Prequel to Alien - Ridley Scott Directing

Archive: 16 posts

Anyone else heard about this? I'm a big fan of the Alien series, even the forth one which was a bit naff so I'm kinda excited they are returning to it. Especially with Ridley Scott back at the helm.

Anyone else love Alien?

I am really excited for this project as well yet I fear this will never really happen in the end...

But if anyone should be bringing the Alien franchise back, it's Ridley Scott.

A prequel would be really interesting, considering there's so much backstory that was never fully explored. I would prefer having a film with multiple xenomorphs though, preferably with some new breeds to spice things up. 2009-08-04 13:46:00

Wow-ser! This is big news...

I love Alien the movie.
I love Aliens the sequel more.
I love Aliens3 for its creepy creepiness. Who doesn't love a trilogy?
Winnona Ryder!?! Judges rulings should never interefere with Hollywood casting and really? Winnona Ryder. Gosh, I love her voice... and who doesn't enjoy a good quadrology?
Alien 5. I love this Idea! No Sigourney? Uh-huh... Soooo, No Ripley? What albatross? Well, lets introduce fused clones to time travel and get her in this one... really... Ripley is so fused to these creatures (pun intended!) and their eradication... It should somehow be her responsibility for their discovery or introduction into our known universe.

I however do not want any acid quill-shooting xeno-porcupine half-breeds... I want alien(s) and in limited numbers... maybe a lifepod or hive sent out kinda like superman...otherwise really they should be tearing each other apart...

I can't wait to see how this turns out. Thank god for no Ripley. She's carried the franchise for long enough. Hopefully Ridley Scott can bring back the horror and suspense of the original Alien (my favorite of the series).2009-08-05 15:33:00

I hope we learn about why that shipful of alien eggs was there in the first place...2009-08-06 13:16:00

I can imagine a prequel involving humans would be an expedition where nobody returns, so there ends up being no record of their account of the aliens.

Being Ridley Scott, I'm sure he's going to make it bigger and more epic than the original in every way. What I'd like to see is more Giger design, darker and eerier and more nightmarish than ever.

10:1 odds that it's going to star Russel Crowe.

Well if we assume AvP is in the same timeline then Weyland Corp are possibly aware of the existance of aliens (did they get message back to head office - IDK, but let's assume). And weren't the crew on the first mission actually sent deliberately to investigate due to the possibility of bioweapons tech? Bear in mind I probably should have brushed up on the plots of both before writing this paragraph, so feel free to correct me

A crew from the Weyland Corperation would fit nicely inbetween those two events. Whether or not the company allows them to get word out to the wider population is another matter.

I just wanna bring back the claustraphobic helplessness of the first. Whilst the 2nd was awesome, it just lacked that fear. Even during the "game over man..." fiasco, you've still got a troop of badass marines there.

I'm a HUGE fan of this film series (with the exception of a few minor things here and there in the later films). Personally, I think this is a bad idea. I love that we don't know the history of how the alien lifeform's derelict ship came to be there or what went down between the two species... it's just not something we need to know. I can't see how this film could possibly cover any other subject matter?

Let's just hope they don't touch on any more AVP content. That movie was total crap and completely contradicted both franchises. That's one I just deny ever existed.

AvP wasn't that bad.

*ducks the flames*

Obviously in comparison with the original Alien or Predator it's bad - but compared to AvP2:Requiem, it looks like a masterpiece

Sorry, I'm with Rustbucket on this one! We're all better off if we pretend that the AvP movies have zero to do with the canon of this franchise, which has been going steadily downhill ever since Alien 3.

I mean, for one, the first two movies, and to some extend the 3rd one, paint a portait of the alien species as being absolutely destructive demons, dangerous in the highest degree. the thought that these things would be anywhere on Earth, according to the logic of the first couple (amazing) films, Earth would be practically doomed.

The AvP filmmakers exploit this to make an "exciting" plot, but aren't anywhere nearly talented enough to actually make it work remotely with the original films. We should all forget they exist, or, if you enjoy them, enjoy them as a separate spinoff franchise that has nothing to do with the Alien canon.

I just want some more HR Giger nightmare world. Dark, quiet, atmospheric, dangerous, frightening to an unholy degree. Please pull this off.

Been watching this thread from the shadows.

Story details are being closely guarded so as not to spoil surprises for moviegoers, but Director/Writer Ridley Scott explained the outlines of the film and its genesis as follows: "While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart."
