Another database problem!
Archive: 16 posts
Yup. It seems Media Molecule really is having database problems. It's not only the rating that doesn't work anymore but now, if you make a search of the "@ psn name" type, the new levels won't show up. (just the levels without ratings I guess). Oddly enough, the function "find more by this author" is still finding everything... . | 2009-08-02 13:15:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Yeah, these problems have been increasing lately...I'm sure the next patch will patch all these things up | 2009-08-02 13:33:00 Author: Night Angel Posts: 1214 |
Yes, I've noticed this too. In fact, Ranger, when I was searching for your latest level to play, Sack's on the Beach was locked. I initially thought you'd simply locked it, but when I clicked on your name, it came up unlocked. Very strange. | 2009-08-02 13:43:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
I don't think this is new - for a LONG time I've been searching for creators with the @, not getting their newest level, and choosing more by this author... then it appears. Probably 6 months. Being on the spotlight crew, I did it a LOT. I think this may be a risidual affect of the rating database issue.... I noticed this would stop happening after a level started getting more plays and ratings - maybe the rating issue is preventing them from showing up for longer. | 2009-08-02 14:32:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
maybe the rating issue is preventing them from showing up for longer. Or at all? Could it be possible that a level is unsearchable until it has been rated a certain number of times? This would explain why there would be a delay in being able to find it originally, and also why we can't find new levels at all recently. | 2009-08-02 14:43:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
This is all very weird and probably not the game's side but on Media Molecule's. I really hope they are looking into their crap. (you know what I mean, like we need more bugs in this game...) . | 2009-08-02 15:08:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
Yup, it's VERY possible that a level isn't searchable until it's rated - in the last 6 months I've done a TON of playtesting for creators AND I've been one of the first to play levels - so I got used to not seeing a new level when searching by creator. It happened to me virtually every time. So, this would certainly explain why levels that can't retain ratings can't be searched. | 2009-08-02 17:42:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
It's always been like this, or worse... used to be searching for a level by @author for the first 4 months it implemented would take you to ONE of their levels (maybe 2 or 3) surrounded by tons of loosely related possible matches. Now it just brings up only levels by that author which are cemented into their database. I think it's dictated by the amount of time they've been published on the server as well as the playcount and rating weights like Ccubbage said. It probably uses the same time-based filtering system that "find more levels like this" uses. If your level is fairly recent, it won't pull up any results... give it a week or two and you'll see it grouped with some other levels. If it's old but has less than a few hundred plays, and not enough tags to be cross referenced with other levels in the same bracket of plays and ratings, it won't pull up any either. Doesn't seem like too big a deal since "find more by this author" brings it up. | 2009-08-02 18:08:00 Author: Unknown User |

The can sort by PSN account so that the query they should send at the database and call it a day. It works perfectly with "find more by this author". This proove they have the necessary parameters to search by PSN account. . | 2009-08-02 18:56:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
I agree. There needs to be a separate option to search by PSN. This would also make it possible to slightly misspell someone's name and still be able to find them (hopefully). It could show a page of authors, and by selecting the one you want, it'll take you to their level's page. It would just look similar to the 'Hearted Authors' page now. Add an additional search option called 'Search for Author', and it'll be much easier to find levels. | 2009-08-02 19:01:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
i noticed this too today ... I couldn't see what rating the level i just played had. :/ | 2009-08-02 20:28:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
Oh well you at least had a chance to play. Today all the levels had the pink MM patch, and when I tried to load them I heard that hideous Woh Uh sound and it never opened a single level. | 2009-08-02 21:00:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
This'll do: Spaff_Molecule said (on LBW): Hi all, this is just a quick note to say that both the star rating system and the search tool will be back to normal again soon. They were both broken for two entirely different reasons, sorry for not spotting it earlier and fixing it sooner! Thanks! | 2009-08-03 17:45:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |

Being on the spotlight crew, I did it a LOT. Yes - this happens all the time. Really annoying too to find specific levels from the showcase online. It's been more frequently happening since 1.17 in my experience. I also had my game lockup while doing an @ search a few times. May not be related but I have my doubts. Just noticed the post above - glad they're on it. | 2009-08-03 18:01:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
