuw - death!)... Okay... jetpack, check, big mutha of a grab-gun, check, shoot WHEN, aaargh, GAS... Q-U-I-C-K, nooo, SHOOT 'EM!... (ptcheeeuuw - death!)... darn it... (just time for a quick drink of...) NOOOO! Next room... what the... oooh, done it... BUBBLES BUBBLES... Breather time? You've gotta be kiddin' me, right? Grab the spotlight... burnt my backside on the Emitted Flames of Doom... there's time to try again... aaargh, you bleeping, bleeping, insane BLEEP... Even when you fail a section, you are too distracted by the next section to really think about it.

This was definately calculated.

I know it was, and that's why I like it I followed the other thread a little bit so I knew your intentions, but I would have known anyway: your attention to details and subtle psychology is something very apparent in all of your levels, for those of us looking for it It's one of the many things that make your work stand out.

69,180. Phew...

I think I'm done trying to get higher. With perfect multipliers at each section around 4000 more points should be possible, and another 14,450 if you manage to get every energy station. I maxed on five and didn't die during the level, but I'm not sure if maxing on all six can even be done.

As far as your tips, I'd like to add two points.

I think there are better ways through the hexagon part that what you suggested. My personal fastest way, although you have to be timed almost perfectly, was 1, 4, 3, 2. Or something like that. You can get the purple right as you enter the room (timed correctly for the first stage), the put the blue one straight in as it finishes its circle, but it's not easy. An easier to complete fast was would be 1, 3, 4, 2. Or something like that.

A tip of my own for the fifth section: Your gun is both a gun and a shield. If you see a turret shoot straight at you, turn your gun and shoot at it. Your gun will block you from the shot, and you can keep doing damage rather than running from your gun.

Cool level, but I think I'm done going for the highest score possible .

Ahem {clearing throat}

Destiny translated by CuzFreeshe, is how many ways to die in an hectic interplanetary mishap and race to get off a space ship. Really wish I had packed my toothbrush too!!

Action packed hectic madness in a wonderful spaceship hit by a Colorful Cosmic Cloud. Which by the way is one more C than in CCubbage.

Totally awesome level. I have been such a great fan of Splat Invaders as well as Vertigo, but this time they twist, collide and fuse into an adventure race minus the start and end gate. Wow.. freeeeeking awesome and so fun as well as panic stricken to play.

Pros. Everything..
Lighting, graphics, prop pieces, falling catwalks, machines of death and mayhem and unlike some other level I know personally, you can actually get off the ship in 1 episode!! Loved the chilling sound as the gas crept up as well as all the mini games in a row with a constant theme of RUN YOU SILLY SACK!!!

Cons.. I horribly uhh.. (refraining an off color word) did not get a good score and found myself wrenching the controller like playing the latest MrsSpookyBuz level while being caught in a blender, but like they say.. "I'll be back" and posting a much better score!!

Easily 5 stars and a heart. Congrats.. awesome Awesome work!

Yeah.... You had a great score (I think it was #1 on the previous publish) but I had to republish, unfortunately. Some dude got a scary high score a bit ago. I'm gonna have to practice it more myself...

This level is awesome, man. The gun sections are my favorite, the looks are amazing in parts... the lighting in general, the ruin platforms, the opening area, the intricately detailed gun sections, the moving background, flying meteors through gas, the ghostly glow of the storm cloud... just awesome. I like the rotating turret sections the best, and what you did with the plasma balls as paint switch triggers...

I love the feeling of panic you have the whole time, and I have to say it's unique.

The sound use is Godly. I can't say it enough, and I sometimes think I appreciate quality implementation of sound even more than I do quality visuals since so few people do it.

I had some trouble playing with others because they would respawn or pull the camera, but whatever... I'm the last person who can complain about that, and we still finished with a decent score.

Thanks! Yeah, I was definately going for a panic feeling. I figure there are so many great creators here now, I started trying to differentiate my levels through unique gameplay.... some of you guys are scary good at visuals.

And the multiplayer was definately never a concern for me with this level - these mechanics simply don't work as well with multi-player.

I had a few goes this morning. Took a go or two to realise how the scoring works, but I'm... yeah, sometimes :/ Anyway, one thing that occured to me was that I always had enough time to sit under the bubble fountain at the end of each section I successfully completed. I was wondering if the bubble fountains could be made infinate, so you can really wait until the storm is upon you before moving on.

I have a strong suspicion this is all part of your plan and it might have something to do with preventing artificially fast forwarding (thus completing a section early) then completing the next section and rinsing the fountain there. Maybe?

Did any of that make sense?

I have other feedback that is simpler:
Awesome (still)
The first section with the gun is waaaay harder than the second section with the gun, for me at least
With the burning rocks that fall on the platforms, I didn't know there was a paintenator the first time... Not sure how obvious it is.

That's all for now.

Exactly - if each section was infinite the only scoring strategy would be to compete ALL the sections as quickly as possible and sit at the end collecting point bubbles... once you understood the challenges you could get a million points without ever having to face the storm. By making each point section finite, it forces you to stop and collect them for as long as possible based on how long it took you to complete that section.

The first section with the gun is waaaay harder than the second section with the gun, for me at least

The first one is actually much easier once you figure it out - there's practically NO chance of getting killed on it if you are shooting the perpendicular laser to the one that is currently about to fire. The 2nd one has those plasmas shooting everywhere.

With the burning rocks that fall on the platforms, I didn't know there was a paintenator the first time... Not sure how obvious it is.

I definately don't need it to be obvious. When you walk into the room the camera makes sure it's in plain site as long as you are looking around the room carefully to figure out how to solve it. I'm not as concerned with the kiddies on this release, so I'm not going to worry about things being obvious - as long as it can be figured out.

If I want a popular level, I may resurrect Tiger Woods for another level next.... .

Yeah those darned unobservant kiddies.... and me apparently. TBH it could well have been on my first go the storm was pretty near and I was more just panicked thinking "argh what do I do next?" - see platform, jump on platform, die by rock, skip section. I'm sure it isn't really a problem at all.

I know how to do the first one, I'm just not very good at it

I played it 5 times earlier today...took 2nd (i think...unless i got bumped) someone had 60000+ pts on it though, which means he completed either all of them or missed one. (i always get ALL the bubbles after part#1 (i think the high multiplier is way more important than dying once as far as overall score goes...hmmm) so then I flub up the cube every time, and go right to part 3...shooting each turret clockwise...ya know what...id better stop there LOL...I don't want to get all BradyGames on you...haha2009-08-08 03:18:00

For my first place run I was able to max out 5/6 of the bubble fountains without dying on any of the challenges. I think I can beat my score by a few thousand at least, but I think I'll wait until someone pulls ahead of me to pull out all the stops .

I don't think that the paintinator matters much in the last platforming section. I haven't actually used it at all there yet, but I've had good luck just burning myself on the rock, which bounces me up onto the platform without a problem.

Couple interesting tips..... The multiplier IS much more important than hitting all the point areas.... and the points are timed so that if you IMMEDIATELY get the first bubble and don't miss any, then manage to stand under then the entire time, the multiplier hits exactly 17x.

So, yes MiltonTPS - it is possible to hit quite a bit higher score than you have now. But, your current score is mighty impressive.

I'm just about ready to admit my lack of dexterity! Or, more accurately, this level manages to TAKE my dexterity off me.

I just KNOW that I can complete each challenge, but this level asks the question: "yes, but can you complete them with a Wall of Blue Death chasing you?"

It's very well balanced, but I'm sure my heart-rate rises every attempt I have, and nerves take over.

Credit is due for helping me lose a few pounds in perspiration over the last few days!

Mr Cubbage, at this moment I love you and hate you in equal amounts!

I won't lie, this level kicked my sack. I think the only obstacle I completed was the 2nd gun part, and that was with the gas only a few inches from melting my face. I would've gone back and kept trying, but man did that make me feel like crap. Here I thought I was decent at this game, but nooooooooooo, you had to go and turn my world upside down. Thaks alot!

I didn't get to spend too much time with each obstacle, but from what I did experience, they actually had depth to them and required practice to do properly (like your description said, ZOMG). I'll be playing this again later, but for now, it's time for sleep. That's right folks, that top spot is mine! You hear me?! MINE!!!

Tell you what, when I first thought of this level I was thinking "Does this REALLY belong in LittleBigPlanet, and what is it going to do to my rep as a creator?". I was pretty much hoping to at LEAST get a 3 star rating after I ticked off the entire younger generation..... But I'm glad your feelings towards me aren't 100% hate at this point.

I've actually been too scared to play the "republishing' game with this level.... I'm a bit scared for the general public to play it.

The first play through this is an embarrassing string of dying in various ways, unless you happen to have made the level. It's a learning level, and you can only really learn to play it with a few tries doing different things under your belt. It's definitely worth it though, it would simply be cheating this level to give it only one try.

To answer your question though, this level definitely belongs in LBP- it's amazing. I'm not sure that the general player would be willing to give it a few plays through and learn how to succeed, so you're probably right to hesitate before resorting to the 'republishing game'.

My top score has been untouched for a while, feel free to bring it down Rick .

I like how even though you've published it a few times now the highscores are still dominated by LBPC members....

Edit: I've given the level another playthrough, and decided maxing out all 6 bubble fountains is indeed possible. I'll try and do it when I'm knocked off the top spot. Ah fine, I'll try it a few times now...

Edit2: Yes!! I've completed an ~almost~ perfect round! I maxed out every bubble fountain without dying! The storm was on my tail the entire time, but it never claimed me. Haha, that was far more heart pounding fearing dying at the end of that round than the other times I've played. I did miss I think one bubble from each of four fountains, so my score is still beatable... Good luck everyone! -86,900

Well, it's not really my level for SackCast. I made a copy and allowed them to 'hack and saw' it into something slightly different! I didn't see it before they published it. And even then, I told them I was exempt from the competetion, so the score I posted was just a guide for people

As to Destiny, your score really annoys me in the nicest possible way. I get the heebie jeebies every time I play the level. It's not an excuse, but last night I dreamt of a large blue ghost chasing me and it was NOT pleasant! I've calmly taken to realising that this is a level for the iron-nerved players. I will continue to play it, but more as a casual space tourist than for any challenge on the top ten.

You should try playing it without the sounds, perhaps then the storm will be less heeby jeebyish? I wouldn't consider myself iron-nerved by any stretch of the imagination, but for some reason the storm and challenges don't do much to shake me up. To be honest, I wasn't too serious while playing on my last highscore. On my 69k run I was really serious (aka, restarting if I didn't get the 17x multiplier the first two challenges), but I was mostly playing around until the end when I realized that I could get a high score that round. Strange.

I'm probably just used to the storm, I was very frantic on my first playthough! Well, when I realized that the storm was actually coming anyway (I thought it would just be a timed challenge until the room started to glow).

Nobody will be too disturbed by the storm though, (I'm looking at you The Descent swing).

I'll go with the title:

a. "Destiny" sounded like a great name for a space ship in a game that
b. Kills you a lot ("you meet your Destiny")

Thanks, Sara! I really appreciate that you liked the visuals (especially coming from someone as good at visuals as you).... I was finally able to play this last night and I was amazed at the improvements you've made since the beta version that I play tested a week ago. The visuals and lighting have been improved greatly and I loved the new look of the gas! The glow that it has was extremely cool!

The little additions you've made, like the visible paintinator switch on the bridge or telling the player to wait for the briefing, work well and I really think it will help prevent confusion and will keep the player running!

Nice work!

Thanks! The lighting change in the gas was me trying to do your "flashing light" suggestion in the beta. I tried the flashing, but it didn't quite look right so I took the magnetic keys I already had in place and just switched them to speed.... when I saw the results, I thought "Wow.... I have to say I absolutely love this level. Its fast paced, solidly built, inventive concept, well lit, oh and I got 2nd and 4th place Woohoo! (jar_jar_baloo is my "leave me in peace" alias ) I think the reason this works so well is the fact you allow the player to move on throughout the level even if they get beaten in a certain section. This completely gets rid of frustration building up if you end up dying in the same spot 10 times in a row.

Nice work. and hearted! twice

I'm afraid Cub you now have to remove **Spotlighted!!!!!! Yeah!** from the post.
We unspotlighted your level due to a lot of complains.

What I really didn't like about the level was the fact you didn't make it frustarating. I don't want to finish this level if I suck! Why put me on the next section - I'm only gonna suck more at that one.

Hated the ending - the spaceship was too well done and the escape was too cool.

Also only six challenges!!! Garbage

1 star and a Lousy tag.

Ahh.. that makes more sense!! Directional would probably show red wires. Speed mags on lights as well as sounds can do some really cool things. You will have to check out my character contest entry when I unlock him (hopefully later today) as I have a singing robot! I don't have any normal jukebox sort of player to do it. ...Then again, I never do much of anything normal!!

MrsSpookyBuz unseated me from my top 10 score and I need to revisit, but I think I need a new controller!!!! Actually what's funny is my girlfriend was talking that we may have to get a 2nd PS3 and move the bedroom or office TV to the living room!!! How sick is that?!?!

Maybe if you took notice of the pitch of the scream your 7 year old makes when he plays it? Might give you a hint.

Yeah, I take note of the fact that he likes EVERYONE'S levels better than mine (he does like Splat Invaders, though). He's actually my barometer for what to expect when I release.... it doesn't seem to change the difficulty of my levels, but it certainly helps me get a good grasp on how popular it will be to the general LBP audience. If it's so hard he refuses to play it, I don't republish much.2009-08-10 15:49:00

See? I designed the perfect level that has something for everyone.... everyone will be ticked off by at LEAST 1 of the sections!

The "electric spinning polygon of death with 4 keys thingy" is actually the easiest one for me - the "huge 4 spinning laser thingamadoodle with brains you have to kill after jumping into the middle" thing is the one that gives me the most problem... I get a small knot in my stomach each time I enter that room.

The "jumpy, jumpy....shoot the fireballs....jumpy, jumpy" room and the "grab on the gun and swing like a madman" rooms are where i get my points...2009-08-11 16:17:00

Ooooh yeah! I love the "grab on the gun and swing like a madman" rooms. When I built that mechanic and tried it for the first time I knew I had to build 2 rooms around it!2009-08-11 17:23:00

The spinning hexagon used to annoy me, and still does sometimes, but once you get used to the order it's not too bad. Now it's the four plasma shooting cannons that annoy me, by killing me towards the end of really good runs .

You should make a competition when/if you have enough experience

Thanks, I definately have enough experience - I did a competition with my level "Vertigo!" which is another addictive arcade-type level, which is why I didn't do one this time - it still seemed a bit soon to do another contest.

Wow, this level was amazing! I loved the idea of the gas chasing you down these corridors of death! I also really liked the effect of the flames shooting out of the pipes in the last section of the level, and then later on the spaceship.
Great stuff here!

After about 3 hours, I've place second on the scoreboard. I was soooo close to a perfect run!!! Yeaaargh!
Do you know if the first-place holder had a perfect run? It's so hard to do the way the sensors are set, but I guess that's what makes the 1st place that much harder to get

...I hate you Ccubbage. Stop making good levels.

No, the first place wasn't a perfect run.... it was pretty darn close, but some bubbles were missed.

Over 80,0000 now, people keep getting closer and closer. Maybe it's time to up my score agian?

Playing just a moment ago, I had something of a scary revelation. The 50 points it gives you when the creature brains of respawn points are killed can be multiplied if you happen to be getting score bubbles at the time. Unfortunately, this means you can only get the top score if you are very, very close to the storm...

I just wanted to say this level is pretty awesome. Nice job on using the plasma to activate the paintinator switch. It's so much better than just straight up paintballs, no?2009-08-14 07:59:00

Hmm... I hadn't thought of that... sounds pretty dangerous, though. When it gets that close there's not much room for error...

Heh.... I definately like the sound of the paintballs hitting (so you can hear how well you're doing). Had to mount the switches on the level section so you could hear them.

I'm always trying to figure out alternate gameplay styles - grabbing and spinning the turret around to shoot sounded really cool. I already did the 'shoot straight up with the paintinator' thing to death with the Splat Invaders series.

The plasma balls to activate paintball switches is used to great effect in a couple of spots in Battle Bugs 2: you have a paintenator and NPC allies who are firing plasma balls at the same targets, awesome dynamic.2009-08-14 13:12:00

You haven't claimed it yet, have you? I'm off on vacation, and haven't and won't be able to touch LBP for a little while yet, so you might say the top spot is there waiting on a silver platter...

I'd really hate to have to try and get a higher score though, I tried the other day, and having to restart because you've missed one single bubble on the 5th section is painfully embarrasing. Well, just as long as you don't get the perfect score I should still be able to retaliate. Then again, if I manage the perfect score, Mr. Cubage will probably put a single bubble at the end of the level just to spite me .

Naw... that would be too fair. I'm gonna stick about 30 point bubbles in there just long enough to get the high score - then I'm gonna take them out again!

Seriously.... I can't touch your high score....

There are so many things about this level that make it stand out as one of the best levels on here that I could not even begin to explain all of the reasons why and still do the level justice, but I guess if I plan on reviewing something I will have no choice but to try!

I loved your idea of the ship being taken over by some strange storm in outer space. Everything about the gas was perfect, from the color to the layered sound effects that resonate from within. Hearing that noise made me get so nervous that I would become flustered and usually die (which happened to me quite a bit). So basically, one of the main gameplay mechanics was handled perfectly.

I loved all of the mini-games as well. Yes, they were tricky but they were still loads of fun and there is nothing wrong with being challenged in a video game. I loved the spinning gun room and I thought that play mechanic worked wonderfully. I also liked the last stage of the level, where you are swinging between flames that shoot out of pipes. I loved the effect you attached to that, the flames look amazing, and they look very good coming out of the space ship as well.

I have no complaints about this level. I have played it numerous times now (still no closer to getting 1st place then when I started ) and still enjoy it greatly. Great work!

I don't know if you are still doing f4f, but if you are I would appreciate it if you gave my level "The Adventures of the Prince: Chapter 1 The Attack" a try. The link to my thread can be found by clicking on my sig.

Glad you liked it! This kind of difficult arcade action is kind of a "trademark" here with my levels. Another one that will get your blood flowing is "Vertigo!". Although, it might also make you dizzy.

I will absolutely check out your level this evening. I always do F4F (eventually I remove it from the thread, but I'm a big proponent of F4F here).

I know to expect arcade action with your levels but man, you sure know how to make em!

This was one to make you panic and get your blood pumping.

The designs were awesome and the puzzles were great.

This ain't a criticism but, with each room, the tasks were different but the last one where you have to shoot the guns that shoot the bigger red plasma was an extension of the gunning task that came before it....not a criticism its just, i was like, "Man! what tasks next" and was excited to figure out a new task whilst under a timer and it felt familiar. Its a serious nit pick but, it was so well done, i noticed stuff like that!
Not a big thing at all.

Great arcade action if anyone ever wanted it.

Yeah - the "grab the gun and swing" seemed like such a cool mechanic I decided it would be a shame to only use it once. It was just a lot of fun.

So I decided instead to change the surrounding challenge to make it a bit different. Also, the jump on platform and shoot segments were similar.

Glad you liked it!
