Thanks to all your valuable input, this level has reached higher potential, and now is ready to transcend it's beta status and be counted amonst whole levels!

This is http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/little%20big%20shots/Transcendentalsmall.jpg, fellow sack-babies!
Don't worry if you don't have any mind-expanding music to play along with, Just turn on your in-game music and take a trip through the looking glass in this level.

There are 3 major paths to this level; low, middle, and high. I've weighted them score-wise to depth of play. A player who just rushes to the right on every level they play isn't likely to score as well as one who takes their time and observes.

I've gone through every part of this level. optimizing, polishing and adjusting according to comments and advice I've received.

Yes, It has a proper end now. Gone is the bare dark matter. It has been replaced with artsy-fartsy goodness.

So, clearly I like it, but what counts is do you like it?

Hi
I played your level and I think it's a nice and a cute one.

What I liked :
- The design of the 1st part (trees...)
- the mecanics : the big rolling circle, the "sack press" and the turning "arms", nice and well-done ideas!
- the snail race (not very smooth though)
- The humor (the message on the left of the start point / messages for the hint of the arrow heart tree...)

What can be improved :
- the design in general : after the trees part, the level seems a little empty with very simplistic design
- You should give more hints on what to do. For example, the arrow heart tree hint is not very obvious or after the big rolling circle, there's a big amount of bubbles but I didn't find how te get them...
- The end is a little strange with the dark matter and the reversed and fallen scoreboard

There's a place for some improvements but nice work!

I liked:
-The snail races, but during the second one, they seemed to snag on the hills alot.
-The maze.
-The graphics were nice.

I didn't like:
-After the maze, the level looked plain,(The dark matter part.)

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/emote/newfeatures.jpg

:star: The Bush with all the green score bubbles...A prompt now comes up after after a player tries to solve by just jumping 3 or 4 times... I don't want to give it away before the player has a chance to reason it out for them-selves. not sure if the delay is correct, though. should I have it hold of even longer? like 5 or 6 jumps?

:star: second snail race I added a graphic with prompt. Hopefully it explaines the nature of the challenge better than just letting the player pick up on it.

:star: I added a ramp at the end that bounces the player directly into the prompt that explains the incomplete status of the end.

---I have played around with some ideas, but none really work with the mood of this level. as soon as I come up with (or someone suggests) a good end. I will flesh out the back-side of the level with hills, trees and such-like.

Thank-you for your Great input. keep it comming!

hi swan - just played your level, and here's what I thought...

A decent, fun level which has quite a few areas of interest. I liked the bit right at the beginning with the 'There's Nothing to See Here' signs, especially as when you walk as far as you can to the left, you can see a bit of your logic and stuff. Don't know whether this was intentional, but it made me smile nonetheless.

The hints were humourous, and I managed to find a few secret stashes of bubbles.

Being a fellow circle freak, I particularly enjoyed the interlocking circles. Again, more humour as I found a few Anti-H4H signs! All the circles worked well - believe me, I know how difficult it can be to place and sync these things!

Overall, a happy, fun level. I rated 4*, Hearted, and tagged with 'Fun'.

LOL it was originally just meant as a place-holder until I made a hill or something to cover the logic-stash, but It kept getting more elaborate. Some younger players got really ticked off when they saw it. they were like-"WHY DID YOU PUT SCORE BUBBLES BEHIND THOSE TREES IF YOU DIDN'T WANT US GOING HERE?!" That was the point I decided it might be worth keeping.

In-fact, now that you mention it, I think I'll make the wall thinner and move the logic closer, so the player can see more of it.

Okay, I'm playing through this level as I'm typing. I like how you put different paths to reach the end. The big wheel in the beginning didn't work out for me. I had to restart twice because of it. Both times I got inside of the wheel and got stuck at the dip near the middle. I got through it okay the third time. I guess I wasn't getting enough momentum. I like the hint part. That made me smile. The second snail race (the longer one), you spelled Balance wrong. I'm not sure if this was intentional. I like the "Just step, Don't jump" signs. The dark matter during the daytime seems out of place. It's okay when it turned dark but felt weird during the day. The scoreboard felt out of place with all the blue dark matter around. Maybe it should be colored blue?

Looking forward to the finished version. I like the score weighing for each layer as u mentioned. It's the first time someone took that into consideration in my book.

Overall, I felt like it was 3 stars (as it is beta) but I'm sure when it's finished it will hop up to 4 so I rated it 3 stars and when I play the finished version, I'll probably rate it 5 so my votes average a 4 star. Hope it'll be finished soon

Ok, here's what I thought of it-

Very well done level! The scenery was very nice, particularly towards the beginning, and I liked the different paths.

The 'hard' path was well hidden, enough that experienced players shouldn't have troubles finding it, but newer players certainly won't stray into it. The cloud spinning part was somewhat confusing. Is there an ending to it, or are you just supposed to drop off when it goes as far as it can? An arrow sticker or arrow shaped cloud would help clarify on that part.

The humor throughout was welcomed, it's always nice to see a little humor in levels.

I liked the idea of the snail race, very clever! I liked how the second snail race's stash was hidden as well. The balance thing was a little annoying, since if you grab the wrong place on the snail you can easily tip yourself into the gas. Balance was spelled wrong in your dialogue, but that's been pointed out already. It seems like it would be a fun race to play with other players too, I like the 'you have to move on your snail to get him over the hills' idea. The lowest snail race was very slow, which made it funny. Awesome!

The don't jump signs were well done, very Little Big Planet appropriate.

Your moving circles worked very well as well. Enough that it feels like a puzzle, but it's really pretty single path with only two dead ends that I found. I like the anti h4h things in the dead ends as well.

As you know, of course, the ending needs done still. Your bubble holding machine was well done, it works very smoothly. Which is always a plus.

Great level though, I enjoyed playing through it!

Wow! My spelling is really embarasing! so thanks for the heads-up!

I Had sort-of forgotten about the cloud level, since I don't get much feed back on it. Too well hidden, perhaps? anyway I'll get on that fix. I should not have left it "hanging" like that (snicker).

Really? more dead ends and false paths on the ring-maze? COOL! i had a great time doing it, and was being carefull of over-doing a good thing. I trust you will let me know if I go too far.

The first thing I see is the title and I think it feels a bit sloppy when creators don't capitalize the first letter of each word (except for "the" or other small words). I seached for happy place and there's a lot of levels with that title, maybe you can think of something more original. But I'm a real title troll myself! I like to use Thesaurus.com to help me out. Here a link to happy: http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/happy maybe it can give you some ideas!

The level starts off great, the trees look good. However it gets a little bit lackluster along the way. Could you cheer the place up with some more colors? The ground doesn't have to be green only, some other material perhaps? The snail races are cute and fun, but the rotating things toward the end are the most fun part of the level.

You need some more moving things in the level to make it feel more alive. Sometimes creators put eyes and faces on the structure of the level, maybe you could try that somewhere?

Could you check my F4F level? Link is in sig.

Thanks for your Valuable advice! "my happy place" was originally just sort of a working title, not really intended to be permanent. I got focused on working with the level, and the name slipped under my radar. I will definitely be re-naming it soon.

I agree that the scenery is suffering in the second half. I Want to come up with one last section before filling the rest of the level out. still not sure what. My original idea was to have alot of glass distortion as the player navigated on two planes, but I remembered that difficulty because of funky camera tricks is not really much fun. so, I'm replacing all the dark matter at the end with something more fitting.

Thanks again for your review!

The level is very good, with a good quiet pace.
You just need to polish it a bit, and make it more awesome visually.
Great sense of humor throughout

I should've checked this level sooner, It's pretty cool. I like levels where I can go different ways. I'm sure I missed something so I'll go back and check later.

Those giant circle-clock-hand-things were awesome, I bet that was a pain to get working. It could also be used to create more potential path ways in the level, unless you already have, as I said I need to go back and play again to find out.

I think you could do a lot more at the end, definitely. I'm a bit short of ideas at the moment, I've already exhausted them today, but I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

But really good, I'll keep up to date with this level, unless I forget.

This is the re-birth of my level!

Welcome to:
Transcendental Sackitude

I have revamped just about everything, and what I haven't tweaked, I've replaced.
I Even managed to add a new section.
there are too many new features and fixes to name, so I'll just say that there are a couple things that I didn't edit.
I think you will like it!

I'll be there as soon as my PS3 is on.

EDIT:
I played it, what was wrong now is smooth, the level is a bit short, but I think the thermo is exploding due to complex circles shapes (Swanbrown's trademark), the level is really funny, with a bit of the Unfair Platformer in here.
The first rotating wheel is just awesome, it rolls like nothing else in LBP, and the Snail Races are too funny.

Cons...You're seriously against H4H

The last part is awesome, so colourful and light hearted.
Even if this level seems simple it's quite a great work of logics and fine tuning.

Really, the only cons, but it's just IMHO, is the lack of a background (since I don't hype for void backgrounds)...maybe the Garden background would fit well, I don't know.
This level would deserve 4 stars but I gave it 5 stars, since this level has the wonderful pro to put you in a better mood.

Cool! Thanks for the fine review...I'll see about backgrounds. I'm glad you brought it up, because it totally slipped my mind. (probabbly because I tend to think of the background as a story object) But I'll check it out.

Hey swanbrown!

Had a go on this level today. I really liked the look of the level, nicely done. Really liked the trees (is that an odd thing to say?? hehe) and the part where the sun comes down - lovely touch. The hints made me smile, as did the snail race - there's an oxymoron if ever I heard one! The only very very minor improvements I would suggest would be as follows:

1) During the 2nd snail race, my snail seemed to get stuck every now and then, despite balancing my sackboy to get him moving, sometimes this took a while.

2) During the part with the moving arms, I got a bit lost, and it took me a while to get through. this may just be me missing the obvious, but perhaps a hint could be given here also?

Really nice level though - good work!

Sticky snail: I think your snail might have just gotten hungry and stopped for a snack. no? okay. I had noticed that if you over balance the snail forward on the down-hill, it will kind of stick it's nose into the ground. Is that what you're talking about? I had just sort of put it down to being part of the finesse of the challenge, I think I'll try rounding the nose a little on the bottom side and see if that helps. hopefully I'll still be able to flip the snail going down the hill. (Crap, I should have put that in the video!)

Maze daze: That's interesting...I actually just expanded the ring maze a little because I had gotten feed back about it barely being a maze at all. hmm... on the one hand, I wanted to create a disorienting atmosphere for this challenge, but on the other hand, the rings all look alike except for the direction of the blue things. I'll have to think about a solution. If you get a notion about it, let me know.

Also, did you manage to get the pile of green bubbles? I'm wondering if the solution to that is to obscure.

anyway, thanks for the feed-back!

Hey swan. I played this when you first posted but never got around to the whole feedback part. I liked a lot of what you'd done but the ending really killed it for me. Massive improvement from before I must say. I like the little bits of humour. The "nothing to see here" when there clearly is something to see and the hints mouths. I knew what was gonna happen at the end of that but I went for it anyway

Rocket snails - awesome. Wheeley snails - have you tuned these? The first time through they felt very very awkward to keep them moving, now they are a lot smoother, but you still need to control them to progress - it's a skill challenge but not frustrating. I like the idea of a novel, skill based, means of transport in a race.

The circles on sticks is wonderful. Let down by the anti h4h sitckers IMO. I know how you feel, but it's a laid back and light-hearted level, I don't want you rubbing these things in my face. I kinda think that it would have been better if they weren't at every dead end - it was like you only put those dead ends in for that purpose. Put bubbles in as well - that'll soothe the beast It is a great little dynamic you have there. I was wondering if it might be possible to create an entire maze out of it, maybe shrink it down for visibility and have mixtures of 90 degree, 180 degree and 270 degree movement. It would be insane to design, but IMO would make a fantastic concept.

The ending is very much improved as I said, very trippy and I liked it. Two minor issues with it: 1 when you run left up the C's and get to the top, it was hard to spot which of the circles flying past was the thick layer one. I actually found it by trial and error with auto planeshifting. Then when you come back down the C's there is no visibility on where to go next - it's very much a leap of faith. A cam would be nice here.

The big pile of bubbles is perfect. Give the player a problem and all the clues are visible and the solution logical, but just say nothing - LBP needs more of this. I kicked myself when I worked it out, and that's always a good sign

I was a little torn between 4 or 5 stars. It's a little short and a little lacking in any wow factor in the visuals, but then I thought about the unique gameplay and went for the 5

By the way, nice gradient stickers you used throughout the level. Where might I find somewhere to get hold of those Lol my purple ninja's now covered in gradients so ta very much once again.

If this is an F4F, can you check out my level (see sig). If not, check it out anyway

Hey,

So here are some of my thoughts. FIrstly, I really liked the the psychedelic ending. It was abit perplexing at frst because I didn't know exactly where to go, but I fought through it and still anjoyed it quite a bit. A little more direction in that area would be nice, but I still like the figure-it-out-for-yourself effect.
Additionally,I really liked the gold aztec circle part, it was brilliant and put a hige smile on my face. It looked great too.

All in all, I liked the style of the level but I wish there would have been just a tad more visual directions. I'm not saying that I want you to splash arrows all over the pace, but some visual cues such as camera anglesand lighting would really give this level a little something more.

Good work, I enjoyed playing it!

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpgI have added camera zones to the last part so the tops of the "c" jumps aren't blind

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg The "no H4H" stickers replaced with just a slashed circle.

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg I've added a hint to a bonus zone that previously was only gotten to by luck

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg Lots of score bubbles added.
Particularly in the ring maze where you have to ride the out-side of the rings to get them (really hard, but fun. I think)

http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt210/swanbrown/utility/swanbullets.jpg I replaced the normal check-point bu the ring-maze to an infinate check-point so a player can ride the rings with-out worry.

I was wondering if it might be possible to create an entire maze out of (the ring maze)maybe shrink it down for visibility and have mixtures of 90 degree, 180 degree and 270 degree movement. It would be insane to design, but IMO would make a fantastic concept.

I thought about it, but for this level I think I'll leave it with just the 90 and 180 degree movenent (especially now that I'm pushing thermo to the point that any edits I do have to be done un-paused.) I may expand on it in another level. Some Ideas I had about it never came to light in this level.

@ Frazer951: I'm still thinking about how to properly clue in the player to the faux decorative arm with out being too obvious. maybe a subtle change in color, or a non foggy spotlight. not sure.

P.S. hopefully, the new score stashes will help knock me from the top score.
Hint: It's possible to get the lion's share of points from all three paths in one game
I think I'm going to delete and re-publish soon (after I get just a little bit more feed-back. I'll let you know when I do.

I really liked this level. The circle maze was great. Those swirling blue things were awesome. just an overall awesome atmosphere. My only gripes are that the music sometimes sounded bad when it overlapped, that the cured dark matter things at the end were really frusterating to walk on and that I got stuck for a while because I didn't notice that blue glass curve thing amongst the rest of the swirls for a long time and couldn't get to the top of the curves.

4 Stars. Hearted.

I'm a bit late to the party, but in my defense I had played an early version of this. There were a few great parts and a few good parts. The ending was kind of "meh" for me, but some of the humor and such throughout made up for it.

I loved the "hints" part, as well as the snail races. The super fast motor on the first one was hilarious. Finally someone makes a race in which there's more to holding down R1 (the second race).

I gave this level 4 stars.
