Problem Connecting with Other Players

Archive: 6 posts

Ok, for a while now I've had a problem connecting with other players online. I DO get the error message every time I sign on that my "connection type" may have problems with the LBP servers. Strangely though, I NEVER have any problems loading online levels or anything. Everything is very fast and smooth. My connection is coming from a wireless router in my house. It's an open network, and it should have any problem with this.

I have been telling myself that it's other people's connections, but it's happened with over 10 people now, so I highly doubt it.

What usually happens is, I'll invite the player, they will accept, show up in my pod, and then disappear after about a minute.

PLEASE help. It's extremely aggravating and I haven't been able to find any help searching online.

I'm going to state the obvious here and say that it probably has to do with your connection type. Are you using wired or wireless? If you are using wired, then does it run through a router, or directly from a modem.2009-08-03 12:52:00

I'm all wired at my house and I get the connection message each time I boot up. There's no way your wireless is as fast so...

Sooo, I still don't understand. It's not the connection speed. I know that for sure, regardless of whether your connection is faster or not. If it can easily handle Ground War on Call of Duty 4 online seamlessly with 18 people together with explosions and all, I think the connection speed is doing ok.

And BSprague, it's a wireless connection through a router. I said that in the first post.

i'm havin the same exact problem, except i cant go to anyone else's pod, the game lags pretty bad sometimes, and no one can join me in game. i asked my father in law, who has his rigged the same exact way and he has no problems (he hasnt tried it on LBP tho) what i have figured so far is that it is because it is wireless2009-08-06 08:55:00

Yeah but what people never take into account is that LBP function by some really archaic methods. It's a peer-to-peer connection while your other games are, without being technical, "a room in server".
With peer-to-peer it's extremely easy to get lag because the second there's a latency between any of the players that are connected together you might feel it. Add to this wired and unwired connections (2 different speeds) bad and good ISP, internet traffics conditions, etc etc etc

The only thing MM could improve is their netcode and even if they would, it wouldn't solve all lag problems. I would even bet it wouldn't solve most of the lag we already have. What's left for you is to try to find players you're not laggin with and try to play with them instead. :/
