As far as electronica goes, I'm not big on D&B/house/techno etc., but I like Daft Punk (who doesn't?) and Air are one of my favourite groups. I saw them last year in Melbourne and they blew my mind. There's also a really cool group from Sweden called Studio (http://www.myspace.com/sstudio) that make perhaps the best summer music you'll ever hear. However, I love trip-hop I.E. Boards of Canada, DJ Krush, Portishead, RJD2 and especially DJ Shadow. Endtroducing is one of my favourite albums ever. I've seen him perform live twice (once with Cut Chemist).

I've have been addicted to electronic music for the past 20 years or so, I love dj'ing and producing (actually i'm a synthgeek and have my own studio), so yeah.... count me in I like minimal/house/techno/IDM/lounge/D'n'B/ ambient, not really a fan of trance/goa/hardtek. One of my favourite artists are Autechre among others like Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Biosphere, BOC, Aphex Twin, Loco Dice, Pole, Deadbeat, Dj Shadow, Dj Krush, Kruder & Dorfmeister... too many to mention to be honest misty.

Prodigy and daftpunk i'm afraid i've to say i "liked" both bands I saw daft punk 15 years ago at the very first i love techno party when they were still 'underground', I was pretty shocked, nothing compared to what they do now, (hard, raw & in your face!) prodigy isn't what it was used to be as well, although i've never really been a big fan of them, they have some good songs though. misty

Oh god yes, those are my favourite genre of music.My fave bands are probably MGMT and Daft Punk. Im also a huge fan of Game Music. LOL... anyway, I used to listen to Tool, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, etc... back in the day, I just found out one day that music can go alot farther when manipulated and created using infinite electronic tools and sound editing processes at your disposal... which to me makes it highly creative, and although maybe not all that 'good' (opinion), it takes talent to combine this so called 'noise' correctly...

When someone like Liam howlett creates custom sounds, building the waveforms from scratch and from various sources to use in his music and then uses that to create his music using a keyboard or by composing on a computer, it takes far more skill than me strumming a guitar. Yet the latter is proper music you say? Then take into account a lot of electronica is played using proper instruments anyway, and your whole argument comes down to naivety and in one fell swoop you have managed to undermine any credibility you may have hoped to have. Seeing Pendulum, Prodigy, Roni Size/Reprazent (to name a few) perform live is mindblowing - all making "real" music, with "real" instruments and putting on a better show than most of the "real" musicians I have seen, and I have seen a lot Infected mushroom are weird, I don't know if they qualify as GOA (don't know what that is), but their stuff is quite varied. I've not heard anything from FSOL for ages, I just listen to the old stuff - heard "we have explosive" on wipeout2097 and was hooked from then

Except anyone who knows how to use a computer and has any idea about music could go and make this stuff, whereas it can take a lifetime to master the Guitar, the Drums, bass etc. because they require more skill, you can't just pick one up and then instantly go and play Iron Maiden or Avenged Sevenfold. You've given a single artist in that who you say is skilled and better than Metal guitarists. But that's only one. Any Metal/Hard Rock band's guitarist has to be skilled, as do the drummers and everyone else, or it sounds bad. Edit: This is fun isn't it

I understand the skill of metal musicians, I also understand the skill of electric artists. In the same way as you can't just pick up a guitar and play amazing metal, you can't just take a laptop and create amazing electronic music. It's like saying anyone who knows a bit about music and can hold a pen can write a concerto, they can't. Or anyone who can pick up a pen and knows the basics of plot structure can write an amazing novel. Or someone who knows what paint is can... You get the idea? It takes a lifetime to master the techniques involved in all of these, it's the subtleties that matter and the subtlety and artistry that separate the wheat from the chaff in every artistic field.

Okay, im not saying metal is a bad type of music here, i just like it. But saying that anyone with a computer can make electronica music is in fact correct, but just like a guitar. you can strum it all you want, call it music and it is in fact music. not GOOD music. but still music. like a computer, you can put a harp and screaming voices on as a melody, it won't sound good. But it's still music. The definition of music does not include variation of good or bad. So in the end, they are both music. just different types.

Kraftwerk How could I forget Kraftwerk :blush: Kraftwerk was actually the very first live concert i've ever seen (about 20 years ago now), and until today, it's still one of the best live acts i've ever seen in my life. They had an incredible setup in those days. I used to own 2 black Technics MK-1200s & a pioneer 300 mixer, a Roland 505 Groovebox, and a Roland 202 sampler (none of which were vintage ) Anyway, I used to dj at a few small local events. Now I only use Sony Acid & Sound Forge to make tracks (just for fun)...I had about a dozen tracks on AcidPlanet.com at one time, but creating music with those is too time consuming, and I'm never satisfied with the sound quality on my pc (16-bit sound card ) sold & gave up everything regretably... a couple people may still have an old mix CD or two floating around! I used to be fascinated with the Chicago House scene and Hard Filtered Techno (most of my vinyl was 4 on the floor, non-stop techno, and I've always liked that crazy filtered out 140 BPM, 4AM disco house (it's great for mixing). Just before I sold my decks back in 2004, I was into turntablism (Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike) and I was getting pretty good (learned the quick fade stuff on the mixer, cuttingback and forth, starting & stopping the palette at the end of a measure, etc) Now I just enjoy listening to the music, and those cats in the German minimal techno scene are far better than anything I could ever come up with! (kompact, Apparat, Ellen Allien) I dont like house that much anymore, I've become a huge fan of Abstract & Downtempo, Minimal Tech & Tech House (John Digweed's 'Transitions' comes to mind)... Anyway, that's my musical background in a nutshell! Now...if only I could 'channel' those creative juices over to LBP and create a new experience.... LOL

Anyway, that's my musical background in a nutshell! Now...if only I could 'channel' those creative juices over to LBP and create a new experience.... LOL There's a tool in development to create our own music, there's hope milton I've been kind of obsessed with music & sound since i was 13 (i'm 34 now). Didn't take too long before i bought my first synthesizer and started to create my own stuff. I was really interested in making my own tracks, but also my own sounds. Didn't take too long before i had my own little studio but lately i narrowed it down to a small, hands-on minimal setup. Clavia G2 modular synth, Machinedrum, DSI evolver, Yamaha DX200 and a Korg Kaoss Pad 3 an Echo 24ch soundcard and ableton LIVE. I've been fascinated with all kinds of electronic music (from ambient to hardtek and anything in between) but IDM & minimal are still my favourites (maybe because those are almost the opposite of eachother). I always had a huge respect for people like autechre, Kraftwerk, ... they are years ahead with their music. Lately i just like to fool around with modular synthesis and do sounddesign, it's so much fun when you have a powerful system. In a way the LBP editor reminds me a lot of that, because it's pretty modular as well. I was kind of surprised to see logic stuff in LBP, i use that all the time to create sounds as well. misty.

New music tool? yay! *jumps around, claps hands, & screams like a 13 year old girl at a beetles concert* When I first entered create mode and found the sound objects, I was thrilled. Then I started going through the samples in the music sound object (a little less thrilled, but okay) then I started playing with them and realized that the grid didn't guarantee good timing. So, I compensated by making a level where your player vehicle bounces over hills and crushes cars as it plays the music (no help to the timing issue at all, it turns out. lol) So, that's absolutely Fabulous news to me! I started making music on a Commodore 64 home computer (any one remember SID player?) I was hooked. since then, I've been making music with anything I could get my paws on. Since I've always had financially small paws, I used (and still do) a lot of un conventional gear. I was living in Arkansas at the time, So I wasn't really free to explore Soul-music as much as I'd have liked to, So I started learning blues (great art-form. Take the otherwise un-attractive habit of complaining, and turn it into something people actually WANT to listen to.) So, blues organ has become sort-of a specialty, although I try to bury it in teck. Currently I have a couple of Yamaha keyboards, an Alesis keyboard that I adore, electric and acoustic guitar, set of harmonicas, a dobro, and a plethora of miscellaneous stomp-boxes and finger-toys. I even use my old Play-station and a copy of "Mtv Music Generator" for some of my loops. I'll use just about anything that perks my ears in my music. I started making music on a Commodore 64 home computer (any one remember SID player?) I was hooked. since then, I've been making music with anything I could get my paws on. The SID is still pretty popular these days. I checked out your link on the SID station. Probabbly for the best that they stopped and emulators took over. I noticed that only the subtractive functions were active- no ring synchronization and no hard mod. Those additive functions really made the sid chip versitile. I would have been really stemed if I had bought one before realizing that half the chip's functionality had been dropped!

I guess its some kind of program called audiosurf...read about it in comments on the youtube video...there isnt an official 'video' for the song, so they just have a bunch of random images accompanying the track...I chose my favorite version This track is insane though...I really like electro house (daft punk, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, Digitalism, Justice) I'd say daft punk really paved the way with french house...then other people started emulating their style and added more synth sounding elements as opposed to the old disco loop samples that kinda died out earlier in the decade. Acid and Electro synth stuff has officially replaced old school funk and disco house... I think in the future, underground techno will become so minimal, that it will just be silent noise that you imagine is there, and it will all be interpereted differently LOL

Very nice, and I've always loved videos made in this style to that kind of music. For some odd reason, when I hear songs like your song or that Fear one you've posted, I always think they would make good shmup (shoot em up games if you don't know) songs. That might sound silly, but that's what comes to mind are those frantic scrolling shmups. Lol. aha thnx the vid took 3 hours of non stop work, and i mashed up a bunch of home footage clips of me going to montana and me with my friends giving fake interviews at the U.S. opening, lol but i know what u mean by picturing it in a shmup, cause ive heard quite a few people saying it'd sound good in a game, haha

Daft Punk and Justice are my 2 favourite artists. That's really odd, but compelling. I think I like it. gonna have to give it a few more listens with the cool animation covered. I haven't really listened to alot of minimal stuff like this, so it's taking me a while to warp my head around it. I saw that video a few months ago. Downloaded Minilogues Album but I never got past 2 or 3 listens. I'm not a big fan of repetitive techno even when its sort of minimalist, well produced and slightly ambient. An album I'd recommend is Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92 YouTube - Aphex Twin: "Tha" Some of its fairly repetitive and its on the verge of ambient techno, but its so relaxing. And still one of my favourite Aphex albums.

I see most of you like Justice and Daft Punk. If so, check out Crystal Castles. Some songs are very nostalgic as they use 8-bit sounds, so it reminds me of games like Pokemon and Mario and whatnot. Good stuff.
