Problem...glitched decoration

Archive: 18 posts

I've got a bit of a problem! On my new level I've got a decoration and it's like faded out and floating. I have no idea how to get rid of it. The sticker edit tool doesn't recognise it, and it won't select or delete any other way...

It's right in the middle of my level, there's no way I can just leave it there, and there's definitely no way I can move my level around so you don't see it

Only thing I can think of it capture it and copy the whole level to another moon.

Any other ideas?

Weird. How did it initially come to be? It might help to figure out how to get rid of it.

I assume it's just floating, not attached to anything? If so, I would fiddle with re-adding the material that it was initially attached to, to see if it reattaches itself.

If it's not floating, then just deleting the material it was attached to should make it disappear.

Nah it's not attached to anything. I have no idea, the only thing I can think of is that it is placed above some emitting fire blocks, so maybe I moved it and placed it on one of them as they flew up by accident...but surely it should be disappear with the block when that dissolves.

It's just floating and is like faded out.

Lol, I can see how that could happen. Try placing a piece of material in the position/plane that the fire block would've been in when the decoration was placed and see it if registers as being attached to that new piece. If not, then I don't have any other ideas.

Edit: can you mass-select decorations? Might be able to drag-select the object... I assume you've tried that already, but still.

I didn't really want to suggest what BSprague said below, but it's always an option.

Will it eventually float out of view? Or are you saying that it is simply floating in place? I would just try and capture your whole level or sections of it, and move it to a new level. I don't think there is really anything else you can do.

It's just floating in the same place. I've tried all the suggestions and nothing unfortunately.
Only option is to either cover it up (put a front cover on the front layer) but that will be tricky to make the level still look alright with it, or move it all to a new one

Annoying ffs

You don't necessarily have to move it to a new level, just move it* up or to the side far enough that the decoration can be covered inconspicuously (with a wall or other decoration).

*it = the whole level.

Sorry to hear a single decoration has caused so much heartache.

Oooh of course. How very simple, both in thinking of it, and execution haha. Thanks

That suggestion has made this not thread worthy, and made me feel very stupid at the same time haha.

Hopefully it's that simple for you. Most people's levels simply break when you move the entire level, even if you box select the entire level and move it around.2009-07-30 12:57:00

He meant there's no way to redesign the level, but he chose ambiguous words.2009-07-30 15:07:00

I ran into a similar dilemma where a piece of glitched material was just floating in the middle of a hallway on my level. There was no way to cover it up and I had to copy the sections to a new moon. I hope you have better luck!2009-07-30 15:51:00

It's quite a compact level so I was able to move shift it all upwards a little bit so you don't see it

All is good again!

Nice to see it turned out well for you. If one of my projects had a glitch like that I'd be panicking A LOT.2009-07-30 18:27:00

I had that exact same glitch, long time ago. Solved it the same way you did, moved the entire level. I think it happened while I was mass placing in one spot a single decoration (orange flower) and when I deleted all of them it was like it was burned into the level. It's still there to this day.2009-07-31 09:43:00

I had this ages ago with a mag switch in my 'Elevator Demo' level.

I made a control but realised afterwards I could make it simpler so made a new control and deleted the old one. However one mag key or switch ( can't remember which now, I'll have to take a look later ) stayed in the level. I put a magic mouth next to it to show it. It's just there in space not attached to anything. I tried loads of ways to get rid of it like pushing dark matter up to it or glueing something to it but couldn't. It's just like it's on a totally different layer to normal and can't be touched or selected.

The level is copyable so if anyone wants to have a go at removing it you're welcome.

Same thing happened to me a while back I tried moving my level around where you wouldn't see it, but something always broke when I tried moving it, so I had to end up moving it to another moon as well. Glad it was much easier for you to fix.2009-08-02 00:25:00

Just so no one else who looks here does the same thing, I think I know what TC did to get the decoration. In Create Mode, if you select a decoration and then quit to your POD before you place it there, it will still float and be ghostly like it was when your sticker and decoration tool was moving it about. So, don't do that.2009-08-02 00:35:00
