The entire Nobuo Eumatsu catalogue from the Final Fantasy series would be a good start... even that though, doesn't really fit with the game, or really feel like it would be multipurpose music. I could name hundreds of games with music I love, but none of it can be looped effectively, and almost all of it has a distinct style that's either too booming and orchestral, licensed, or too simple and distinct.

I'm sorry, this is not very related to the topic at hand, but the fact that you posted Super Mario Galaxy music made me want to share that something. The sound from SMG that plays when you click on the grab star to look at a galaxy is the greatest noise for a ringtone telling you that you have a text message or voice mail. I don't remember where I got it from, but I'll try to find it real quick... Edit: I guess that's not when the sounds plays, but it goes douna, douna, douna... God, I'm sorry, I'll try to find it, but I'm not having any luck.

Well I don't really want any other game music. If I had to choose 1 then maybe 'Crash Bandicoot' but I probably wouldn't use it unless I made a crash Bandicoot level. I'd rather use proper music from Queen , Bon Jovi , Eagles etc. and I'd have loved to be able to use 'Spaghetti Western' music for my 'Sheriff Sack' level. 'The Good,The Bad and The Ugly' music would have been awesome for that.

Super Mario Galaxy music would be cool, but I think it'd be hard to make an area which actually suits the theme of the song. I'd personnally would like to hear more songs like "Battle on the Ice" (maybe it's not called that, but it's the song in the Collector boss battle level) or some retro tunes would be cool.

But I think that we need some more epic music, so we don't get tired of hearing that orchestral thing that we have (I can't remember the name, but I think everyone does. The one that you get at the wilderness) For that, I would look up to the music of "Shadow of the Colossus" That soundtrack would perfectly fill the gap. And as many people has said, FF music would be great. Sometimes it sounds funny and amusing, or action-ish. Or dramatic. Or epical. If they have to import a soundtrack, god, let it be the FF one.
