Fan building.

This is a thread dedicated to all fans around the world. You're a fan of a singer? Then this is dedicated to you. Fan of anything. Just comment in this thread. Besides, it is in the wrong section.

Just kidding. Now for the semi-seriouss stuff. I'm designing a ninja (who happens to be also french) that flies using japanese fans. It is supposed to be a boss for my incoming level ("Napoleon's garden", god, I love self-advertising) but I have like no Idea about how to make those fans look good. There are already some japanese fans on the story mode, but they're attached to some platforms, and even if I know how to solve that (turn everything that you don't want in the MM object into dissolve material, then make it dissolve connecting it to a switch) those fans still too thermo heavy.

I've noticed that some people, like Mrsupercomputer (in fact, he seems to be above the average of "normal people", just look at his levels) has managed to build really nice looking fans. For example, in his Zephyr valley, his windmill looks like if the cloth of the fans it's... well, real cloth. I have like NO IDEA about what material he did use to do that, or what stickers, or whatever.

So basically, after all this paragraphs (sorry for their lenght; I was feeling chatty) what I'm asking fror it's an adequate material to make nice looking fans. That's it, in fact.

Nice looking fans, anyone?

I think you should try to build a triangular section of the fan, then copy it one time and sticker it with a draker gradient.
Then fuse the two triangles...I don't know...I'm not a good creator...try someone else...I'm trying to climb the mirrors...

But I wasn't aking HOW TO build (altough the intention is appreciatted ) but WITH WHAT should I build them. What material it's used in Mrsupercomputer's level? Or what material used MM to build the cloth of their fans? Or aren't those made with any materials, and are they just a custom object?

Somebody answer me >.<

I remember thinking that he managed to use some fabric from the decoations menu when I first saw them but I don't think they are. They appear to be a regular material. I'm guessing either a cardboard or the light packing material stuff.... I'd need to go play it again to narrow that down for you though.

You could always pm mrsupercomputer and ask him. I don't think he's all hush hush about his work.

Isn't it just a wooden material (Japanese theme, the one with grey/brown wood on the outside, white paper-y looking on the inside)? And a patch or two from the decorations.

Edit: Ehm, no. Looking at the videos its something else.

My guess is cardboard stickered with a custom colored sticker. As long as the color is soft and cream-like, it should look like paper.2009-07-29 18:08:00

I would ask him, but it does really feel like asking a Celebrity or something, so I tried to avoid that. But if there's no other way :/

Curious how that was EXACTLY my thought process. Great minds think alike!

Custom colored sticker... I kind of doubt that, because I remember Mrsupercomputer's fans having some kind of texture. Besides, I've sticked some white stickers on cardboard and... pretty much looks like white stickered cardboard T,T
And as for the fans made by MM, I have no idea if you could remove their white color using the sticker tool. I can't try it, since I'm not near my PS3

I think mrsupercomputer used a wood for his fans but I know he used the masking tape sticker to give it that wave kinda look.2009-08-02 08:09:00

Celebrity!?! No way man! I'm just a LBP creator like yourself. Anytime you have a question, don't hesitate, because after playing your level, I know that I won't hesitate to ask you!

I've already pm'd Keldur about this, but for those interested, Shris is correct. I used a blue wood material and pasted the masking tape sticker over it for the cloth effect. None of the materials gave me the look I wanted, so I had to get a bit creative and thankfully, it turned out well.

MAN I love this forum! See how 99.9% of the people here are awesome 99.9% of the time!? Never feel like you are any less of a creator or active member than anyone else here Keldur. Everyone has to start somewhere.... even mrsupercomputer and the rest of the great cast of fools in this littleBIGworld.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go check out a certain fan made of blue wood and masking tape.
