The flamethrower effect

Archive: 9 posts

I've seen this in a couple levels, and thought I knew how to do it.. Turns out, I don't

Does anyone know how to basically just shoot "flames"? I know it involves something on fire, and being emitted.. but.. Yeah :|

Thanks,
Matt.

The flame is from the candle object. To get the flame:

1. Make a candle
2. Select it and make it fairly large
3. Select the flame
4. Press L3
5. Enjoy.

I would assume the flamethrower effect is just rapidly emitting this flame that is attached to a small piece of material.

I remember seeing this in a level, was by emitting red gas, some others emit objecs with the candle's flame with it.
Depends on your style actually.
There are too many ways to make a flamethrower effect, can you be a bit more specific?

The flamethrower in green's battlebugs 2 (currently in the spotlight is awesome), he's used a mixture of lighting and fire materials (not candle flame) that absolutely owns. I think I know how it's done but haven't actually tried yet

Play that level though, it rocks.

Exactly as he says. I have a small mobile flamethrower I made ages ago which uses this technique. I just set the emitter to pretty fast linear velocity so the flames travel whatever distance you want them to before floating away and make sure to limit the lifetime of them so they aren't floating around somewhere forever.

If you have trouble I can always send you the one I made so you can take a look. ( That offer is open to anyone and everyone by the way ).

I connected the flame to a small piece of cardboard - when its so small it goes all feather-like.2009-07-29 13:31:00
