Sound with Sticker Switches

Archive: 13 posts

Sometimes the sound when activating a sticker switch can really screw up a level, and I don't think there's any way around it. It should be able to be tweaked so you can't have it make that noise.2009-08-03 15:50:00

Everything with a default sound should have it tweakable. Plasma, fire, gas, sticker switches, paintball switches... I'm with ya.2009-08-03 15:56:00

Yes this truly is annoying. It should be removed. Although if it was removed then you have no indication if you activated the sticker switch then...:S2009-08-03 17:32:00

@adam - it's one of the loudest sounds in the game, so no.

@flame, it should be optional. Default on (so existing levels don't change), then it is the creator's choice what to do with it. Yeah some people will do dumb things like give no feedback, but their levels probably aren't worth playing anyway

I hate this sound... it was the most out of place thing in False Idols III, and I wanted to disable it and connect it to a different sound.

rtm has the right idea... optional, default on, and worthwhile creators will use it properly.

Yes, but both get played at the same time, and as the sticker switches sound is louder - thats the one you can hear.

When I was creating a puzzle that was controlled with sticker switches, it was really annoying when you wanted a bad sound (because the player has done something wrong) but you'd still get the annoying 'weeeeee.. woop'.

So yeh, this is a good idea.

This, along with making the paint switch flash and sound optional, would up the level of immersion in some levels when used correctly. Right now it's just a minor frustration that seems like it would be easy enough to fix.2009-08-03 22:17:00

Agreed. I'd like to remove that sound from my Typewriter Tool, but I've gotten used to it. It'd still be nice to change the sound or at least turn down the volume. I wish we could adjust the volume on sound effects too.2009-08-04 14:08:00

I talked about the lack of respect sound gets a while ago... we can tweak all manner of connectors to invisible yet you can't make a sound "invisible". Pistons do their thing which are very often out of place and I hate the "kink, kink, kink, kink," so much of the what? ( . . . ) that I won't use 'em

However, the sticker switch is interesting on it's own because it absolutely does need some indicator that it has been triggered just maybe not the "RU-by" (current sound default).

The paint switch is different all together though 4 me... my mind doesn't associate a sound to it, it seems very natural to me... but still, it should be modifiable.

I believe it will happen, tweakable sound... I'm just waiting...

Although I don't really use sticker switches in my levels, this would be a good idea. It gets kinda annoying when you don't want that sound to be played.2009-08-05 22:12:00
