3 switches, 1 door?

Archive: 6 posts

I've been trying to figure out how to make 3 magnetic switches (on 3 wheels with the keys above) activate 1 door. I don't want to make 3 doors though and I don't wanna make the key make a dissolve block fall because then that's irreversible.

It's not for a big level so I'm not very worried thermometer wise. I could think of some ways but if the player just spins the wheel around they would activate that wheels key.

It's a personal vault level but I don't care 100% if anyone breaks in fyi. Thanks for taking the time.

Perhaps you can clarify, do you want 3 switches to all have the same outcome (opening the door), or do you want the door to open when all 3 switches are activated, or something else entirely?

For the first, just make an OR switch with 3 inputs instead of 2. Similar advice for the second, but an AND switch. For the third... i cant help you... yet.

I imagine its the AND switch as you say its a vault level.

You're gonna want a three input AND gate. You can make this from two two-input AND gates [ (a AND b) AND c ] or you can make a dedicated three way AND gate. Easiest way to make a three-way is create three pistons in series:

___ ___ ___ ___
|___|pppp|___|pppp|___|pppp|_s_| K
.

P is a piston, s is a mag switch and K is a mag key. The leftmost square is dark matter and you may want to make the other squares out of glass and rest them on dark matter. Connect each of your input mag keys to the pistons, using directional signals. When all are activated, the pistons extend and s->K. Connect K to your door.

Any questions?

So simple. Thanks a lot. :hero:

Frankly it took me a while to understand and if anyone comes along to find out what I did I'll take a picture.:kz:

That's a much simpler solution than I would have proposed, but then again, I thought you had three different three-way switches and you wanted all of them to control a door. I had a solution worked out, but it was a little bit messy. I'm glad someone could be of service to you. 2009-08-04 13:25:00
