Roleplaying level

Archive: 34 posts

Here's a few idea I had for a Roleplay type level:

-Mid-size map, with a few villages and dungeons to explore.
-Property buying system. You'd message me in PSN with which house you'd like to purchase, and I'll send you the sticker-key , Owning a house will have perks, the more expensive the house, the more perks it will have. Examples of perks will be, Checkpoints usable only by the house owner.
-Weapon-style fighting, where you'd need to use a weapon to kill enemies, instead of bashing their brains in with your foot
-Players will "register" via PMing me on PSN, the PM will include which job/class they want
-After registering, I'll send them a message, which includes their Bank-safe number, which is the safe which holds their money at the bank.
-The bank will be located at a central location - like a large city, or something.
-Everyday - depending on the job they picked - the person will get 10 coins/dollars added to their bank account.
-Every time they make a transaction, like buying a house, or vehicle, they'll PM me regarding the details(House Address, price, etc.)

Haven't though of how to do money yet ...

I've begun working on the level, and here's what's been finished so far:
-Tutorial for playing level
-Class/Race/Job/combat system
-Money system
-Small village

if you want to test it for me, add me as a friend, and I'll send you the key

I have an idea for money, lets say you have a button near a tree, you press it and an axe rotates to hit the tree, emiting logs. ( small logs ) into a cart and you can take the cart to the general store or something ( near the tree) and however many logs you have in the cart, you get that much money XD that say, emits right to your bank, ( a add-on to your house/ what ever you live in)2009-08-02 06:12:00

Yeah, that's a good idea - I could also apply that to other tasks/jobs, like a gaurd would get money for talking criminals to jail, etc. However, I'm still not sure how you'd actually spend the money earnt through jobs...
Thanks for your idea, though.

This sounds actually kinda cool... so do i understand correctly that you make a level, and players roleplay in it? Would be kinda fun to do something like that, where you go off hunting dragons and whatnot I'm not sure how you'd keep acurate track of who did what though... that could be a problem.2009-08-02 07:59:00

Yeah, I've been trying to work out how to keep track of statistics and whatnot... here's the only thing I can think of:
-Players will "register" via PMing me on PSN, the PM will include which job/class they want
-After registering, I'll send them a message, which includes their Bank-safe number, which is the safe which holds their money at the bank.
-The bank will be located at a central location - like a large city, or something.
-Everyday - depending on the job they picked - the person will get 10 coins/dollars added to their bank account.
-Every time they make a transaction, like buying a house, or vehicle, they'll PM me regarding the details(House Address, price, etc.)

I guess an alternative system could be used for stats and stuff. Only flaw I can think of would be that this would be almost inpossible for me to keep up with if too many people register. Would be alright though if only about 10-20 did.

Wow. I'm not sure how you'd manage to work that out. A sandbox-ish level with a modern economy? That actually updates everyDAY? That's gonna takes some CRAZY dedication to achieve...

Well, I wish ya the best of luck. And if ya need any help, you can PM me. I'm working on a project pretty similar to yours...

Perhaps, a part of the level (Your house, maybe?) shows all of the stats that they have accomplished, they take a picture of it, send it to you, and then you can update the level?

If that's not what your asking, then I don't know I'm a bit confused, but It seems we have the same goal (I want to make a Roleplaying level too )

It's not really a level, just what I hope the level will look like, along with how the property system would work. It's really short so don't expect much.

Yeah, it wasn't. Still, gave an idea of what you were doing...

I was thinking for the property system you could try to talk to CC about using the LittleBigExperience thing so you can buy stuff with exp from here... not too sure though, but yeah, if CC allows that it would make this cool, but... yeah.

Hm... Well, uh... this will be a big project. sure you can take it by yourself? There sued to be a similar project called LandofCloth that fell through quickly...

Ooooo I want to help with this
I will play your demo later and give as many ideas (even if useless) to you back here. Maybe something good will occur. First thing I will try to think of is how to make it so you won't have to udate as much.

I don't think there's a way to make updates less frequent - not one I can think of anyway.

Oh, I'm adding stuff to it at the moment, so I took it offline, I'll resubmit it as soon as it's ready.

Ah, that's fine. I was just wondering if I missed something. I really want to find a way so you only have to update every couple days instead of constantly, so get ready for me to thow tons of crappy ideas at you.

you could have a "cash out" button that gives the player a sticker for how much money they currently have they could then export the picture and send it to you along with any purchase requests (this way you wont have to add every single person as a friend)2009-08-05 01:28:00

Yeah, but the problem with that is people could edit the picture to try and cheat the system...

In a project like this, there's no way for it NOT to cheat the system.

My best bet to make it so it not only works, but you can handle it, is to open it only to LBPC users. That way, a relatively small amount of users will keep bothering you, and no one here would try to cheat the system.

Which would bring to mind the using exp to buy stuff in here, but you'd have to check with CC with that if you even want to. I unno, I just would LOVE that <_>

The exp idea is great, but I doubt that would happen. Opening it to only LBPC would make it a lot more manageable, I'll think about doing that. On a side note:I'm having difficulty thinking about Job/profession perks. Should it be a difference in money earned, or accessing different areas, or both? Also what kinds of professions should be available. So far I've got Miners and Carpenters.

You could make a "builder" proffesion. An emitter emits a block of dissolve, and you drag it not too far too a building site and when the block gets there, a magnetic switch dissolves it, letting the emitter emit another block. Each block = teh big bucks.2009-08-05 03:27:00

Try "Little Big Planet RPG" by ba18614
It is different, but probably the closest thing to what you want to make. Well, not really. But, I'm pretty sure it will get you thinking.

Very interesting, but most likely, non-feasible idea. Too many people = Too many updates. An easier way to do this: Create a new PSN account, and give the pass and email to "Staff" who will help update the level. Only trusted members of LBP could be staff, and so forth.2009-08-05 06:19:00

Good idea, I'll do that. Could be a problem finding people willing to be staff though ...

You have to find people that you know will update it, though. I once tried a project a bit like this, and 50 people said "PLZ LET MEH JOIN!!!!" So, I let them join the game, and, even though I had a lot of staff, no one helped or updated the game. So I abandoned the project and let it die.2009-08-05 07:29:00

Noone on my friends list is trustworthy - or responsible - in my opinion... so... I have no idea how I'll go about recruiting "Staff" members.2009-08-05 07:35:00

I think, Lol Lol, that you should have maybe four levels. One for the rural/house area, one for downtown, one for a lot of industrial stuff, and one for the country...

The downtown would start off with a mayor building (Small, until people donate ), very few shops and items, and maybe a little fountain . Then, as well as people buying homes, people can buy shops, and send you which items to put in it They specify some specifications, and you build it

People could own farms in the country, and sell people dairy and food and crops

But, this is all ideas, it might be to big for this project I just love things that have to do with roleplaying...

EDIT: Also, are you going to be making another PSN for this project? like the "LBPC Town" or something?
