Lafarge's requestKeldur/Keldur
http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/APhoto_10-4.jpgPoor LaFarge! After many years of holding the title of "The Best French Ninja Ever" and also the castle that comes with it, a newcomer (Monet-San), another French ninja, came and stole everything he had by defeating him in a duel. After that, LaFarge-San and his troops, planned the way to recover LaFarge's belongings, but the plan epically failed due to lack of originality; Monet-San didn't fall for a giant wooden horse with troops inside. And neither for the wooden rabbit with Troops inside of it that came afterwards. So, LaFarge has come up with a whole new mind blowing new strategy; ask the first sackboy that passes by to help him. And that sackboy happens to be.... YOU!

Nothing makes me happier than fresh designs in a fun to play level and this level has both in abundance. It's a level that could be the direct sequel to MM's Islands story levels but with all new and very creative platforming and game play challenges. A quirky styled art direction sets the stage for an even quirkier storyline that will have you laughing at French ninjas as you help them retake their castle. Do not miss this gem - c'est magnifique! This level is truly bizarre and wonderful in equal measures. It features innovative obstacles and a cute storyline as well as a substantial challenge. Can`t wait from more from Keldur. I would trade all of my limited French I've had to learn to get through GCSE's for the power to make a level like this. French inspired, but something that wouldn't look out of place in Mm's own studio. Looking for inventive gameplay, pretty visuals and a genius story? Look no further than this fantastic effort from Keldur.Keldur has created something that matches, and at times far exceeds MM own offerings with a Japenese theme, when you consider its mostly French, you'll understand what a job he has really pulled off. Extremely inventive, with some excellent individual sections (the moving Dojo was a highlight for me) he has managed to pull off a level that oozes charm and is most certainly a challenge. I know you're all curious to see a French Ninja, so do yourself and your curiosity a favour and check it out. Manufactured Madnessmrsupercomputer/mrsupercomputer
http://www.brentsimmons.com/lbp/mm3.jpgRobots at a nearby foundry have started to malfunction and are becoming increasingly hostile. Make your way across the hazardous wasteland, enter the foundry and aid the other robots in their escape!

Mrsupercomputer is no stranger to the spotlight but this time he's really outdone himself! An industrial level complete with molten metal crucibles pouring out, welding bots sending sparks everywhere, conveyor belts gone mad and the coolest bus escape sequence ever in an LBP level. It's not all flashy though. Subtle details like the opening billboard and tiny buildings in the distance along with special attention to perfect sound effects bring this level to life. If your looking for great story, great visuals and above all great game play this level has it all. Mrsupercomputer is a machine at making fantastic levels.... I wonder?MrSuperComputer is my favourite creator so I made a mad dash for the PS3 when I found out he had a new one. And I loved it. Some brilliant design (as usual) and some great sequences like the bus section make this another showpiece level from a top creator.Have you missed this enthralling, beautiful adventure by Mrsupercomputer? Then stop wasting your time reading these comments! I can't more highly praise this level than everyone else has. Its fun, well designed and has a genius story - but what did you expect from a Mrsupercomputer level? I don't think anyone really needs a write up from me to explain why they need to play a mrsupercomputer level. So I won't bother. Its from one of the best creators around, and thats the only thing you need to know. If you did'nt know that, shame on you!!!! Just make sure you take note of the outstanding visuals, awesome new ideas (the molten lava buckets) and some simply unbeatable custom creations.Battle Bugs 2: The MutantsGreen/PlanktonPutte
http://pici.se/pictures/FgZibaZJN.jpgIn the Battle Bugs series the sackpeople are really small and are at war with the army ants who also have the support of all kinds of other bugs. The first mission was about finding out why the other bugs who previously didn't involve themselves in this war suddenly was joining forces with the ants. (feel free to play that one as well but I wan't feedback on mission 2) In this mission the sackpeople sets out to find and destory the ants mutation plant where they mutate bugs in to monstreous killing machines. There will be plenty of stealth and action in this mission taking place among flowers and mushrooms as you try not to get killed by the ants and their evil creations. Good Luck!

What do you get when you toss the movie A Bugs Life, Killzone, mutation causing chemicals and plenty of firearm action into the creative mind of Green?..... you get this really fun level! Seriously action packed with plenty of paintinator mayhem and explosions. Even the bees are packing heat! The scale of the landscape and bugs you meet will make you feel even smaller than usual which makes the challenge even more exciting. A fun level that mini boss and boss level players will love. Lock and load it up!
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the garden! Don`t let the cute exterior fool you, this isn`t a level that could keep the kids entertained for 5 minutes. Unless you want them to have Vietnam style flashbacks that is! Some of the best character work going and great set pieces make this a 5 star level. The original adventure of bugs, war and chemicals. It sounds crazy? Well wait until you've played it. Some of the most charming enemy design combined with great stealth sections means this level requires both skills and patience. Ancient Burning CityArt_of_Tyler/Art_of_Tyler
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h121/HomeyHT/APhoto_2.jpgAnother normal day as a Gladiator, untill a Titan, his army of Giants, and there creatures attack the city! Escape through part of the city, and watch out for the invading army! This is an Ancient Rome/Greek Mythology themed level.

The Gods must be angry and they've decided to take it out on poor sackboy as he makes his way through this mythological masterpiece. Fantastic greek columns and buildings with intricate details show up in crisp white against some of the prettiest blue tones I've seen on an LBP level. Great beasts and monsters are rendered well and the three headed dragon is a personal favorite of mine. It's not all eye candy in this level though. Great platforming using varied skills are everywhere and will keep even the best busy on their controllers. Do not miss this level from a creator that has a heck of a streak going for quality and fun in his levels!
Art_of_tyler is steadily making his way up my list of favourite creators. His take here on ancient Greek mythology is fantastic. As well as excellent character design, he`s almost created his own new material through excellent sticker usage. Throw in some excellent platforming and you have an outstanding level, start to finish. It's never easy to recreate an entire time period, and least of all when you're copying mythology! However Art_of_Tyler has once again shown us great character design and impressive platforming. This time though he's done something different and thrown in an excellent boss. What more could you want? Start off in a Colosseum, end in the lap of the gods, and while your on your magical journey, slay a few mythical beasts along the way. That about perfectly sums up this level from Art-Of-Tyler. When you add great visuals, some nice platforming and quite a few little mini-bosses you have a level that was a sure spotlight from the first 5 minutes I had the pleasure of playing it, by the time I'd reached the end I was blown away, and you will be to. Deja Boom!LuckyShot/LuckyShot
http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/APhoto_13-3.jpgAs you find yourself stuck in a time loop, discover the fight between good and evil in this epic story driven movie style saga. Discover the secret to the end of the world and how you are the only one who can stop it. The second part is unlocked at the end of the first level, and the second part is called Deja Boom (Part 2) and both can be played back to back right now! This is a two part saga, since it required about 190% of a thermometer. I have held off on publishing part 1 until the completion of part 2 since I think it would be way more fun to play them back to back like it was a movie. This is very story driven, with some epic boss fights. I spent 4 months, 300+ hours (had to make part 2 TWICE!) and broke up with my girlfriend about 4 times while working on this project. (Yes we got back together again, thanks for asking).http://vimeo.com/5669555

Building levels with great stories seems to be LuckyShot's gift. An ambitious level that begins and ends with a bang. Stuck in a time loop you need to make your way through the same day over and over, getting closer to the truth each time. You'd think the game play would be repetitious in this little tale but every time you wake up your in store for different challenges including a sentry bot showdown, a high speed chase down a tunnel, a battle for a wrecking ball and a climatic final battle with a nutty mastermind. Great lighting effects are icing on this already delicious level. You must play both to get the whole story but don't worry, you'll really want to after the first one.
It`s probably not the best idea to ask the kind folks of LBPC to name your level, as most likely they`ll all vote for the daftest one just to show you how silly you are. In the end it turns out that the name suits things just fine however. You find yourself caught in time with only your skills to get you back out. Excellent story and some fine FX throughout.I've never seen so many great bosses crammed into a single series since Boss Rush. But this time, all the bosses are from the same creator. But don't get me wrong - the bosses are only the tiniest part of these levels. Where they really excel is story-wise. Imagine a Harry Potter gripping plot, but shoved into LBP. It may not be about magic, but this level is magical. Enjoy it alone or with friends, but you'll always get that feeling that you've played it all before..... Its a great name for a level, and heading in with great expectations I was not disappointed. Its a level thats both well planned and perfectly implemented. From the groundhog day-like start, the to the thrilling middle and encapsulating end, its a treat through two parts. I loved every second of the story that twists and turns as you head out on a journey through nuclear blasts, rush hour traffic, FBI intervention, subways and cityscapes. Playing through both parts will be some of the most jaw-dropping and all round full experience you can possible have with your stuffing filled friend. OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! World 2: Desert Hill CaptainCowboyHat/CaptainCowboyHat
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj119/tumorzombie/APhoto_5.jpgContinue along on your journey to rescue the Princess. Navigate wicked spiked stones, an evil sun, and other nouns to which one might apply adjectives. For those who are interested, here is my second level in the OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! series.

The wacky king spouting hilarious lines about stones and princesses is back in chapter two of Captain CoyboyHat's level series. True to the series thus far, this level is based on the block but the platforming is just outstanding again. Spring yourself up but mind the spikes, and they are everywhere! Jump and perfect your timing to avoid killer suns and finally finish off with a boss that is similar to chapter ones brain riddled box but this time with new obstacles and challenge to work around to take him out. Great look and lighting to check out while trying to avoid plasma or spiky death. Classic platformer goodness for players not afraid of a challenge - bring it on!
Played out entirely on one layer, this platformer takes the original`s 'easy' tag and beats it half to death. Another lesson in how to do quality platforming from CaptainCowboyHatNintendo....I mean Captaincowboyhat is back with another platforming adventure inspired by Mario. Such a simple concpet that has seen mario through the years also allows captaincowboyhat to create masterful levels. The ironic humour is so true that it'll make you laugh every time you play. Another winner in the series, and now we await world 3! Nintendo... as Coxy says, and I tell you something, he's spot on with that description. This level could have been from the mind of Miyamoto San himself, and thats something I don't say lightly. Excellent platforming and visuals, the sun sections in particular are a blast to play, and although hard in places, its perfectly balanced and will keep you pushing on until the end, and the best thing about getting to the end of a level you don't want to end, the promise of more!!! Lost in Spacesecond--smile--/second--smile--
http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/APhoto_14-3.jpgI've just published my new level called Lost in Space. I've put a great deal of time in to this level and a lot of detial too. Apart from the intro it is a platformer through and through please give it a try and tell me what you honestly think.

From a cinematic crash landing onto an alien world through frozen caverns full of platforming fun, this level quietly does everything right. It's entertaining, has great material choices, even greater use of layers, a few surprises and an understated vibe that doesn't scream "I'm fun" - it just is. Solid MM style and moderate difficulty make this level fun for any skill level. A great level quietly adding it's own voice to the coolest levels of LBP.I love it when creators get that Mm look spot on and I admire creators who can use layers effectively in regards to aesthetics as well as function. A fantastic, subtle level that doesn`t shout from the rooftops, but rather just lets you find out for yourself.I played this level with NinjaMicWiz, and the pair of us were more than impressed by the intro, and then blown away by the sheer amount of effort and time so obviously poured into every nook and cranny of this outstanding level. I'd loved the little glass trim for detail on the foreground, I loved the use of the planes, I loved the platforming and mechanics, I loved the level as a whole, as you could probably guess by now, a must play!Mars Attacks II: Dropship DownGrantosUK/GruntosUK
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=540&pictureid=5033After the attack on the frigate HMS Lucifer, the Marines are on Mars and ready for battle. Sergeant Casper, separated from the platoon will have to undertake his own mission, rescue the crew of the downed dropship and its important cargo.

Another complex and entertaining level from GrantosUK! It's got his trademark crisscrossing/backtracking style of play with new and challenging puzzles to figure out. On top of the numerous ways to die in the environment there are aliens to defeat too. Great lighting and decorations a plenty to take in after an awesome opening sequence that I think Wexfordian himself would approve of (feel free to disagree with me Wex.) Good luck with the dog tag search - they're very well squirreled away in this level. General CCubbage needs your help so get moving and check out this awesome level!Grant, grant, grant. How many times are we going to write how great your levels are. Once again he's come up with the goods and created a beautiful level, with some of the best puzzles around. There's only so many times we can say this - but Grantos deserved his crown and all his levels are quality. Join the hunt for the dog tags and save General Ccubbage all in the same level! The master of backtracking is back with a vengeance on the hostile surface of Mars. Fight aliens...walk past a lift...find 3 out of 8 dogtags...walk past the lift again...find switches...walk past the lift...dodge electric stuff...go down the lift...love every second of it!Sky Pirate: Introduction Toinkz/Toinkz
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/thehivetyrant/APhoto_5.jpgBeing a Captain of your very own airship, its time to grab the wheel and search for Captain Sid in this swashbuckling air adventure! Featuring clouds to make your way through, palm trees, floating islands, a pirate bar, rickety scaffolding, and a pirate ship with sails and a feathered first mate. (1 Player Recommended)

Climb aboard a fantastic looking pirate ship and set sail above the water amongst the clouds in this high flying level from Toinkz. It's a brief but wonderful romp through lovely moonlit cloudscapes in search of Captain Sid that will have you feeling like a pirate in no time. A funny pirate bar is a nice oasis from all the jumping you'll need to do to make your way to the scoreboard. So grab a sword and throw on your pirate hat - you can't be a pirate without your hat.... it's a rule, and check out this beautiful level.Yarrrrrrr! Land ho! Nope, we're not in the sea with these pirates, we're up in the sky. A lovely idea is perfected with some of the best visuals in this spotlight. It's not one of the longest levels, but it's brilliant fun and is just an introduction to what we expect to be a great series.
The Artists WorldBlack-Toof/BlackToof
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v617/thehivetyrant/APhoto_8.jpgAs your thrown into a strange world The Artist needs your help. I've been spending a great many nights on this my newest level. I was trying to give it a different look overall. It's going to be a 3 part story arc.

A very different world awaits you if you take on this level. A painters world complete with illustrated landscape and some fresh challenges await you. Reflective crystals and springy trees must be tackled if your to progress. The artist looks like he's straight from the 60's and the villain is a real bad guy. Hopefully you'll survive the chase section done in the style of the skulldozer from the MM level. Very fun an unique level to play. This one's been plugged tonnes by Black-Toof in his blog and everywhere else. But for once the hype is worth it. He's got us all excited for a genius level. The artists world is actually that - a look inside an artists head. A seriously well built level with some lovely design and great visuals. One of my personal favourites because I really like the creator and am so glad that something good has come from him.
A gorgeous level with a unique look to it. A beautiful art style creates a wonderful world to play in. It also features a simply superb intro and absolutely fantastic animation of the characters. A joy to play. I rarely laugh hard at a level, but when the ufo collected the geezer hid behind the bushes and took off with him I was to literally pick up, I loved his little legs kicking, and when he was "regurgitated" later on, that was priceless. What this level manages combine are some sublime pastel shaded visuals, great little sections of humour and some wonderful playability. My spotlight crew freinds have summed the rest up perfectly and I can't really add anymore, so play it youself and have a blast.Vector 0.1miltonTPS/miltonTPS
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=799&d=1248264870A complex platformer for 1 player, this level is the result of a month of trial and error...hopefully the gameplay and puzzle factor blend well together, and its not too confusing. Its geared towards players who understand the mechanics, and who like to explore, rather than travel left to right... Collect all 8 glowing prize bubbles to get the key...(tried to cater to those who turn off prize collecting) Prizes can be a real bummer (unless theyre creative, or perhaps rare glitches) Anyway, hope you enjoy it...the rest of the series is underway w/more object-specific themes on each one!

Brains and beauty combine wonderfully in this abstract platforming level by miltonTPS. A lovely color palette of reds, burgundies, and every shade of silvery gray imaginable in circle in circle patterns are just lovely to stare at when trying to make your way through some very challenging obstacles. Best played one player as more than that can become even trickier. Bring your best skills when you check it out!Yet another art style has emerged for this spotlight, but this is perhaps the most different and unique style of them all. The platforming is stylish and fun as well as keeping its unique style. A great way to round of an excellent set of levels we've had this fortnight. You won't find a more visually striking, and unique look in LBP than MiltonTPS's level. It has a very clean look, with some excellent sticker work but don't let that lull you into false sense of security, although its beautiful, there are hazards at every turn. The platforming elements are extremely well designed, and will test your sackboy controlling skills to the max. A fantastic level, I can't wait for more and I'm sure you'll all agree once you play it.

Great picks, I just thought my level would make it because of how well it did (Over 60,000 plays, 8,000 hearts, and a 5 Star rating). Everyone who commented on my thread here also seemed to enjoy it. I guess not enough of the spotlight crew played it.

Good picks anyway though.

It's done more than the spotlight could ever do with that amount of plays and hearts. Wouldn't you rather it went to a level with an 8th of what you've achieved?

They were a great set of levels. Congrats to all the creators that made it.

You're right, I wasn't mad or anything, and these levels are all more than deserving so it doesn't bother me at all. I hope I didn't sound mad in my first post because I really didn't mean to.

There used to be but I don't think it's been updated in quite a while. If you go under my psn name and go through my hearted list you'll find them.... No guarantees on what else is hearted in there though.

Depending on how CC feels about it I might be able to make an alternate account on my PS3 and start keeping track of them too. Start with my PSN for now and I'll let everyone know if I set one up.

Great picks, as always. I've played all of these levels, and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. Vector 0.1 really stuck out to me though because of it's unique abstract style and innovative new platforming elements.2009-07-27 20:40:00

Wow guys, thanks for the kind words! And to Dr Vab, man you really don't need any advertisement! Lol, but everyone loves your level and I'm sure it's spotlight worthy - it is literally beyond lbpc's help, LOL - I would check IGN's picks or MM's picks for your level.

All the work I dumped into Deja Boom, from the 3 or 4 beta stages (Atomic bomb tech demo, super secret beta test, deja boom beta (F4F))... Yes those were all levels played and repeatedly improved on from LBPC - to the naming of the level, to the contest that was hopefully fun for everyone putting puzzle pieces together, This website is amazing and I owe it all to you guys. Thank you all so much, and I am so happy that the result has given a little something back to the community.

Now if I could just figure out how to make these levels more efficiently like Grantos! Pumping em out like crazy... how does he do it?

So are there any requirements to be considered for the spotlight?
do you have to be in the 'Cool Levels' post?

You only have to make an awesome level. Being in cool levels is already helpful, but if the spotlight crew sees an awesome level not getting enough plays, then they would spotlight it.

And of course, you'd need to be a member here.

Still, great spotlight I shall never join the ranks of hahahahahaha/sniped

Oh....

I'm in it!
I've been out for holidays and... well, I didn't remember tht there was a Spotlight going on! And my level it's in there!
I didn't see itcoming, because everybody was able to find like loads of glitches in my level, and I don't remember finding many on the other spotlighted levels.

Honestly, many thanks to the spotlight crew members, wich are the real heros in every spotlight. I'm always surprissed that the spotlights only get like 3/4 pages of comments, when they would deserve the longest thread for every spotlight, filled with thanks to the level selectors.

Besides, I'm happy to see that my level it's up there with many greater ones, specially with the one from Captaincowboy hat. He amazes me with every level, so it's honor for me to be up there with him!

I've been following the spotlight from wich I believe it was the 7 or 8th, so I'm more than pleased because of this one!
I wish that everybody who spends a good amount of effort and work ond her/his level would make it to the spotlight, because you feel so... remunerated? (sorry for the lack of vocabulary)

All in all, great set of levels! (including mine! *explodes of happiness*)
And my special thanks to Morgana, who was even kind enough to bet test it!

do you have to be in the 'Cool Levels' post?

The only requirement is that you are a member of LBPCentral.com and that there's a thread in the level showcase for your level. Other than that - no "official" requirements are applied.

We play as many of the levels in the showcase theads as we can every two weeks then pick the best of the best. Most of them will stand out in some way, be it fun to play, gorgeous to look at, innovative, polished and just way above the curve in terms of all or some of the above. Every level is really different and when we play them we all assess them on their own merits, separately of any ratings or play counts they may already have.

So anyone who publishes a level, makes a thread in the showcase and is a member here has a chance. Easy as that.

Curious how this has already been asked. Anyway, it's not like it bothers me ^,^

Snowyjoe, I reccomend you to browse Morgana25 hearted list. She has most of the spotlighted levels in there, along with other pearls. Ah, and, hum... some wird things too.

In all seriousness now: You want to find the spotlighted levels, head for Morgana25 hearted list. That's it.

Oh, and I reccomend you Lafarge's request from this spotlight. I haven't met the guy who created it, but he's gotta be a genius or something, honestly.

Maybe this has been answered, but who all has influence in choosing these levels? Are they really all only posted on this site? Do you ever include levels not posted on this site?2009-07-29 23:34:00

There is a few members in a "Spotlight Crew" that choose the levels, completely unbiased I'm certain of it.

They are only posted on this site, but a few levels are chosen to be sent off to MM for the MM Picks? I'm not too sure what it's called but a few of the very best are sent off to MM.

And no, all levels in the Spotlight have been posted on the site, the Spotlight Crew tries their hardest to play them all.

Hope I answered your questions!

The spotlight crew is made up of GratosUK, Matt_82, Coxy224, and myself. We play levels listed in the showcase section of the website and based on some general criteria and our impression of the levels, we choose the best of the best and feature them every two weeks in the Spotlight.

Only members of LBPCentral.com who have made threads for their levels are considered in the spotlight process as that's where we find the stuff we play. If you are a member but don't have a thread for your level - we don't know that it exists. So making threads for your levels is a critical first step if you want to be considered in the spotlight process.

Levels from people not registered on this site are usually posted in the Recommendation section of the site and those are posted by members here who recommend others play them. The spotlight crew as a group does not post level recommendations in that section but may as individuals recommend a level there.

Thanks Whaaaaale

Don't know if it's my imagination but the amount of great levels consistently being published is more than ever. There is (yet again) some amazing stuff here - thanks to all the creators (and the spotlight crew) for their time spent!2009-07-30 01:26:00

Now that's something I did completely ignore.

It happens, that since I becamse spotlighted, I check this thread like every 3 minutes, just for the pleasure of it (this is as true as sad) So I couldn't help it but to notice that there's like an AWESOME new title on it, at the very top of the large message of the spotlight.

Where does that come from? Looks terribly good!

You guys can thank Night Angel for that - it was sent to me in a PM and I loved it, so it'll be our official Community Spotlight banner from here on out.
