Accents - British vs American
Archive: 44 posts
Hey all, I kinda wanted to make this thread because I heard a posh British accent yesterday on MGO and wondered which accent was really easy on the ear. I'm British (London acctually) and I dont have a posh accent, but when I went to Florida I think I ordered a hamburgur and like 7 people asked where I was from lol. personally I think both accents are great but I wanna see what you guys think.. | 2008-09-08 16:49:00 Author: rocketi05 Posts: 80 |
I live in colchester. About an hour away from london. When I went to Florida people kept saying that they loved my accent. I think that they just love our voices. :hero: | 2008-09-08 16:52:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Hm... I'm gonna go ahead and not comment about American accents... But I'm gonna say this: British people do not have an accent. People think of a British accent as posh but our accents' are just plain... and we're proud of it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif | 2008-09-08 17:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
british and american accents are ok. the irish accent is better then both of them though. | 2008-09-08 17:06:00 Author: Don Vhalt Posts: 2270 |
People always think cockney/posh accents for us. Mine is just plain. No distinction at all. | 2008-09-08 17:06:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Yup; I agree with moleynator. | 2008-09-08 17:10:00 Author: Unknown User |
LOL, umm well america is a mix of accents but yeah the british accent is cool and I think people from Australia have really cool accents also, I think some of the best. I find it cool to talk to someone from Australia, but that is just how I feel but of course if you are from Australia than you don't really think about it becasue that is just how you talk but it is cool. | 2008-09-08 17:10:00 Author: Darth_Spartan Posts: 813 |
My cousin has a really weak Australian accent although he has never been to Australia. Its weird. | 2008-09-08 17:12:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

You cannot have one accent represent an entire nation... For example... the American accent changes based off region...as it does in any country... Go to Minnesota, Boston, Atlanta, Texas, California... they sound nothing like each other... Unfortunately, even thou I was born in Italy...I have absoloutely no accent... I personally think the Brits, Irish, and Aussies have awesome accents... | 2008-09-08 17:26:00 Author: Noonian Posts: 523 |
Oh my God I'm a reaper O_O Does not make sense, but either way, i am charging you for the copyright of my name or including any part of it, meaning the letters t,h,e,a,r,m,d and p... and the spaces. -_- | 2008-09-08 17:29:00 Author: TheArmedReaper Posts: 1543 |
Then everyone in the world should be charged if it includes spaces =D And I was talking about ScytheOfGrim >_> | 2008-09-08 17:50:00 Author: Unknown User |

Welsh, Scottish, then tons in England. | 2008-09-08 18:09:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

what do you mean by real english? I think english is what you make it where ever you live i think he means how americans spell stuff different like colour | 2008-09-08 18:19:00 Author: Don Vhalt Posts: 2270 |
i think he means how americans spell stuff different like colour oh ye true, i like how american utilise the letter 'z' cos in british english as you can see with the word 'utilise' we use 's' instead, i mean common! 's' is used too much already give 's' a break, the only word 'z' is used for is 'zoo' that has nothing to do with accents but a well | 2008-09-08 18:27:00 Author: rocketi05 Posts: 80 |
xD And customise... In America it's "customize". It seems weird, but at least they use Z! Come on Britain, Z is feeling neglected! >_> | 2008-09-08 18:34:00 Author: Unknown User |
i just cant wait until LBP come out and i get my headset so when we are playing and talking (laughing) i have other accents to listen too rather than the everyday ones | 2008-09-08 18:44:00 Author: rocketi05 Posts: 80 |
You cannot have one accent represent an entire nation... I as going to say this. You got it totaly right...! though the parts when people say "I have no accent" is lies... everybody has an accent to somebody else, your just so used to it and hearing others like it that you think its normal. I do like the 'posh' english accent though, and I can speak in an Irish accent myself (used to live there). Also, America has some nice accents, I have a cousin in Cleveland (Ohio) and I love his accent. Equally, there in no worse accent then scouse. | 2008-09-08 19:07:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |

So annoying to hear. | 2008-09-08 19:13:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
scouse - what kinda of accent is this? I have never heard of that? Also I was saying Americans don't speak real english because we don't, it is a mix of different languages and there has been alot of slang added to it also. It is a type of english accent but not a true english accent. Nothing bad about that but the language is a hard language for people to understand and learn if you were not born in America because of all the added stuff to the language. | 2008-09-08 19:26:00 Author: Darth_Spartan Posts: 813 |
Scouse accent = Liverpool accent | 2008-09-08 20:18:00 Author: Unknown User |
British accents FTW. And so I came. | 2008-09-08 20:47:00 Author: zzzzac1 Posts: 14 |
And no-one says anything about the Welsh accent.... Well TBH, I don't seem to have a Welsh accent. Scottish is my fav accent. "Och Aye!" | 2008-09-08 20:50:00 Author: GuyWithNoEyes Posts: 1100 |
Some American people talk inside them selves, i have suggestion, SPEAK LOUDER!:kz: "let your voice be heard" I cant really understand the British accent, some words I'll be like wha | 2008-09-08 21:10:00 Author: Killa_5150 Posts: 227 |
I think a New Zealand accent is extremely sexy. Especially on that girl in Death Proof. Zoe Bell. Here she is... YouTube - Introducing Zoe Bell BTW I have no opinion on this. I'm a little bias. I'm a Virginian and I have no southern accent or anytihng like that. But of course nobody thinks they have an accent, it's normal for them. ALSO British accents are pretty cool. | 2008-09-08 21:22:00 Author: Unknown User |

As long as the British accent isn't heavy, I'm cool with it. If it gets all cockney on me, I've got some problems. Aussies have the best accent in the world. | 2008-09-09 01:10:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Yeah and americans don't even speak real english but we do have some odd accents in america, like texas accent is different I absolutely agree. I'm American, and in my opinion, we butchered the English language. Now it's just American. Also, I am not very good at telling British accents apart, but if you had two different accents talking at once, I could probably distinguish the two. I like the British accent, it sounds proper and distinguished. You guys enunciate your words; we tend to slur them together. | 2008-09-09 01:45:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
well America has several accents... New-England, Southern, Mid-west... kinda liek how england has scottish and whatnot... i would say that Midwest is the easiest... however from around the world... i would love to have an australian girl... austrailian is fun to listen to... | 2008-09-09 01:48:00 Author: 12454522412412 Posts: 779 |
And no-one says anything about the Welsh accent.... Well TBH, I don't seem to have a Welsh accent. Scottish is my fav accent. "Och Aye!" Where are you from in Wales? I don't have much of a welsh accent either. I live near Cardiff. | 2008-09-09 01:50:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I'm from New England, don't have an accent whatsoever, but i do have a speech impediment with a "r" in the middle of the word. Purple will be Puple, World will be Wold, like that. People like it though.:hero: | 2008-09-09 02:01:00 Author: LittleBigMan Posts: 326 |
