I would like rock music too, for those really actiony parts of levels. The closest thing to rock music is if you turn on the drums part of the Wilderness Intmusic.2009-07-30 21:44:00

Depends what kind of rock. If it has anything to do with Paramore or BFMV, I hate you. LOL, but seriously, I really hate that crap. Prog rock and psychedelic is my style 2009-07-30 21:59:00

I also like porcupine tree like you do, btw. Trains and Lazarus are perfect songs.
But there's no need to call other music crap, since it all comes down to personal likes

And yes, I also think that rock music would be awesome. We all know that putting famous riffs (smoke on the water, for example) ingame would mean various legal problems, so I guess that what we culd get would be some rock songs composed by MM's music designer, or not a ver famous band, or something.

Anything goes, I think, as long as we get more music, and if we're seriously lackin of something, it's some good ol' rock. Just something to pump up your adrenaline, that's all.
We just haven't got many songs like that, so they become far too repetitive.

This game needs moar ambient music, think ICO or Encounter with everything off but ambient...

I was really hoping that the Team ICO pack would come with YouTube - Ico (Soundtrack) - Castle In The Mist, but I was mistaken :'(

I don't really see a need for genre specific music of any kind in LBP. The theme has always been world music, something like the way Wyclef produces where instruments and cultural sounds of all sorts are blended together in a mixing pot to create a distinct pallet and style.2009-07-30 23:38:00

That's indeed true, and yet another reason for including some rock music. Rock is, with no doubt, one of those "world musics" so there's no real point for not having a solid track of it ingame.

EDIT: Aurongel, I agre with you, that music is great. I would also love to see the tracks from SotC!

doesn't need a song from a band just something more serious and adventurous like a heavy hero theme song. heck I know people on newgrounds who make all kinds of music of there own.2009-07-30 23:54:00

More music in general. Pretty much anything that can set a mood. I don't care if its rock or jazz or trancey or funk or celtic or folk... You get the idea. I'd rather not see anything too heavy (by that I mean death metal and pounding breakbeats - fine for IRL but generally awful for soundtracks), and preferably nothing too lyrical.2009-07-31 00:43:00

That's happens to be exactly what I was thinking about; not too heavy, and preferably with no lyrics at all.

Actually, I'd sell my soul for a rock interactive track.

Oh, and about the Jazz track, doesn't the sabana music fill the gap? I always considered it Jazz, altough I don't know much of the genre.

I would honestly pay a good amount of money for a Music Pack, with in-game music, both interactive and non, and some more sounds. We don't have a lot of music to be honest, it's all gone rather dull.2009-07-31 02:08:00

Exactly! A music pack would be a great piece of DLC. Hell, if it was something from SoTC, ICO, or any other Sony game, I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

LBP needs more ambient/atmospheric music, think Cries in The Wind

Mm missed their chance with the Team ICO pack, if there was any Sony game to draw excellent, fresh, and ambient tracks from, it was definitely that one... Or SotC to a lesser extent (IMO)

Does anyone know how hard licensing would be if Mm hypothetically "borrowed" music from other Sony brand games (Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, God of War, ICO, etc)?

How would royalties and the like work out?

...I think people should be able to put in their own music. As in the music on their HDD. But MM would get in trouble. 2009-07-31 03:02:00

Yes, more music definitely, I'm a metal-fan but I would appreciate whatever kind of new music, since I'm really getting bored of all this music.
I, for one will add, some real metal music (or something like Devil May Cry) and some Irish or Scandinavian folk

You're right, I do apologise. Just some of the people I know that are BFMV fans seem to think that they're the only metal band in existence, which really irritates me. Even so, I apologise once more.

To OP...

I don't believe music in LBP is silly and boring. It's light-hearted and upbeat (well, some selections, of course). If you don't like the music you should just make your own [music] in LBP, or leave everything silent

Rock music might subtract the overall feeling from the music of LBP. Not saying that Rock can't do this, but if it was implemented, I'm sure it will have the same feeling as the rest of the "silly and boring" music.

What I really think they need to do is have a music creation tool, that wouldn't be that difficult to make, would it?2009-07-31 17:06:00

I think it would be better if MM let us record things, but only things from in-game, nothing from the mic, and only in create mode.

If you make a music level, you could then record it and put it in a music form, and you would be able to place it in your level.

Actually that's a really interesting idea. Just being able to record all the sounds from create mode... You could overlay the existing tracks with new beats or melodies etc. I couldn't, but I'm sure some could

Absolutely and some world music.

Simply more music, really.

Use the tweakable wedding theme music, that has a guitar solo in part of it. Just turn off all the instruments apart from the drums, bass and guitar. It's more of metal track though.

This may seem slightly irrelevant, but as one of the choices in the musical sound selection, do you think that there should be an acoustic guitar sample as well? I mean, piano is great but for some things I could really use a guitar too...2009-07-31 21:12:00

Yes, and electric. I've also wanted a louder bass in LBP for ages.

Thats pretty funny, cause I always thought heavy metal was silly and boring

We all like to generalize
I agree with the ambient Ico music. I think games should really feature more electronic and ambient scores. Electronic music production is just so flexable these days, think about it.. you can create ANY sound. When you have complete control over sculpting your sounds, games can seriously benefit from that freedom and scope.

Are you serious? Video game metal is but not real metal.

YouTube - Enter Sandman- Metallica

YouTube - Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills

Oh, god. You don't have to defend metal, please. You're not going to change anyone's mind. And Pitcard was saying that to make a point.

And if you wanted to show that Metal is "srz" then you should have put Tool up there. Metallica is silly

LBP really needs some more ambient stuff. Stuff that's more subtle.

Hahah you hit the nail on the head Awesomemans
Metal isn't for everybody, if it was a game aimed at a very particular audience then a metal soundtrack could be super. But LBP is a very open game. It seems to reach out to all types of people. Heck I'd say about 1/4 of the members here are over 20, some even married O_O

The style of the music already on the soundtrack are quite "world-music-ish". And that suits the main game, since the levels are plotted around the LBP globe, and based on real locations. Each with its own culture.
Ambient and electronic stuff would be great because it can add that depth to backup the gameplay, in a subtle way. Its not as intrusive as metal, but more adaptive maybe :S

your getting off track. I want rock music like in the game guilty gear. as well as all other general music. like one of eatch. or have music packs for dlc. like a rock pack, hip hop etc.

but as some one said. recording just the sound made in create mode then putting it in to a level music box would be great.

How? And I put Iron Maiden up there too.

This is silly...

YouTube - Mastered by Muppets

Anyway back on topic, they should make individual packs for people who like different genres of music.

wow, could you imagine the load times. if the levels had custom sound files associated with them? get used to that wonderfull "loading" text orbiting your level icon!

what I'd like is a musical sound object with longer piano sounds, and samples that are actually in-key with each other.

That's indeed true, and yet another reason for including some rock music. Rock is, with no doubt, one of those "world musics" so there's no real point for not having a solid track of it ingame.

EDIT: Aurongel, I agre with you, that music is great. I would also love to see the tracks from SotC!

Every track already has elements of different kinds of music in it, including rock on most of them, which creates the unique world music feel. Nothing is clearly identifiable as any one genre, and all of it has elements that can be attributed to genres and cultures of all types in different combination.

My Patch has alot of southern twang, and blues rock in it, some honkey tonk folk to it.

Tapha Niang even has a somber spanish guitar, almost akin to Carlos Santana unplugged, heavy hitting drumline... all rock inspired and derived.

Volver a Comenzar's pop sound is actually built on a drum pattern derived from traditional rock... as alot of pop music is. There's even alot of classical guitar in it. While the vocals are latin, and the tempo and synthesizer sound is very 80's progressive the fundamentals and sounds of rock are well represented.

There are elements of rock in almost every track, even if there isn't a dedicated power ballad. I think only classical is represented by itself. All the tracks with elements of jazz, big band, hip-hop, polka, country, folk, salsa etc etc etc are all mixed up as well, with sounds that reflect hundreds of musical stylings from all over the world.

Even if like... a Heavy Metal Mullet Planet (thanks Leather Monkeys ) pack was released, the only way to make an exclusively rock track fit with the soundtrack and feel of the game itself, is to mix it up with other genres, styles, and sounds the way the music already has been. More music would be great, rock or otherwise, but I just think it has to be handled right.

Agreed! I love the songs they have now, and the fact that they encompass many different sound spectrums in the electronic genre, I just think they need more of them... Reminds me of the soundtrack to JSRF for X-Box (loved that in-game soundtrack)

I like how all of the elements come together in the tracks, and the artists that do the tracks currently featured in the game have other really interesting and wonderful songs found elsewhere. If they could bring those to LBP...maybe some of their more edgy, hypnotic material!
