These are really cool and even cooler that you decided to share them, but at the same time they are too short and repetitive. It's like each one is the start of a cool song, but that's it. You hear what seems like is going to be some nice music only to realize it's really a short jingle that constantly loops. Would you consider expanding any of these songs? If you could expand some of them even to the length of a minute, I think they would be very useful.

There is a way to make a complete song, but i decided to just use these short 'Jingles'.

First because there very user friendly, i wanted my songs to be used by even the most unexperienced player and not get them confused with switches and where to place them

Secondly size. The level's thermo is already maxed out and a song that takes about 2 minutes to play would tip the level over the edge. I wanted to use as little materials as possible for the songs so they would not overwhelm somebodys level once they put it in.

Thirdly unable to follow. I cant get a long song to follow a player around a level......yet.

Who know's man maybe there will be a Morton's Music Shop 2 one day.

Thanks for playing and have a nice day.

You want songs that can stay on time even in laggy conditions (or quickly put themselves back on time if desynched), are portable enough to fit on a minute following device, or a song short enough to fit in a small area for effect since people will rarely be standing still in any one area for a full minute at a time... also thermometer friendly is a must, especially if you're making a level with enough integrity to even warrant a custom soundscape.

I'm sure A_Morton could have devoted himself to a full music level and come up with something much more sweeping and complex with alot more measures and breaks.

Anyway, I'll be checking these out today.

I like the idea for this. The songs in the game are fairly limited when making a level, and pretty repetitive after playing a few community levels. I think I'm going to devise a few full length songs of my own so that I'm not stuck with the MM songs anymore, hopefully it won't be hard on the thermometer.2009-08-01 04:27:00

Maybe you could do "Morton's Music Shop Pro" or "Morton's Music Shop Advanced" and put in like five 1 minute songs. I understand the need to keep them thermo friendly, but if you could produce songs that are a minute long that take up about a quarter of thermo then that would be great.

Do you know how to make a music wheel? If not, check out A Hero's Duty by TheJollyRajah. It has a nice music wheel that can be connected to a player following device. I don't think it's a minute long, but long enough that it's not TOO repetitive.

EDIT: I just remembered something cool I have that I hadn't messed with in a long time. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the person who made this. Maybe you'll find it useful in case you ever want to go REALLY BIG on the music. lol Just search for "For A_Morton" by Reef1978-2. It's copyable.

DOUBLE EDIT: I just realized there is a glitch that I thought I got rid of that maxes the thermo, but you still may find this useful. It's supposed to take up half a thermo. Originally there was an entire level built on this and I deleted it piece by piece and kept the music portion so there is a way to use it for a level.

Wow, ok. Time for a numbered reply. :S

No1. Yeah! thats a really good idea, i might even start working on something like that, make it all space age and ultra clean. Like a Mac type of software I just gotta find a way to get the long songs to follow the player.

No2. Yeah, i originally started the 'Music Shop' with about 2 music wheels, but i found it complex to re-use, i.e. having a base template of the '16 beat bar' was much easier to edit new drums/ melody ect. And i also thought a wheel was less precise. I haven't seen raja's wheels, but no doubt it's good.

No3. Thanks i'll try to find that. The only problem is, there are about 100 'Idea's For A_Morton' levels due to the heavy response from my level 'What You Think LBP Need's'. I'v learnt my lesson...never doing that type of thing again; too much work...

Anyway, kudos if you read all of that i know i wouldn't.

Haha, sorry if my post was too long.

1. Would emitter shrinking work without distorting the music? You know, put it in the emitter, shrink it, save it, then put the shrunken object into an emitter again and shrink it again.

2. Yeah, check it out. It's a cool level.

3. Lol, WTF? Weird coincidence. Well, just typing Reef1978-2 should let you find it easily. Let me know when you do so I can take it down, but no hurry. I don't need the space right now. If it weren't for that glitch you could use the music that's on there right now. I don't understand why it's doing that, but if you understand how to use that music player then you can just rip it from the level and use it for your own music. There's a tiny part of a level I started to make but it's easy to delete.

Just a quick little update;

The shop is now on page one, check it out!

Also comishguy67, famous for the Michael Jackson tributes, has made some songs of his own to be included in the shop. Should be up tonight!

I really have to hand it to you Morton, but your looping chiptunes were fantastic

Loved almost every one, especially the more "edgy" ones...

I'm sure you could make a single long song, but that's not what the purpose of your level is

They're great! You've put some great work into this and I think it's brilliant. A few of the jingles feel a bit short but there are some great ones in there that I had to collect. My favourite would either be "Mr Mole" or "Ships".

Also much thanks for the tutorial and 16 note object. I made a short, intense jingle with it that'll appear in my upcoming level. I'll be sure to give you credit too.

They're your own compositions? I'll try give it a shot soon. We're thinking of bring the Music Level Contest back from the dead so I'll give you a shout if that happens 2009-08-04 01:44:00

Hey, I just got around to playing this today and thought it was brilliantly done. I just wanted to pop in and add a suggestion:

When you want the song to end, there is a much easier method than killing the music player with a brain. Just make the block that the key is on with dissolve. Then set the one shot switch to destroy the dissolve. No key = no more music. I only suggest this because most people don't like the random 50 points showing up.

Have a good night!

I played this a few days ago... some of the songs are fantastic and they all loop perfectly. I'm amazed at how developed they sound with so few layers and measures... good ear for it, obviously. Glad you really took the time to give the level a polished look to sell it with too.2009-08-07 07:10:00
