Marvellous partnership revealed at Comic-Con

Archive: 9 posts

This last weekend, a huge gathering of friendly like-minded nerd folk gathered in San Diego for Comic Con, an annual occurrence of all things geek chic, not just limited to comics, but video games too. Some Sony folk were there to show off the PSP version of the game, some of our favourite player created levels, and also to make a cool announcement…
One of the final presentations from Comic book super stars Marvel was all about the next generation of Marvel video games, and amongst some very cool sounding games, they announced a partnership between them, and us!
To show off the possibilities of this deal, some sexy looking costume concepts were shown: Wolverine, Captain America and Iron Man!
Here they are on screen at the Panel.

The final selection of characters coming your way is yet to be decided, but it’s fairly likely you’ll soon be gadding about with your adamantium claws on. Snickety Snick!

I think it's funny that CC posted something about these guys yesterday. He's ahead of MM, even.2009-07-27 16:25:00

It's even funnier that we have 3 threads about this now, with donkey-shows

I found it interesting that they said it was a 'partnership'. Also, it's cool that it seems they'll let us help choose which ones should be in it.

I guess this could be called an "Ultimate Alliance." 2009-07-27 18:31:00

Wow , if that's the biggest news I guess we don't have much to look forward to.

I'd rather have something for creators than even more costumes. How many times must we say that before they get the message.

To be honest I've also seen much better looking user created costumes of all those already. If they're the finished official versions then they look like crap and I won't be getting them unless they're bundled with new tools and other useful stuff.

Oh wow, someone's mad...

And you don't seem to realize costumes are a big part of the game too.
May not be for all players like you, but for many it is quite entertaining/ fun the making of costumes.

New materials aren't THAT needed, they're nice nand all, but with the materials we have + stickers which can change them to seem like other things i'm sure you have a great variety, and so far i haven't seen a level have a bad choice of materials because a certain material doesn't exist.
I'm plenty sure you don't even use most materials, yet you ask for more?

You're making things up now. Where in my post did you see me ask for materials? I said "tools and other stuff". You're right in that I don't use many of the existing materials but that's because (A) They're mostly weird and (B) the ridiculous thermo won't let you mix lots of different materials without going up like a rocket.

I'm talking about useful tools like ( in no particular order ) image import, sticker cutout, better backgrounds, much better cameras, better magic mouths, radius adjust option on speakers, jetpacks without the stupid smoke or at least an option to turn it off, to name just a few.

I don't think that's much to ask , after all the costume and sticker junkies have had more than there fair share up to now. They've had literally hundreds of them while creators have had very little in comparison.

If you're being honest you'd have to admit that without creators LBP would have died a death long ago. If the main story and costumes were the only thing LBP had to offer we wouldn't even be talking about it now. It would be sitting on a shelf gathering dust or would have been traded in months ago.

Creators are the life blood of this game and that's an undeniable fact. But unfortunately we always seem to come a poor second in MM's eyes to the aforementioned sticker and costume junkies.

Why do you think great creators ( naming no names ) are leaving LBP ? It's not because they suddenly stopped liking it. It's because we aren't getting the support we deserve. And don't say MM are working on great stuff for us. I've been hearing that for the last 9 months and I'm sick to death of all the stalling and bull****.

For instance 1 major selling point of this game for me before release was the statement that you could play levels online with 3 friends and no matter how far apart you were the camera would always follow you and pan out so that every player was in view.

Not only was that a blatant lie it's also one of the worst problems in the game. It's really annoying when you get 2 feet apart and the stupid camera counts you out. Even worse is that I've had the camera count me out and kill me when playing a level on my own !!! How crazy is that.

Don't you think that sort of problem should be a priority before more crappy stickers and costumes ?

Oh and highlightnotes you say
History Pack? Anyone?

Well that's exactly what I'm complaining about. The only pictures I've seen of that so far show 4 more costumes and some rubbish stickers. Now if you know better and there is more to it than that and maybe something useful for creators I'd ike to know exactly what ? It would be nice if in future MM told us everything that was in an upcoming pack rather than leave us to keep guessing and getting excited only to be disappointed all over again when it comes out and we see it wasn't worth waiting for.

Costumes are a big part of the game too. Many people enjoy them, that's a fact. Besides, we should keep an eye on the fact that many players of LBP are pretty young, and enjoy costumes rather than materials/tools. Well, and not that young people do also enjoy costumes.
And we also have to take in account that MM needs money, and if they release those many costumes it's in order to gain more, because I assume that the release of costumes it's what gets them more money. Money that goes destinated to pay salaries, salaries that get destinated to improve LBP in many ways. So Silverleon, has, indeed reason on that.

But by that I'm not meaning that Jwwphotos is wrong. He's just asking for balance, on wich I agree with him too. It's true that the littlebigshop it's disbalanced; it feels like if MM cares more about costumes than tools, or problem fixing. Yes, they should be giving us more tools and fix some things (as the camera that jwwphotos mentioned) but I don't think that they are doing THAT bad about it.

We, LBP fans, we're eager about improvements and new tools, but looking bad, it hasn't yet passed a year since LBP's release, and there have been major DLC and patches, and many things that have definetely improved LBP, and changed it. I remember seeing a thread about it just the other day. So, what I'm saying, is tha in one hand, you have MM being kind of slow when it comes to major patches and fixes, YES, but on the other hand, LBP fans have a distorted sense of time, since we play it everyday, or mostly everyday. For someone who doesn't have that much contact with LBP, maybe all those patches would feel like too much;as I said, just look at how the game has changed in less thn a year.

What I'm trying to pint out is that both of you have -in my honest opinion- reason. Yes, maybe there are too many costumes and we would be needing more patches, tools, materials too, et?. And yes, costumes are a way to enjoy the game to, and really important to some people, altough if LBPC players fall into the category of people who njoys more tools.

MM it's mostly business, since people get their salaries from it. So even if creators are a really important part of the community, but smaller in comparaision with players, they will tend to do what gets them more money; costumes. But, let's not forget that they work in the creating aspect of the game too, please.
