Roll up, roll up... Some of the Tags in LBP are misused, misguided and pointless. So let's remove some, replace others and suggest some new ones. NEW: 'Challenging' - possibly more descriptive than 'Tricky' 'Engrossing' - for those levels that keep you interested all the way through Why have both Rubbish AND Lousy? Is it to satisfy both British and American players? Why not just have 'Awful', 'Terrible' or good 'ole 'Crap'. I still don't fully understand the 'Toys' tag, but maybe that's because I'm old. What d'ya reckon? | 2009-07-28 22:21:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Like I said earlier, I'd love to see just a straight out "bad" tag. Funny that I was just about to make a thread like this. | 2009-07-28 22:24:00 Author: crazymario Posts: 657 |
I'd love to see in there the tags "Disastrous" and "Catastrophic" Or even better: "Disastrophic" Ah, that would be like the best weapon ever against some levels on the cool page. | 2009-07-28 22:27:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
lololol i was just about to make this exact same thread anyway, i don't know what all the tags are but there should be an EPIC tag lol that would be cool, even though i think its already in there | 2009-07-28 22:36:00 Author: springs86 Posts: 785 |
agreed, some of the tags are a little... odd. i don't get toys much either. or hoists, except in the case of 7 days But i don't think tags are all that acurate, it seems to me a large amount of people just pick a tag, they don't actually try rating it acurately. (hence the wierd tags on levels) | 2009-07-28 22:38:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Are there tags for "dark" and "bright"? I can't remember right off, but there should be if there aren't already. Also, lame, cheerful, inspiring, glitch, single player | 2009-07-28 22:42:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I think it's the fact that there are so many repeats when scrolling through all the tags, I mean I was trying to find the tag "Fun" last night. It took me about a minute to find it, and I accidentally skipped it, and I went again for another 2 minutes, and never found it. So I just skipped the tagging. That's one of the biggest problems with tagging for me at least. | 2009-07-28 22:42:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

H4H, Trophy, broken, unfinished, awful, copy. Amazing, innovative, epic, colourful, story. Then change the system altogether so we can find what we want, when we want it. | 2009-07-28 23:05:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |
Those are good ones, Matt. I've noticed levels are starting to get grouped together pretty nicely based on similar commonalities in tags - pick a level from your hearted list, click on it, and take a look at the levels surrounding it. "Find more levels like this" actually works now for levels once they're about a month old. I'd like somthing like "Avoid at all costs!" I don't know if the below tags are in the game or not.... but I'll put them here anyway "Platformer" "Scenic" When I'm feeling tired, or back from work, i usally want to play a challanging Platformer but if I just woke up and waiting for my coffee to brew then I'd like a nice scenic level to start my day off | 2009-07-28 23:55:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |
Here' some I'd like to see: "Awesome" "Magnificent" "Odd" "Scary" "Frightening" "Insane" "Inappropriate" "Smelly" "Slap-Stick" "Interesting" and "Confusing". And perhaps a better way to find tags. I mean, have you ever been in that situation when you try to find a specific tag and it takes you, say, 10 minutes just to find 1 (and then accidentally skip over it?) Maybe a list of tags that you can scroll down (like the page that shows you the various tags that the level has been given) so that people won't have to hit the sqware button a gazillion times to find 1 tag. | 2009-07-29 00:08:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
Yeah the finding the tag system is really annoying. I beleive it's because the actural LBP interface in the main menus is so SMALL! If it wasn't so small they could probably put all the tags in one box or somthing. Or better yet, if you could just pick your favorite tags to be displayed might speed up the proccess. I mostly just use Rubbish, Brilliant, Beautiful and Puzzler. | 2009-07-29 00:20:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |

Please Stop Making Levels Ouch, that's just mean, lol. @snowyjoe: "platformer" is already in there. | 2009-07-29 00:58:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
h4h, trophy, rocket cheetah, plain, crazy-awesome, really really bad, OMG SO BAD, OMG SO GOOD, too good I think you mean "Legendary Beast" um... definitely the "copy" tag... i don't think "h4h" would stand up well, as anyone who h4hs your level might use it... i think it would be nice to have just some good/bad and variations (ie: great, terrible, etc) | 2009-07-29 03:18:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
It's a pity the Ratings system can't be incorporated into the Tag system, and let the ratings produce their own tags. But either system would be open to the usual abuse. What would be slightly better is if Tags were non-specific. Good, Brilliant, Rubbish are all okay because they're generic. But I don't think I've ever used Horizontal or Vertical | 2009-07-29 08:46:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |

some good taunts we've got here. But no "chuck norris punts a kitten into space everytime you play this level"? I REALLY don't want to play levels you dislike wex... they sound painful D: | 2009-07-29 11:17:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Can we have "spiffy" and "fantabulous". I'd also like to see "jizzworthy", but I don't think it's gonna get it to this game Seeing as levels with a lot of plays just get tagged as everything, some ambiguous ones: "oops-a-daisy", "shazam", "ouch" and "meh". | 2009-07-29 11:32:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Tags pertaining to things that could happen in the level would be nice: Paint-y Race Plasma Etc And then some general tags: Fantastic Terrible Polished Simple (Might already be one) | 2009-07-29 14:01:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

...and best of all it's perfectly in tune with the pre-exhisting senseless tags available to us; Tags pertaining to things that could happen in the level would be nice: Etc I've used toys for a level where the most memorable thing about it was the little do-dadds the creator gave out as prizes... I've used horizontal when there is no altimeter needed, it just a straight hall all the way right! You know the page where all the tags are available that a levels been hit with... Repeated tags are bigger and bolder... I'd rather use that as my tag board for a starting point... This way if you have an idea you can scroll down from popular to least... then if you have a unique or fresh opinion you can go thru our present H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. | 2009-07-29 14:25:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I think that MM put "cute" over "simple & user friendly", because navigate levels through planets is absolutely mental but cute, the same goes with tags and other things. | 2009-07-29 14:52:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

Add: "Why?", "Strange", and the ability for creators to tag their own levels with something like "Race" or "Platformer" or "Co-op" to describe their level Remove: "Bubbly", "Floaty", "Hoists", "Ramps" Just my thoughts on this . | 2009-07-30 03:30:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
I subscribe to "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". I'm really surprised that LBP contains the tag "Rubbish". Why even have a way, directly in the system, to call someone's creation garbage? It saddens me a bit when my 7-year-old publishes a level that is truly the best he can do, and immediately a bunch of people call it "Rubbish". Last week he published a new level under his (now separate) PSN, and got rubbish as a primary tag. He asked me what rubbish meant.... And when I originally released Starship Troopers, a creative decision I made (lots of vomit sounds) offended someone and they sat there and started the level over and over and over, choosing rubbish until it was the primary tag (I actually saw it go from not being in my tags at all to being the primary one in about 20 minutes). This prompted me to completely delete and rework the level after plays virtually stopped. Was my level REALLY rubbish, or was it just someone not liking my sound effects? | 2009-07-30 18:35:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
<sigh> Yes.. you have a valid point. I think lousy is in that same catagory of not sure why it is in there either. However to be honest, I have used both. Though it was not for any 7 year old that did his best. My heart goes out to those folks!! It is so great they are playing with the game in that respect. More along the lines of someone much older that spams levels and curses a blue streak whenever they get a chance type of creator level. | 2009-07-30 18:51:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I try to work out the age or ability of the creator and tag accordingly. I've got a few under-12s on my friends list, and when they proudly announce that they've made a new level, I'll always bear in mind how old they are and what they've tried to do. But while the negative tags are there, people will and do use/abuse them. | 2009-07-30 20:16:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |

Nice list... but what's Millefleur? | 2009-07-30 23:26:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Nice list... but what's Millefleur? It's a pattern of flowers, not really a good tag suggestion, I just thought it sounded cool, but I suppose it could be used for those flowery levels. | 2009-07-30 23:31:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
Disgraceful Haha something about that just made me burst out laughing. If they added that, I don`t think I`d ever use any other tag. | 2009-07-30 23:53:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |
'Hoists' always makes me laugh. I always use it when a level is anything but good. For those special moments.. Amazing Speechless Gob-smacked Outstanding | 2009-07-31 00:08:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
The only useful tags are the ones that describe the gameplay like music, race, platformer, artistic. The toys tag is almost useful since when it's used properly, you know that a level is filled with gadgets that are interesting, but not polished or "deep" enough to make whole levels around. There are a number of levels that show off gadgets, some of which are of questionable usefulness because they combine a high level of complexity with a short period of useful play time within the level. The rest of the tags are useless (in my opinion). Stars should exist for the purpose of whether or not you enjoyed the level, even if it was well done. Showing an average rating should probably not be done. I would rather the game show an estimated rating based on the average rating of people with rating patterns similar to you, so the people who vote everything one star can get a useless estimated rating of one star for everything and people who vote in a way that makes sense will get useful estimated ratings, which can be replaced with a real rating after the player has played that level and rated it. There should be a separate rating for challenge level, so that people who like extra challenge can look for those. | 2009-07-31 21:48:00 Author: Unknown User |
I think tags that are tell the theme could be useful maybe like "Sci-Fi", "Medieval", etc. Other useful tags could be "Original" and "Authentic". | 2009-08-01 16:35:00 Author: Dr_Vab Posts: 134 |
