Solidplace - SEMr_Spoonylegs
http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee357/Yarbone/Eenfoto_12-1.jpgSooo... yeahhh. This is just my level Solidplace but, improved (atleast i hope it's improved ). The begining is completely new, there's an extra secret and another section added + a lot of improvements. It's basically all platfroming and some puzzling. I tried to keep it clean looking. I hope you all enjoy it!!!
all
I thought it was worth another thread since it took me so long to finally finish this >_<

Oh hell yeah! I'll be on this as soon as I get home

edit:

OK, played it and for the most part I like the way you've seamlessly expanded the level. THe original is one of my favourite levels still, and pretty much all of the original content is brilliant. THe only thing I would suggest is that you add in infinate gate on the section with the moving glass block - I hate that section, I literally can never do it until the checkpoint is flashing and the pressure is on.

On to the new content. Well the level has 17 plays (2 of them me) and before I played you had a rating of 2 stars and noone on the score board. In honesty, I think this is because of the first puzzle. It's one of the more complicated puzzles in the level and you don't ease the playes in at all. I tihnk this is going to have a negative effect on the level's ratings. Don't get me wrong, I like that puzzle, I just think it is more suited for a later part of the level.

The only bit of new content I had issue with was the blocks that slide out of the wall in sequence. It's kinda tricky and if you fall you have to wait for the whole thing to reset. I tihnk that could do with having the bottom one come out again when the one a few ahead comes out, if that makes sense. I found myself getting bored waiting for the section to reset so I could try again.

Oh and in the section where you have the two cubes, one needs to go down past the spinny thing and the electro crushers and one goes to the left to get a secret - I got trapped in the platform as it rises back up after you get the secret lol. Minor issue, I just popped myself.

Anyway, I've given it 5 stars and a heart - you've already got a creator heart

meh, i feel really bad about it having 3 stars now

anyways, I think you're right about the puzzle in the start, maybe i should give the player some hints, because i'm gonna change it; it's impossible. :/

Thanks man.

But 3 stars T_T wow.

It's not impossible, it's a prett cool puzzle actually. It's just not instantly clear what you are supposed to do, so it's more suited as a mid-to-end level puzzle. I tihnk the original intro to solidplace was better as it had a little puzzle but was very easy on the brain Then you ramped up the difficulty once you had the players captivated.2009-08-04 20:27:00

Yeah, i guess i should've put that puzzle somewhere else. That's why i was thinking about putting an intorduction section right beneath the current beginning. I've been thinking about this, but it'll be really hard >_<

Explain the puzzle in the description
I didn't play the first version so I'm going to turn on my PS3 to play it NAO.

EDIT: Played it once.
I find all the puzzles quite simple, but I got p**sed when the first green piece of sponge was uncannily destryed by the first lift on the right...

I'm playing it for the second time.

hmm... I was already aware of that problem, but I don't know how to make an emitter that emits the sponge again when it's destroyed :/2009-08-05 00:13:00

Well, it's no problem Yar, since the door opens only when that sponge is useless.

Many jumps are at the sackboy's limits, but are good anyway.
The only con that I want to point out is that many times when you have to move the "sponge switches" you have to pull/push them through really high steeps, you should really make the steeps softer, even because it's pointless to have them so high, since it really breaks the flow of the level.

Anyway, clean and wonderful design, a lot IKEA inspired , I'm joking but I really like it a lot.
Very good puzzles, I hope to try soon the 2x section.

5 stars and a heart

I don't know if steep is a word, but it's wonderful that a Dutch and an Italian understand each other using English words in random mode.2009-08-05 09:13:00

I changed the part where these blocks slide out of the wall, so you don't have to wait that long.

and... i still have to find a way to make the beginning a bit easier. I don't think i made the right choice to make that puzzle there. <_>

Yar, the first puzzle is not a problem at all.
Don't change it.
I'm not good at puzzles, but your levels was a slice of butter, really.
I had more problems with the jumps in the column with the spikes than with all the puzzles.

Nice! I just noticed this, and I'm a really big fan of the original. I'm gonna check this out tonight. This was one of those early levels that felt really original.2009-08-06 11:21:00

Great level, I really enjoyed it. As someone who have a hard time coming up with puzzles I'm very impressed. The difficulty is just right, only jumping through the spikes moving up and down got me killed a lot. The style isn't really my thing, but it is so polished I shouldn't complain. I can see how some players may give up and leave if a block breaks or if they can't yank it out of the deep hole. Maybe you should learn how to emit new pieces.

Hope you can give my F4F level a run.

Ok... I think i can give some feedback to the peoplez who gave feedback here tomorrow.

Meanwhile, if you think ANYTHING looks a bit odd, or just you know doesn't feel good with the flow of the level just say it. I will take a look at it. I would really appreciate this kind of feedback too

Awesome, awesome, awesome, and awesome are the 4 words that come to mind when having played this level. I had never played the original, but this level was ripping good fun. I must be brief because I'm supposed to be packing for my trip, but...

5 stars, heart, creator heart (you've impressed me a few times now)

Edit: w00t... 50 creator hearts for you, sir.

I haven't played the level yet, but I know a solution to the sponge block destruction problem if it hasn't been resolved yet.

I had the same problem in a level I was designing, and after a bit of tinkering figured out a solution. I put an inverted magnetic switch with a really wide radius and attach it to an emitter for the block. Then, I placed the magnetic key on the block, so that when it was destroyed, the inverted switch would spawn a new one.

I hope that helps.

...hmmmm...

Thanks anyway

notes on hardplace -se: - only a few really minor issues found.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg You fool-proofed the first green block, but not the third (red-light key) block against (clumsy/destructive) players, but this early in the Level, a re-start is not such a big deal. I'd say either boath, or neither. especially if you're hurting for thermo.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg There's a place where you get to shove fabric spongy squares off a ledge onto a spinning wheel on the second floor. I really enjoyed that! Kindof wish there was more stuff to throw into the pit, but that's just me.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg There's one spot just before the spiky-wall, where the checkpoints seemed sparse (compared to the rest of the level), but probably only because I was actively checking.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg Just after you jump over an up-down wall with spikes on top, there's a jump over a green-lit pit of spikes. The camera here is a little jerky.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg I really liked the rotating fabric drum fling thing with lights behind it that rotate the opposite way!

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg Haha! I tried to toss a fabric block down stairs...DENIED! By a big metal chunk of wall. nice player guidance. I almost would like to see a caption; "NO.", Just to be funny.

The skill curve was unusual, but nice. Your cut-scenes were well placed. never popping up at an inopportune moment.
After reading the other reviews, I'd say the the first puzzle is just fine. it slowly and calmly trains the player and gets' them used to the mechanics of the rest of the level.

I gave it 5 hearts, and hearted it (good add). I would have tagged it "puzzler", but I got ticked off at the stupid, stupid random tag selection. (what could they have possibly been thinking with that?)

once again, Happy birthday!

found this lvl through comphermc's hearted list... I think i played this before a while back (quit early for unknown reasons ), but I gave it another go, and WOW! This level really had me thinking pretty hard...it really keeps you on your toes wondering what kind of crazy challenge lies ahead...I liked all the different lit 'key' aspects of the level...

Didn't think the visuals matched up well though, but thats not what I remember the level for...it has very nice thought-provoking challenges at every corner...nice job overall!

I had played this level a while ago (pretty much right after I got LittleBIGPlanet), and did not realize that this thread was about it. Guess I was thinking a bit slow at the time...

Anyway, very, very fun to play, and has very nice challenges.
