Steelsack has been ravaging the Sackcast server and plans to turn his gaze to Littlebig Planet itself!

During our server move and ?re-setting up? Steelsack slipped in an image to our media library. LBI believes this is a clue that may lead to the final capture of Steelsack him/herself!

Grab some friends and make haste to catch this vile, villanious err villain! If you sign up to our forums then you can discuss with other gadders as news and any further clues will be released here and on the forum at:

sackcast.com/protect

This is a great challenge and you will have to ?SHARE? the burden.

I'd like to join, but I don't want the Sackboy plushie.
Mostly cause I'm not allowed to earn things internationally. D:

But if you think I can't join, then that's fine.

Yes that poster seems to be getting a lot of praise, 1 hour on photoshop does wonders for publicity .

We may also have an additional prize (no promises) but beyond that you will get no more info until we announce the start date.

Well one things for certain...

I'm not entering. I'll never win. If it's a level contest I'll easily get beaten. If its a contest about playing the game I'll get beaten without even trying. And if it's a character design contest then there's no point in me entering.

Well there goes MY youthful optimism out the window along with my dignity...

Ok well since you're so eager

We will be announcing the starting date in our next episode (Monday/Tuesday); we're set on a start date of phase 1 of the tourney in a week.

First we're setting up some stuff with LBI to help us run the competition so once the first phase gets off then everything should run smoothly with their help.

In the meantime check our site for updates and we will also be giving coverage of the tourney while it goes on.

EDIT: We will also be holding a vote in a few days as to which prize you want to assign to each part of the tourney.

Ahh, but you forgot. The competition is in 3 parts.

FIRST you have to bake a LBP pie! Then you eat it. Then you take a video of yourself throwing the leftovers in someone's face.

...oops, I wasn't supposed to spoil it yet! Darn!

the contest is at teh end of the sackcast don't worry, you can't start until the competition starts.

sounds like a lotta fun guys, you could always make a key room for the contest if you wanted to keep non sackcasters off the scoreboard. (like cophermc ended up doing for his brain chain contest)

Being the strategic media agents we are we placed the thing everyone wanted at the end to force you to listen xD
Go to sackcast.com/gadder and the details are there.

On your way you'll notice the graffiti on our background; trying to work out who did it but we're all thinking it's 'Steelsack' messing with our server and mocking us

FWIW - This is the only detail I found at that link...

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls and all Happy Gadders.
Sackcast is proud to present the Gadder?s Trial.
It will be a 3 part tourney; depending on how well you do in each section you will be given the chance to win a prize.
Current Segment: Play

I will have to re-listen as I don't recall what the detail was at the end, but I think honestly the last few minutes my attention was diverted by something called "dinner".

well if you scroll down just a smidgem you'll also find:
"
Current Segment: Play
????????????
The ?play? segment starts on the 3rd of August.
"

You will be told what level it is we're challenging you on. It will test all your playing skills, stealth, combat and platforming.

Someone of high standing has agreed to help us and so we guarantee it is a high quality level.

Phew, finally beat the level after a few tries. I was suprised to be first after beating it once.

Come on everyone, beat my score! I want competitions to be so close that it's decided by one bubble. That's the best part about competitions. I'm looking forward to having to beat someones score over and over hehe >.<

...sorry, I like competitions. Tension is fun. I don't care about winning really. Anyways goodluck everyone!

Ok quite a few things to say:

You enter by playing the level, simple as.

Steelsack is Leonardo's alias used to annoy people on sackcast but that should be sorted out now

If there are any bugs (there shouldn't be any really) then please tell us; I understand you can jump over the start gate to get a 1/2 a second advantage and I'll fix that when I can connect to lbp servers.

I will be playing it, but please don't include any score I might get in the competition, as I think it would be unfair.

Thanks, but Shermzor tweaked it and hacked it apart and put it back together again!

Especially tricky was this...

I think it's about room 11, with the 4-by-4 moving compartments. It was hard enough in the original, but Shermzor has done a great job of making it 'hyper' challenging!

I died a few times!

Good stuff, burnvictim, have another crack!

Well not every room has a hazard

I managed to ace it when I was going with NA (well up to the point where the level was broken) until he threw a bomb at me...

MrsSpookyBuz was a lifesaver though, I would've made a rubbish run of the mill survival game if I hadn't been given that lovely level to play with

I'm really amazed that you managed to edit it so skilfully.

In the later Hyper Cube levels, I planned and built each individual room seperately, and then joined them together in whatever order I thought was best. The first Hyper Cube was a different story altogether. In fact, I can't remember whether the background is all one piece! I think it is!

Silly woman - no wonder it took me twice as long as the others to build! Ah well, ya live and learn. And belated apologies to you, Shermzor, for giving you a right royal pain in the backside to work with

This is funny really as I hardly ever play levels. But last night I actually turned on LBP specifically to play MSB's Hyper Cube series, as I noticed her level showcase thread for her new level and realised I had never played any of her levels before and had always wanted to try out the hyper cube levels but never remembered to.

And I still haven't got around to listening to new new Sackcast yet as I've been sooo busy

And I came on earlier to see what the play bit of the sackcast comp is and low and behold, it's a reworking of hyper cube

SPOOKY

Just played the comp version and it is very frustrating lol
I have had a very long and stressful day at work and will have to try it tomorrow again as I keep dying lol

lol, very spooky!

And, young man, a suggestion for you - get yourself relaxed and chilled get a beer/coffee/brandy/pop and your favourite snacks. Then, boot up LBP and have a Hyper Cube Evening!

There, you'll have fun, I promise (and the series isn't as hard as that nasty Shermzor's version!).

Yes I nearly aced it again but died to a plasma ball on the penultimate room xD

Oh I can only imagine the suffering of those who want to win.

Also when I checked before the nets went down we had over 600 plays so hopefully those 600 or so plays also went over to hypercube/sphere

I know my play did

I almost think that some people have an advantage...those who played the hyper cube levels before, knew a bit more of what to expect (The spot light room, the "arrow ride" thing...)

I played MrsSB's hyper cube and figure out some stuff...

Also, I got to the arrow ride on the SackCast version, and when I launched I got caught in a crack and died I have'nt even been able to start the level again since...

Dang, I'm gonna have to give up now. It's already 3am and I can't even figure out how to beat my score now. I used as many tricks as I could think of to get a higher score. The bonus at the end doesn't always keep it's multiplier, but that shouldn't make that much of a difference. What did everyone do? I'm just curious to see what I missed.2009-08-08 11:28:00

Mistervista says 'Are you allowed to use other materials in your switches and can we use DLC stickers e.g. from the Burgerman pack? What about lethalising materials, can I use plazma in addition to the standard electric, flame and gas?'2009-08-10 17:46:00

The limitations are simply the materials. While this may seem like a meager limitation we will be looking out for how you use those materials.

Leathalising is fine as are MM objects (so long as they contain only the materials allowed) and sticker packs etc are fine.

If you try to disguise your materials as others to make the level look nice you may not get the result you wanted.

The point of me choosing those materials is because they are never used in plain sight and so I want people to realise how useful they are.

Also the limitations apply off scene aswell.

Yes I'm making a video today since people don't seem to realise how simple it is

The only sticker restriction is the photo tool used to grab textures off other materials, if you do that then the material limitations become rather pointless see

A techdemo ingame would be good for those who don't go on forums etc.

The material limitation doesn't apply to off screen switches does it ? I ask because I make all my custom switches e.g. permanent switches and the like out of glass because I've found they work best. If they're made of other materials they sometimes 'stick' and don't work properly. I'm sure a lot of other creators use glass in their switches too.2009-08-12 11:53:00

Applies to it all! Off screen and all.

Also for perm switches why do you need moving parts?

Dissolve on dark matter block, key on the dissolve and detector on the dark matter. Simples.

Well the block with the mag key on that drops down has to move to drop down the slot towards the mag switch when the dissolve disappears.

Nothing needs to move though, if you just have a square of dissolve and a square of dark matter and glue them together. Put your mag key on the dissolve and the mag sensor on the dark matter.

To trigger it the dissolve disappears and the mag switch is either activated or deactivated depending on whether you inverted it or not.

Thanks for that DRA , I'm glad you like it so far.

Forgive me Shermzor but I don't really understand logic switches or how to use them. That's why I make my own although I don't know what to call them and they're probably not as efficient as they could be.

The switch I am using has 8 pieces of dissolve in with a block above with a mag key on which drops down in range of the mag switch when all 8 pieces of dissolve disappear. I call it an 8-shot permanent switch but I don't know if that's right or not. Pardon my ignorance on such matters , I'm just not technically minded with that sort of stuff.

Anyway all is well because I changed the glass frame and block to cardboard and it still seems to work ok so unless I missed anything there are no disallowed materials anywhere.

Oh by the way I meant to ask about the teherless jetpack you want in the level. My level is set up as a race so is it ok to put the jetpack after the race finish gate and before the scoreboard so as players can't use it to cheat the race ?

Yes don't know what Leon is trying to do but meh.

I won't be making a lbp level advertising the comp seeing as I don't want to have masses of comments asking about switches etc all over again.

The competition doesn't seem to be generating many replies on lbw so chances of winning the sackboy seem to be high folks

I might give it a try (if I have some time)!

I understand the fact that we must just use the 3 basic materials
(without captured stickers to make them look like other materials),
but I was wondering :

Covering those material with colors or motifs stickers and decorations (so that we don't really recognize them anymore) ...
Is this a bad point?

Or is the first goal here to use those 3 materials as they are,
with their inital colors and texture (without stickers, decorations on...)
and make the all thing look good?

Use of lights is allowed?

Sorry if my questions seams stupid...
Thanks

I don't mind pasting with stickers so long as you don't try and make it look like another material.

I'm going to enter my tech demo if I can finish in time. Wonder how that will go. How is everyone else doing?

Edit: Pretty much done with the blueprints for it. Got the story and mechanics all finished. Just one thing I need to fix. All that's left is to build it. Don't know how long that will take since I don't have much experience in making things pretty or cinematic. It won't be very long either. If everything runs smoothly then I'm hoping the impression left will be strong enough. I really hope the not-very-funny-joke of a storyline doesn't ruin everything.

One more question please guys.

I'm about 75% done with my level now and just have to put a few more ideas in before I put the race finish gate, scoreboard and jetpack but just thought of one problem with the jetpack. i.e. I was going to place it in the level for anyone to pick up after the race finish gate but there is still a problem with that as players would then be able to fly back and pick up all the prize bubbles which were previously hard to reach.

Would it be possible for me to have the jetpack emitted at the start of the level with a sticker switch and make a custom sticker for it which I could then send to you ( whoever needs it ) ?

I'm not organizing the contest, but I'm sure you could put the jetpack behind a coded door and send the Sackcast team the code. You'd want to ask someone on the team for clarification first, but I'm sure that would work.

Yep I think I recommended it to someone already (think it was on our chatroom) if you want you can send a sticker activator to PSN: Sackcast so then your level won't be abused by others.

Also if you take an already made level and just turn it to cardboard you're only scoring in two of the 3 areas

You're lucky..!
I'll never be able to finish mine for the end of the week!
My theme/idea "grows" as I was working on and so now it includes too much stuff to do (scenery, characters, etc...)
And as i'm at work all day, it's dead for me....

I'll finish it as a regular level and take my time to make something good (in 1 month maybe )
and I think I'm gonna keep this idea of the 3 basic materials (using cardboard mainly...)

Good luck for the contest!

We're on a deadline for the competition; if I delay it too much then it'll get dragged on into the start of school and that will make running it nasty.

That's fine, I only ask because I had a great idea for a level for the contest while I was at work yesterday. I ended up filled 10 notebook pages with the entire script/level layout/boss fights/etc. I worked for 10 straight hours after I got home that day, and I'm working on it now, but there is no way that I'm going to get this all done by tomorrow morning. I just won't enter it in the contest, but rather than let those 10 pages go to waste, I'll work on it at a more leisurely pace. I probably wouldn't have been able to get it done by Sunday anyway, I really put a lot on my plate.

I've only finished the intro (which is skippable), but in my opinion it looks fantastic. Well, at least relative to my other work.

Ok. First off, during my last run of adding the jetpack, the finish line and a couple talking mouths a piston broke and made it impossible to finish. I fixed that and didn't touch anything else. That's what the last publish after time limit was. I'm fine if i get disqualified for it since I would've lost either way. Even if the boss isn't broken it's a really short level (suppose to have 3 more fights) and no decoration besides the enemy I made earlier.

Instructions. Grab the sack statues to start the fight. All party member must be grabbing them. Use stickers to make your move. If you got to fast then the attacks will overlap and not do as much damage. Watch the enemies HP if you have to. When healing use the number that designates each player. 1 will heal player 1 and 3 will heal player three. Poison tipped has a 30% chance of poisoning the enemy and fire has a chance of missing. The enemy has two attacks. One is normal and another is rare but takes away a huge chunk of health. That's pretty much it I think.

Edit: I forgot to remove the walls -_- Since I'm already fixing the level to keep it beateable I'm adding one more thing. An for LBPC. I dont have one at the moment so I'm making my own. Let's see if you can find it Sorry about breaking the rules so much. I'm actually curious to see what you are going to do about me. Hehe.

Oooh, sounds like a nail-biter.

Well, there's only one thing we can do. We'll have to JOIN THE SACKCAST on SUNDAY at 8.00pm BST.

The last one was brilliant fun, and I recommend them to anyone who can make it. It's a chance to listen to the Sackcast team with the latest news and views, there's competition results, there's fabulous piano playing during the interludes, there's quick-fire questions and a really great live text chat.

If you can make it, get involved - it's great fun!

Oh dear , I have to say that now i've looked at a few of the entries and the winners in particular I'm a bit miffed. I wouldn't have minded losing to arcticpolar's level because that was very artistic and original and really well made. I'm very disappointed with being beaten by the one you did pick though because hardly any work went into that whatsoever. It was an already existing level and the creator just changed all the materials and republished. You said in the rules that anyone doing that would be marked down for it. That goes against the whole ethos of the contest which was to 'CREATE' a new level with those 3 basic materials. Anyone and everyone could have simply changed an existing level.

It's very disappointing to see that sort of laziness and contempt for other creators being rewarded. What a shame the judges ruined what started out as a good contest.

We are very sorry you feel this way though after some discussion we are going to remove ' codibear8383's ' entry.

We apologise for the flaw in our judging and we hope that rectifying this will solve the issue. We admit that it was perhaps stupid to accept old levels.

New results:

1st - Mistervista Plasmaville
2nd - Articpolar Little Traveller; Temple of Demons --- avalanche valley by ultrafelix
3rd - Plasmavore The Card Quest: The Road Trip

We will be more careful in our judging in the future.

EDIT: avalanche valley by ultrafelix was missed out in the show as well somehow :S

Oh wow I wasn't expecting that. Thanks for that guys. It's nice to know that I was right about something for a change LOL and that you do actually listen to our gripes seriously and take action when you feel it's warranted.

I didn't want it to appear as sour grapes because obviously I could be seen as biased as I was 2nd originally but I would have said the same thing even if I hadn't entered at all.

Thanks again guys.

No it definitely isn't sour grapes; we are changing the results because we believe that our judging was unfair.

We don't want people to think they can whine and just win that way, this change in winners was due to a loophole in the contest rules.

I hadn't realised the situation, but now I am aware of it I am personally extremely pleased with the outcome.
Congratulations mrvista, Articpolar and Plasmavore.

How many entries were there?2009-08-27 01:22:00

There were about 15 or 16 entries.

Also, we made ANOTHER mistake with the results - don't worry, this time it doesn't affect the standings - so here's the updated and FINAL results:

1st place: Mistervista Plasmaville
2nd place: arcticpolar's Little Traveller; Temple of Demons tied with ultrafelix's Avalanche Valley
3rd place: Plasmavore's Card Quest I: The Road Trip
Honourable Mention: pennydog's Ice Cream Delivery Sack and codibear8383's Citrus Splash

I also just want to say that a) Although we bumped Citrus Splash down, it is still a great level and should be checked out - the reason it was bumped was because it was an already existing level with the materials simply changed to cardboard/dissolve and b) I appreciate codibear's understanding (after telling her the mistake on PSN). It's nice to see good sportsmanship even in a competition like this.

Anyways, on to share! Check out the details on www.sackcast.com if you haven't already

It is a contest mkay

You will know when you find 'it' trust me.

The first clue is being over-analysed at the moment so don't worry about the whole 'guy living in Rome' thing people are saying just think of the provenance and the medium it is presented in.

lol Kernel!

I'll give you two clues.

1. SteelSack isn't me, unless it IS me but I don't know it.
2. SteelSack isn't you, unless you are the best deceiver ever!

As far as I know, this character has been messing about with Sackcast's server and causing a bit of mischief. I might be wrong, but this competition is to identify this person/thing. Maybe Sackcast can't give any more clues, because they're as mystified as everyone else, and they haven't GOT any more clues.

Who knows?

Well it seems as if people are making progress on this case. Work is slow but we are on the way to finding Steelsack.

People seem to be hiding their secrets and the steps they have found from each other but they're realising they can't solve it on their own

My guesses were it had to do with a house. I was confused when they mentioned building a house on one of the episodes.

Well, my work here is done. You probably never guessed, but I was Steelsack. I knew that LBI couldn't be trusted! At least I managed to get rid of that annoying LBI and his Robotsack, even though I had to crash Sackcast and strip Shermzor of his admin status to do it.

The LittleBigPlanet is safe once more. Now that it's all over, I should probably hand myself in to the LBPD, eh?

Yes ConfusedCartman is indeed Steelsack, it all makes sense now. He has access to our dropbox where we keep the passwords for dummy accounts on our wordpress, that way he could edit and add posts.

I am shocked and as much as I don't want the LBPD to take him away our server provider doesn't take kindly to abuse of their servers

I'll be awaiting your statement tomorrow

From LBP News:

?In a stunning twist the hacker called Steelsack (True identity of ConfusedCartman) has been cleared of all charges. When he presented his case of why he brought down the LBI it was found that the LBI themselves were the criminals.

CC provided evidence showing the LBI planned to take over Sackcast by using Robotsack to copy other peoples levels to create a team of ?amazing? creators so fans would flock to sackcast to talk to them.

They would then use their hidden login page to create a new sub forum and in time when it would grow in popularity sackcast would have to make the sub forum their main. Slowly the LBI would take control of sackcast and even make their own podcast!

On the charges of CC crashing sackcast and removing admin status of one ?Shermzor? CC was cleared for that aswell. It seems that the crashes and loss of administation was due to Shermzor messing about with some tick boxes ?under the hood?. Shermzor has been charged ?20 in penalty fees for his actions.

CC is now seen as a hero by sackcast for stopping the LBI and representitive Dan said that they would be removing all LBI content from their site.

CC also mentioned that Zac should win the crown for finding his identity after going through the clues he left.?
