Some of their music HAS to be up to par with some famous artists, I wind up listening to more of their songs instead of buying CD's and such. :blush: I was wondering if anyone else feel'd the same and would like to list some of their favorites. :hero: My personal favorites are: KgZ : http://www.rithum.com/kgzmusic Lapse/Aloysius Rexford : http://www.myspace.com/lapsesound Koriigahn : http://www.myspace.com/paradnb And a group named "The Adventures of Duane and Brand0" but I won't link it since their songs have lyrics with curses in them.

I follow a couple unsigned metal bands from Ohio around. The Beneath and This Fire's Embrace are the bands. They're really cool stuff, and it's only a matter of time before they get signed and make it big. Actually, I think TFE are signed, or they will be soon. Either way, I can say I knew about them when they were still "small time". I don't have Myspace links or anything, but I think they shouldn't be hard to find.

Interesting topic. Personally, my answer is a resounding YES!! I know so many local bands that have come and gone over the years that blow away many mainstream signed bands that it's sickening. The unfortunate truth about the music industry is that it's totally manufactured, run by "suits", and pre-planned several years in advance. The public's opinions and desires play into the grand scheme of things... but only by a fraction really. We only make decisions on what gets played that they actually let us hear or feed us. The music industry is constantly grooming new bands with the intent of "molding" the radio waves and sales (thus lining their pockets with your hard earned cash) anywhere from 2 to 3 years in advance of the bands mass public release. It's one reason that any band being offered what's called a "developement deal" should be VERY cautious. It's not likely that the label is actually interested in your music, but more so that they have another band on their label that sounds a lot like you but is better looking, younger, or better sounding over all. The labels intent is to have you sign, develope your sound and record your album, then shelve your CD to collect dust with the dozens of other bands that sound like the band they are actually planning on releasing to the public. It costs them peanuts to invest in and own your sound and then keep your band off the airwaves in order to ensure that their no.1 band with the same sound has less competition. It's totally screwed up creatively speaking, but makes sense if you're a greedy label like all of the major players out there. We had a large local fanbase here in Ottawa with both of my last two bands and were really starting to get the attention of radio and television stations, producers, and other media. Heck, we even got solicited by Bernie Finkelstein. Unfortunately, two key members decided it was time for them to throw in the towel and get to having kids and settling down. I think that for the time (heck, even for today's audience) we had a really radio friendly sound. All the guys were very talented musicians and we were certainly capable of playing more technical stuff, but decided that selling out early and beating the rush was a quicker avenue to getting to the point where we wanted to be with money and control... musically speaking. This, unfortunately, is the sad demise of many unsigned bands. Eventually you just come to the point where the wind get's taken out of a few members sails and they throw their arms up in the air and walk away, all the while muttering something about how a crappy band like Nickelback or SUM41 got signed and that Emo kids are single handedly ruining music with their poor taste. I won't bother getting into how many great unsigned bands I've known... there's just too many to list. If anyone's at all interested, here's a link to one of my old bands videos for the title track we did for a film from Seville Pictures. Keep in mind that this video is quite a few years old... go easy. EDIT: Just remembered that we had only recorded this song about a week before shooting this video. In the behind the scenes footage on the DVD you can see footage of me with headphones on between takes, literally air-banding and learning my own song because I was trying to remember exactly what I did in the studio the week before.
